Why do WMT's Search Analytics & GA's Real Time Keywords Differ?
-
I took a screen shot of the keywords from Google Analytics Real Time Keywords for Google / Organic. Then I waited a week and filtered Google Webmaster Tools' Search Analytics for queries with those keywords. None of them showed up.
- Why not? What I missing?
- Why do some keywords show up in Google Analytics RT for Google / Organic while most others are in Not Provided?
- I see WMT's Search Analytics says that it doesn't always show queries that "are made a very small number of times or those that contain personal or sensitive information." But most of my queries are like that. Anybody know any patterns / criteria that leads WMT to show some but not others?
Thanks

Hi Gil,
Unfortunately I do not have a direct answer as to what is causing your particular discrepancy between GA and GWT's Search Console. However, I think this article might be helpful in trying to understand why you're seeing the results you've described.
Basically, these systems use very different calculations to return the data they provide. To be honest, when it comes to the Real Time results in GA I would be quite surprised to find any of them in the Search Console or a regular GA report unless it is a head term that frequently drives a significant amount of traffic...
I am curious as to whether or not you have seen the Real Time results match up in the past. Please do post an update if these reports end up matching in the future!

Thanks. They are very long tail terms, everything on this site is. Yes, the GA & GWT top 1,000 queries match. But neither matches the Real Time results from that day's Analytics (even after waiting a few days for the regular analytics keyword reports to include the RT data from a few days earlier).

- Hard to answer without more data for now, it could be that they were very long tail terms. How about doing a reverse one on this and checking the most popular keywords in Google Search Console versus Google Analytics.
- It can be that certain people are using a Google service that is not connected to HTTPS, in these cases you should still be able to see the keywords. But currently that's less than 10% of all organic users.

Hi there.
I'll try to help as much as I can, but this new GMT/GA policies are very confusing to me.
So, to start, as far as I know, Google stopped providing organic search keywords recently due to security reasons etc. I can't find any recent articles about this, so may be other MOZers can leave a link. That's why there is so much of (not provided) keywords.
Also, as far as I understand, GMT provides much accurate (and actually more than GA) data. So, I'd trust GMT rather that GA. I know that you can connect them and all, but from my experience, GMT shows more.
I know it doesn't really answer your questions, but i hope it can at least lead you in direction you can dig more.

Is Google's Knowledge Graph stealing sessions from the organic channel?
Does Google count it as an organic session in Google Analytics when a searcher clicks on the "get directions", "call" or even "website" from Google's Knowledge Graph. Are the articles that prove or disprove this question? Thanks!

Something does not add up with WMTs search analytics data
we recently replatformed our main site and switched to https. For the first 2-3 weeks after we moved organic traffic was great, we did not lose any ( increased a little), but then it dropped off significantly. Attached is a screenshot from one of our main keywords that dropped off. You can see click (blue) and impressions (red) dropped off, and the position became unstable, but in the last week it has stabilised to about the same position it was before, but the clicking and impressions are still very low. The keyword is generic (for our industry) and there would not be any major seasonal changes in the search volume. I can't make sense of this data, could be be wrong? Kd3p5f9.jpg

Having Issue with Site Search in Analytics
Hi Mozzers, We launched a website in October 2012 and have added in the settings(Google analytics) of that profile "Do Track Site Search" since we have a search box on the website. The site search report worked for 10 days and it was over(from end of december till beginning of January 2013). Since then I have been trying to understand this issue. I have added all the query search terms possible, but still not showing any signs of life. At this point I am not sure what to do? Some Help would be appreciated! Search URL= subdomain.example.com**/search/node/**.... Thanks! z93cGUZ.png

Google Analytics censoring keywords?
The top keyword on our real time GA is showing as a blank. There's a topic of a sexual nature in our talk threads trending on Twitter right now which is driving a lot of traffic and I'm wondering whether Google have censored the keyword. The next few keywords are our name and variants of. Could there be some other reason why this word isn't showing up? Has anyone else experienced this?

Timing of Anchor Text Diversity
I am a huge fan of WBF and I saw the one about anchor text diversity, and although it helped answer a lot of questions it definitely raised a few more. So how does anchor text diversity relate to the timing of it all? If for instance there is a site that already has thousands of links for related terms to the keyword "oranges", would it be ok to now JUST build links with the exact anchor text "oranges"? or would the site still have to build links to both related terms and the exact match? So to clarify, i guess my question is, when Google looks at anchor text diversity and % of partial keyword match, is it looking at all the links to the page as a whole or is it looking at the links as they come? And what is the % of exact anchor text that is healthy? I am thinking that 10% exact match and the rest should be partial match. Am i off? Is there a better ratio? Thanks in advance -Vaibhav Methuku
