SEO problem if homepage is 2 folders deep?
-
We are currently looking at a site for a client, where instead of featuring standard file structure, every folder is being buried two folders deep by the CMS.
So the homepage is:
www.domain.com.au/folder/folder
And a subpage is:
www.domain.com.au/folder/folder/subpage
Is this necessarily and SEO problem? Will it be positive for rankings to pull out the two redundant folders?
Any insights are appreciated!
Cheers

I should point out that directory "level" in the URL is not the same as how deep a page is. If a page one-off the home-page is 4 directory levels deep, the crawlers still see it as one layer down, because that's how they reached it. I agree that this structure is far less than ideal, but I don't think it would automatically harm your internal PR flow.

It's not great. I find Google to be very stubborn about wanting to use the root level, and putting it 2 levels deep could cause some general crawl and canonicalization issues. Plus, Google may go looking for a folder or pages at the first level.
You're also adding duplicate keywords to every URL and pushing down the unique keywords. Even though keywords in the URL are a relatively weak ranking factor, it certainly isn't going to help you.
The risks may be small to moderate, but there's no up-side that I can see. Is this primarily a technical issue?

Hi Marketing Results, As we know that Search Engines measure the importance of a page's subject matter in part, by its proximity to the Homepage. Oftentimes content kept in directories that are more than 3 directories deep are considered of low value and will have difficulty ranking well for their topic.
From the SEO point of view it makes an impact . To see how it creates an impact please refer to this link:

Technical SEO - Where to begin?
Hi all, I'm looking to learn more about technical SEO. My background was digital marketing/PR where I learned the importance of links, of anchor text, of page speed, of improving UX signals, of SSL, utilising things like Google My Business etc. However, I find I am chasing my tail when it comes to things like understanding JS/CSS/log file analysis etc. I've tried reading so many articles on the subjects and I just find it so damn confusing. AnugalarJS/BackboneJS. Fetching & rendering, URL parameters...etc. I know from my own experiments that JS pages struggle to rank and I've created two very similar pages, one without JS, one with JS (which had far more links) and the non-JS page ranked far higher. So, I suppose I'm asking for some help with how to begin learning this stuff. I find the articles on Moz, Search Engine Land etc to be a bit confusing...maybe I'm not technically minded enough! Cheers, Rhys

Ajax, SEO and Angular
Hi all! We have a platform which includes a housing area which is created by ajax and angular. You can see a sample here:
Technical SEO | | Eurasmus.com
eurasmus.com/en/erasmus-antwerp/student-room-accommodation It has a static version under which shows the first 18 rooms, the rest are generated by angular.
Also this static version has a dynamic text with around 400 characters. Is this the right procedure?
How would you suggest to do it?0 -
Homepage no longer indexed in Google
Have been working on a site and the hompage has recently vanished from Google. I submit the site to Google webmaster tools a couple of days ago and checked today and the homepage has vanished. There are no no follow tags, and no robots.txt stopping the page from being crawled. It's a bit of a worry, the site is http://www.beyondthedeal.com

Hello Folks, I'm curious why my landing page is ranking at #1 on www.google.com.br ( brazil ). keyword: build wizard diablo 3. My lp is above well know domain names such as: wikia.com , blizzard.com , and also above a keyworded domain name: www.wizardbuilds.com/ Is just because my website is focus in brazilian google( .com.br ) or is because my landing page are better than the others( i don't think so)?
