Should I put my "brand" in every one of my posts / pages?
-
I've heard different thoughts on this and wanted to see what you the seomoz group thought. I have been leaving my "brand" out of my titles so I could create longer titles (without my "brand" taking up precious space.) I've also read that adding your brand can take away from the words you want to optimize for in the title / post.
I've read other places that you want your brand in every page title to "strengthen" your brand.
Long story short, I'm trying to figure out if I should add my brand to the my page / post titiles, or leave them as is.
Feel free to check out my site and current title template if you'd like.
Thanks!

I think brand is always important. I did some research into this last year and came away with this: If your brand is strong lead with the brand and then follow with the primary keyword phrase and if your brand is weak, do it the other way around. Use a pipe or dash to separate them. If you search on oatmeal cookies you will see both examples. Keep an eye out on your searches and you'll see lots of results using this style. I think this is a best practice.

I think it comes down to what you want to show up in the SERPs . Will people click through to your site if they see your Brand Name or would you rather have the freedom of creating a longer title that people might like ?

Thanks for the feedback, that's sort of what I was thinking as well.

I think adding the brand vs not adding the brand really depends on the site itself. In the case of a site that is actively selling something, like an e-commerce site or a site designed to drive leads, I think that branding every page is absolutely a great idea, as it builds brand-recognition with customers and can potentially lead to loyalty and repeat purchases.
For your case, your site is more of a resource (or at least that's what it looked like, I took a quick glance at the "About us" page). You aren't selling to customers, so maintaining brand recognition isn't as important. What's more important in your case is the content, so anything you can do to make the titles more relevant to the content is going to benefit you the most in the long run.
This is my take on it... I could be absolutely wrong, though this strikes me as more of an "opinion" question than one with a definitive answer. Hope it helps though!

How to handle knock-off product leveraging your brand keywords?
Hello all, I fear this may be a bit of newcomer question but maybe you can help me out. My business is in a highly competitive market, and when you search for our branded name many of our competitors show up in search results well before us (who don't contain, or even reference, our brand name on their site). We're trying to take a proactive approach to content development and site enhancement, but I am wondering if there's anything on the defense-front that we can do to better own our brand ranking in SERPs. Thoughts? Suggestions? Should I be reading SEO 101? Thanks

Help! Odd SERP results on two branded terms.
We have had the ODDEST thing happen to our Branded search. Last week we started seeing our Women’s subdomain (women.duluthtrading.com) outranking our main Duluth Trading domain (duluthtrading.com) on searches for “duluth trading co” and “duluth trading company”. Sample of odd results page: http://screencast.com/t/cKgkaYc1 As you can see- our Women's sub domain is ranking #1 then our main domain, THEN what used to be our organic site links are now listing 3-6. If you search for "duluth trading" though, you will get the typically results page: http://screencast.com/t/qGLDWiM0f We have been trying to figure out how or why this has happened. Our website went out for 30 minutes on January 4th. We thought maybe that is what happened but it has now been 7 days. Any help or suggestions would be great!

Site Architecture for Sub-Brands
I am working on launching a few industry specific sub-brands for our marketing agency and am trying to figure out the best way to deliver a tailored user experience using subfolders instead of subdomains, if this is indeed the best option... Since I am trying to provide separate experiences, I looking at housing microsites in sub-folders - say /technology or /medical. Each with its own navigation, home page, and industry specific content/blog/portfolio. A couple things I am considering: Will my microsite "home pages" and site pages rank as well in a sub-folder versus if they were actually the primary pages on their own sub-domain? Will separate Wordpress and theme installs and separate primary navigations have any affect on SEO if they are in sub-folders of the same site? Thanks in advance for any input. I really appreciate it!

Facebook Like my website or fan page??
Should I want people facebook liking my website or my fan page? Is there a way to link the two? Here is my dilemma... People liking my website will obviously have an effect on rankings within bing and google possibly. BUT - People liking my fan page will allow me to engage with them in the future about givaways, sales and so on. I'm stuck, is there a way to link these? Or if not, which do you recommend?
