Has this new Dmoz link put my rankings at risk?
-
About 7 months ago, I applied for a link at Dmoz.
This week, the link got approved. The only problem is that it seems there are hundreds of link directories that scrape Dmoz.
Open Site Explorer is now showing about 130 new links to my site that are essentially Dmoz scrapper sites.
Do you think Google will mistaken this as me buying directory links?

Google knows about DMOZ, so they won't consider links from the other directories to be paid links, but there is some risk of Penguin depending on your link profile and what kind of anchor text you used. I would monitor the links that are coming in from the other directories carefully, and use the disavow tool if you come across anything unsavory.

First of all congrats on taking a linkfrom dmoz, even with its contras it still remains a good source where to have your link placed.
Second don't worry about it. Google knows how many sites are taking DMOZ data even Google directory is based on it

DMOZ links and directory links in general will not hurt the website if they are decent quality.
Last October I interviewed a Google Search Quality employee who confirmed this and also confirmed high quality directory's are still fine to use: http://jamesnorquay.com/an-interview-ex-member-matt-cuttss-search-quality-team/
But that been said out of the 130 lower quality sites I would check them over to first see if they are indexed and then to also see if they have PR on page and also the general style of the directory. If you are concerned I would look at manually removing them if possible via out reach or if worst case scenario and they are very low quality I would use the Disavow tool.

Ranking all but lost after new content pushed
Okay, I thought I was following best practices. In our industry, electronic hardware, we were ranking well for a particular product line (/spacers) but we wanted to do better. We addressed several concerns that Moz found first; duplicate page titles, lack of meta-descriptions and overall lack of targeted keywords. We also took a new approach to add a better structure to our site. Instead of being presented with a list of part numbers we wanted the user to learn more about our products with content. So we added a /products page with content and a product specific page (/spacers) that is almost a definitive buyers guide. We are attempting to answer the questions that we think our customers find most relevant. Well our customers might find it relevant but Google sure didn't. After our deployment of new content our rankings for targeted keywords in Google fell from 10-15 to 80-95 As an open ended question, could somebody explain to me why our ranks fell off a cliff? Yahoo and Bing Rankings
Hello. I have noticed that Yahoo and Bing rankings for all of my clients have significantly tanked as of the beginning of March. Has there been a recent algorithm update for these two search engines and what are some major things I can look for to fix? Thank you,

Will Regularly Adding New Blog Posts Improve Ranking?
We have added very little new website content in the last year. Our domain is www.metro-manhattan.com. Would adding a brand-new blog post once a week help improve our ranking in Google? A few years ago adding new content would've had quickly had a positive effect. Is that still the case? Or should we focus content creation resources in other areas such as social media? Thanks, Alan

Why does this site rank above us?
We own www.discountbannerprinting.co.uk and over the last 8 months have built some decent guest post, charity and customer links but still we seem to be beaten on good words such as banners, banner, vinyl banner, pvc banner etc by this website www-signfirm.com we just cannot figure out how this is happening and would be very grateful if someone with great wisdom could give us an in-site into why this is happening and we would be very grateful..

Bing Ranking Factors
I'm curious about the relationship (or lack of ) between Google rankings and Bing rankings. We took a huge hit last winter with Google and have since gotten back up to the top 3 and have been holding steady on all our most important terms. Most of our losses since regaining Google, have been with Bing. This week, we dropped 44 points on Bing and Yahoo! for our most important term. Are there known factors for Bing ranking? If so, can anyone please enlighten me? And does anyone think Bing rankings even matter these days?

New Domain name vs Low Ranked Existing Site
I am going to build a new site. I could hang it off an existing site with similar content or buy a new keyword rich domain and start over. The existing site does not have much trust or authority beyond the domain being registered for 5 plus years. I would prefer to start over and build linksfrom scratch but I realize we are starting at the bottom. The keywords we will be competing against are not super competetive so I think we can get ranking within 6 months or so. These post Panda days I am rethinking everything so any input is appreciated. I did a similar niche site a few years ago and found the site ranked well fairly quickly for its little nice. Today though it may be different. I have no experience in buying domains and would have no idea where to start there. New or existing? Thanks for any input.

My homepage doesn't rank anymore. It's been replaced by irrelevant subpages which rank around 100-200 instead of top 5.
Hey guys, I think I got some kind of penalty for my homepage. I was in top5 for my keywords. Then a few days ago, my homepage stopped ranking for anything except searching for my domain name in Google. sitename.com/widget-reviews/ previously ranked #3 for "widget reviews"

but now....
sitename.com/widget-training-for-pet-cats/ is ranking #84 for widget reviews instead. Similarly across all my other keywords, irrelevant, wrong pages are ranking. Did I get some kind of penalty?0 -
