How important is Conversion Rate Optimisation?
-
Silly question I know but just wanted to talk about it, more of a discussion then anything.
How important is CRO to you? Anyone have any stats before and after?
Cheers

Haha I wondered if you would read the article and notice that - I think your evidence above my prove that button colours really can make a difference. I have found the same to be honest. I also found changing the colour of a call to action resulted in a significant increase in click-throughs from my landing pages.
Some times I think things are just common sense and in a lot of cases I have found that the more you can spell something out for visitors the more they complete your desired actions. You can't argue with metrics and split testing in my opinion.
-
They may be the same, but getting those 15.000 visitors costs you much more.
-
CRO is by far the most important part of the job when you get to do it (and not the web designer.) I would rather bring someone 100 visitors, 50 of whom bought my company's product than send them 1000, 25 of whom bought the product. Companies exist to make money and sell things (and sometimes help people out.) If we're contributing to the bottom line dollar, we'll have much longer careers.
-
Improving conversions is massively important, the great thing too is that no matter who you're working for nothing is ever perfect so there is always room for improvement. Dig deep you'll always find something.
-
It is much easier to double your money from existing customers than double your customers. (at least on the first pass).
-
Yeah its amazing actually what the change of a colour can do.
I've noticed that actually decreasing the level of content on a page so the message is more clear actually has had great impact.
-
Haha I like the section "Don't split-test the colour of your buttons (unless you really want to)" But it just goes to show the importance of testing as much as possible and basing all decisions on metrics

CRO is one of the most important things that I do in relation to digital marketing in my opinion because as we all know even the smallest change on a landing page can influence the success or conversion of visitors. It's all well and good having a site that has thousands of visits a day, but if none of those convert then you are potentially loosing out significantly.
Just changing the focus of a page using heat maps and a & b testing has lead to a significant increase in revenue generated.
When I read this article a couple of years ago I changed my focus to include an even more intensive push on CRO so I thought I would link to it for those that never saw it - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-definitive-howto-for-conversion-rate-optimization

Hi there, CRO is something that I've been gradually devoting more and more time to, because the ROIs have been excellent. On one page we received a 35% increase in click-throughs by changing the button colour. I run A/B tests on as many pages in the funnel as possible now and have seen consistent improvements in conversions.
-
Well, if you're in business and trying to make a profit it is actually a more important stat than traffic. I'd rather have 15% conversion on 2000 visitors than 2% on 15,000. Even though they are the same, you have much more room to grow profitably.

Track bounce rate per PPC keyword
Hi all Wondering if anyone could give me a nudge in the right direction with this please. When running an adwords campaign is there a way in which one can track the bounce rate on the landing page per keyword sending paid traffic? I've had a play about in adwords and GA and couldn't find the right option. The site I am sending traffic to is not a ecommerce site so cannot set up conversion tracking so we are going to monitor the bounce rates of different keywords and drop the ones which are bouncing much higher than others as it seems better to invest the budget in those words which are keeping people on the page for longer. Many thanks Carl

Help! Tracking Conversion Source of Specific Users: Possible? How?
Just as an example, let's say we generate a website lead from John Smith. Can we trace John Smith's activity back through AdWords or Analytics to see exactly where he came from and (with AdWords for example) what keyword he typed in before clicking our ad and converting? Thanks for the help!

What is the B2B Benchmark for PPC Landing Page Conversions
I work for a B2B software company and have recently begun implementing PPC via Adwords. I was wondering what you guys use as a standard benchmark for a successful landing page, specifically conversion rate? Conversion rate being defined as someone clicking to the landing page, then clicking on a link or filling out a form on the landing page.

Good content but high bounce rate
Hi all, We run a website offering specialist turkey tours and gulet cruises. Our website holds a few information and recipes pages which are doing well in the engines and bring in alot of traffic. However these pages are crippling our bounce rate with bounces of about 80-90%. The time on site for these pages are above the websites average, but it seems that once the reader has finished with the information/ recipe, they bounce back to the Search engines. An example of one of our recipe pages can be found here: http://www.petersommer.com/turkey/turkish-food/pilav-rice/ We have thought about moving and redirecting these pages from our main site to a new website, but we are worried that it may effect our position in the SERP's. Can anybody offer any advice on this? Thanks

Lookiing for examples of local "small biz" sites with phone or contact form conversion points
Hi Guys, I'm looking for any good examples of small business sites that you've come across that do a good job at converting potential visitors to clients. I'm primarily thinking about service oriented business such as Doctors, Dentists, Salons, Clothing stores, small restuarants, car detailing services, local photographers, etc. I'm just trying to digest other examples and look for new inspirations.

Ideal product page conversion/retention rate for eCommerce sites
Hi SEOmoz-ers, I was wondering if anyone has data regarding product page abandonment rate (% of potential customers that leave the site after seeing product pages) for websites like Overstock, REI or Zappos? As you may know the above mentioned sites do an exceptional job with product pages. It would be helpful to know what some of the leaders in this space are achieving in terms of conversion rate. What is your personal opinion about this? Thanks,
