How much % of directories are punished?
-
Hi
I was checking a site and I found lots of directory listings. 70% of the directories are punished in the list which I created (pagerank 0). Except from the directories which are listed here in seomoz, how much % of the others outside are punished?
Also I noticed that this punished directories with pagerank 0 have most of them authority 30-40 according to the seomoz tool bar.
I should bother to put a link or not?
Why I see this difference?
Thanks

You are looking at two different measures. One is PR which is a Google product and the other is domain authority/page authority which was developed by SEOmoz. As such, they are not comparable. Just because google chooses to "punish" a site/directory does not mean that it impacts the way in which moz looks at it.
I hope this assists,

Thank Robert for your time to give me an answer. You have absolutely right. But you can tell me also the difference on the seomoz toolbar? Why is still showing me high authority for this punished directories? Or judge them in other way? Thanks

For me, when it comes to directories, I am very careful not to overdo directories for links (very few period) and with what you are describing, I would not place a link from punished directories. The reasons are obvious. Think of it this way:
If I know you and see you with someone who many say is "not a good person," I may ignore them because I see nothing wrong with you. But, if I then see you with a second or third or fourth person described as not good, I begin to draw a conclusion. I think the links to "not good directories" works the same way in the eyes of search engines.
Good Luck,

Ecommerce replatforming and redirects - how much traffic will I lose?
Hey there,I'm looking to hear your experiences in regards to replatforming an ecommerce store and SEO impacts. My company is analyzing the impacts of switching from Magento Entreprise to Shopify Plus. Some background info : 900k sessions / month 52% of sessions coming from SEO Multilingual store : half of traffic is French, half is English 945 domains linking to us, according to search console Competitive industry (retail) Moving to Shopify would force us to do two things: Redirect all category pages, brand pages and product pages. Shopify forces a specific URL structure for these pages that is different from our current one. Redirect the English section of the site to a subdomain (https://en.example.com/...). Have multiple stores on Shopify can't be done on the same domain. I'm especially afraid of the impact of moving the English section to a subdomain. I feel it would lose most of the domain authority - most backlinks go to the website root so very few will be redirected to the subdomain.Even if we spend a lot of time doing redirections, do you think the traffic will significantly suffer? Do you have stats to share on a similar migration you would have done, or other insights? Thanks a lot!

How much does URLs with CAPS and URLs with non-CAPS existing on an IIS site matter nowadays?
I work on a couple ecommerce sites that are on IIS. Both sites have return a 200 header status for the CAPS and non CAPS version of the URLs. While I suppose it would be ok if the canonicals pointed to the same version of the page, in some cases it doesn't (ie; /Home-Office canonicalizes to itself and /home-office canonicalizes to itself). I came across this article (http://www.searchdiscovery.com/blog/case-sensitive-urls-and-seo-case-matters/) that is a few years old and I'm wondering how much of an issue it is and how I would determine if it is/isn't?

Is Building a Local Directory of Businesses on a Subdomain Good SEO?
Hello Fellow Moz'ers: I own a small digital shop in a major US city. We had a marketing idea which I'd like some input on the soundness of. We are creating a professional services directory of 'digital professional services providers' in our hometown. The directory's membership will only be open to firms located within our city limits. The directory will be curated and maintained, ongoing, by us. Our motivation is 75% selfish and 25% benevolent. The idea is that, by building the directory on our subdomain, we hopefully will collect links, which ultimately will enhance search visibility. But I'm concerned about the devaluation directories have incurred in recent years and I've even seen advice given to the effect that listings in some directories might be harmful to a site's link profile. It is not our intention to harm those who might list in our directory. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Sub-domain and Sub-directory - Is there no difference
Hi, Last year Google announced that it will treat links from a sub-domain as internal links and not external - http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.in/2011/08/reorganizing-internal-vs-external.html. Does it means that now there is no difference between a sub-domain and a sub-directory and anyone of them can be used? Regards

How much is too much content for a home-page?
Hey guys, I'm looking to implement a strategy where I put a 20,000 word article on my home-page. It won't be a super-long page, this content will be divided into nested tabs. The content will also be found on individual pages (corresponding to the tabs) on the site, but these will have a canonical tag pointing to the home page, Will I get penalized for this kind of structure? Cheers, JC

Removing URLs in bulk when directory exclusion isn't an option?
I had a bunch of URLs on my site that followed the form: http://www.example.com/abcdefg?q=&site_id=0000000048zfkf&l= There were several million pages, each associated with a different site_id. They weren't very useful, so we've removed them entirely and now return a 404.The problem is, they're still stuck in Google's index. I'd like to remove them manually, but how? There's no proper directory (i.e. /abcdefg/) to remove, since there's no trailing /, and removing them one by one isn't an option. Is there any other way to approach the problem or specify URLs in bulk? Any insights are much appreciated. Kurus
