Google and low quality guest posts
-
In the aftermath of the Penguin and Panda monsters a lot of blog networks seem to have been devalued by Google. It seems logical that spammers will flock to low quality guest posting next. How do you think Google will determine which guest post links to devalue?
Thanks!

I say flocking to low-quality guest blogging is a bad solution to Penguin update. Penguin was not primarily about banning blog networks. It was about banning over-optimized links and link schemes. So Google will use the same tactics here: too much anchor text, too easy to identify!

I don't know how Google will do this - or if they will.... but if I was the boss at Google, each crappy post on the blog would increase the odor of the entire domain... and anchor text links would have their juice cut by 90%.

"The ones with crappy content that have keyword anchor text links pointing to other domains."
Would you say it's safe to assume that both of these would have to be implemented for it to be devalued? The anchor text AND the crap? I mean, keyword anchor text pointing to other domains is a good practice used by many valuable blogs--it helps your blog posts be more informative.

The ones with crappy content that have keyword anchor text links pointing to other domains.... and the domains that they point to have lots of other crappy content on lots of other crappy blogs that have keyword anchor text content.

How To Encourage Google To Discover Links?
I got a valuable backlink from a high authority website (MSN), but the link is placed in the middle of a slideshow with 20 pictures, and the only way to reach it is by clicking through the slideshow. After 6 months, this link still hasn't been noticed by Moz or Semrush, and I assume Google hasn't seen it either, because it's in the middle of a slideshow. Is there any way to encourage Google to find this link? Or am I all out of luck?

Bit.ly Links & Google
Does Google treat bit.ly links differently? If someone linked to my site through bit.ly, would Google see that link as if they had used the normal (exmaple.com/blogpost/) link?

Benefit of Guest Blogging with weak relevancy
No - not that awful kind of guest blogging Matt Cutts called time on - but legitimate blogging on quality websites. Just thought I'd get that out of the way first 😉 I work for a legal services provider as a Content Marketing and PR Executive, and I have a regular spot guest posting on Search Engine People which I acquired in my previous role at an SEO agency. As I'm still working in the industry (in-house rather than for an agency) I thought I'd carry it on, not only because it's good for me personally, but because it'd also be a nice link building quick win from a good site with a strong DA. My question is, with next to know relevancy between domain-domain, page-domain, page-page, is there much value in the link? To be clear, I'll be doing it anyway, but the answer might inform whether I do it under the guise of an employee of my company or just as myself. Thanks all!

How do i replace bad hits on Google?
When people search for our brand name on Google, the 4th and 5th hits are threads from open forum. The discussions can hurt our image very much and we have to do something to replace it. I need some tips for how i can replace the community and push it down the list.

Got Google Warning But No Penalty - Should I Ask for Reconsideration?
I got the following warning from Google yesterday: "Google Webmaster Tools notice of detected unnatural links to [...] We encourage you to make changes to your site so that it meets our quality guidelines. Once you've made these changes, please submit your site for reconsideration in Google's search results. " But my website didn't lose any traffic or ranking so far. Anyway, I'm currently cleaning up my link profile. My question is, since the website didn't seem to have a penalty, should I still submit the website for reconsideration once the clean up is done? If I clean up my link profile, would that warning just go away? Should I avoid a manual review of my website? Thanks for your help.

Is it worth it to link to sites that link to you in guest posts?
Suppose you published a guest post on a quality site and you link to a previous guest post you have written for another site (which links to you). In theory you could send link juice to the page that links to you for a second order effect. Has anyone seen results from this tactic?

Low PA high DA
I've been reviewing the PA and DA of news releases on PRWeb.com. While PRWeb has a very high DA=96, the vast majority of news releases have a PA=1, even those that are several months or several years old. 1. What is the affect of a follow back link with PA=1 and DA=96? 2. Although the vast majority of news releases have a PA=1, there are a few with a PA=40 plus. Further analysis revealed that these pages had one or two back links from other root domains. So, it appears that it is possible to boost the PA of your news release by linking to it from another root domain. Would it be advisable to link to your own news release from other root domains so as to boost the PA, and thus have back links to your site with a good PA and excellent DA? Best,
