Google has a new, expanded list of papers and projects written by their workers online. The repository is growing quite large and for obvious reasons, Google isn't showing nearly all of them. Their ability to continue to recruit the world's best and brightest may be diminishing, however.

There is certainly a perceived negativity in web communities far beyond SEO about Google. That kind of sentiment will almost certainly keep some great minds from joining the 'plex. My advice would be to apply at AskJeeves - they're ready for some true innovation.
