Will bringing news from other sources to my site damage my website
-
hi my website is www.in2town.co.uk which is a lifestyle magazine and for some time now i have been thinking about bringing in news from other sources but i want to know how this will affect my site.
I have read that by bringing in articles from other sources which will be sources like bbc news, that it can increase visitors but i would like some advice.
What i do not want is for the sites to take away my link juice and for me to drop down the rankings. I also would like people to read the news and hopefully come back to my site.
any advice on this would be great.

what i was looking at, was for our readers to be able to read local news while on our site, i think i will give it a miss then.

Noah's Dad has a valuable addition here Diane: "talk about why people should go check out the full article" and adding unique and valuable information to the article. Just two sentences and nothing else really isn't going to cut it or make it a destination place for your readers.
-
The site LIfehacker.com does this all the time. They will quote 2-3 sentences from the article, talk about why people should go check out the full article, and than link to it. I don't see anything wrong with that, especially if what you say about the article is unique and valuable.
-
what i was thinking was, listing the title and the first two sentences but not sure if this would damage my ranking

There are at least two problems with this....
-
Most news articles are owned by someone and copyright. You can't republish them without permission and most likely will have to pay a really steep fee.
-
If you republish those articles they will be duplicate content that appears on other sites that are probably a lot more powerful than yours. As a result they would be filtered from search and you would likely have panda problems.

Redirect from old wordpress site to new php site? Best approach
Hi I have two websites one legacy site done in wordpress the other in php. However I would like to merge the two together and remove the wordpress site. However it has a good link profile and the pages rank well. What is the best approach to do a 301 redirect from the old site with all its pages pointing to the homepage of the new site? If so what's the best way to do this in wordpress? Many thanks

How much of an issue is it if a site is somehow connected to a site that was penalized by Google?
I am working with someone that is about to launch a new site, and one of the sites was affected by the Panda update. Does it matter if the two sites are connected? Share the same hosting provider and same Google Webmaster's account?

Why does my site have a PageRank of 0?
My site (www.onemedical.com) has a PageRank of 0, and I can't figure out why. We did a major site update about a year ago, and moved the site from .md to .com about 9 months ago. We are crawled by Google and rank on the first page for many of our top keywords. We have a MozRank of 4.59. I figured this is something that would just take time to work out of the system, but nothing seems to change while we patiently wait. One more thing to note - when a user comes to the homepage (city selector) and selects their region they will then be cookied and directed to their relevant city site on subsequent visits. But even our city-specific pages (ie www.onemedical.com/sf) have pageranks of 0. My management team keeps asking me about this and I suspect there is something silly that we keep overlooking...but for the life of me, can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Will using https across our entire site hurt our external backlinks?
Our site is secured throughout, so it loads sitewide as https. It is canonicalized properly - any attempt to load an existing page as http will force to https. My concern is with backlinks. We've put a lot of effort into social media, so we're getting some nice blog linkage. The problem is that the links are generally to http rather than https (understandable, since that's the default for most web users). The site still loads with no problem, but my concern is that since a redirect doesn't transfer all the link juice across, we're leaking some perfectly good link credit. From the standpoint of backlinkage, are we harming ourselves by making the whole site secure by default? The site presently isn't very big, but I'm looking at adding hundreds of new pages to the site, so if we're going to make the change, now is the time to do so. Let me know what you think!
