Href Lang tags in audit
-
Hi
I am getting a couple of issues flag with my href lang tags, but when I manually check the pages I can't see the issues.
Issue 1. No self referencing href lang tag example URL - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/300kg-capacity-manutan-mobile-lift-table-lift-height-860mm-125h204
(these are SKU pages with duplicate content, so we have canonicals pointing to the main product page)
Issue 2. Conflicting hreflang and rel=canonical - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/500kg-capacity-manutan-mobile-lift-table-lift-height-945mm-127h204
I have checked the source code of the pages with errors against the pages which don't have errors and they look the same - so I am unsure what's wrong?

Great thank you. I'm just unsure as to why they're flagging as errors anyway
Thank you!

There isn't an error in the markup for the two pages that you shared. Hreflang markup on duplicate pages is useless so you will not lose anything by getting rid of hreflang on these pages. You can try deleting hreflang and see what happens. You only need hreflang on canonical versions of the page. (in your case it would be pages like http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/mobile-lift-tables and http://www.keyonline.ie/en/kie/mobile-lift-tables and not http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/300kg-capacity-manutan-mobile-lift-table-lift-height-860mm-125h204)
Or you can leave it as is and ignore the errors because duplicate pages should have no effect either way.

Great thank you, Ill check the bing tracking too!

This response from John Doherty might help you out... https://mza.seotoolninja.com/community/q/correct-hreflang-canonical-implementation-for-multilingual-site
One other thing of note was your bing webmaster tools configuration looked broken.

HREF LANG: Different navigation/structure per country: is that a problem?
Hi all, One question about the href lang tag. Our webshop sells to 4 different countries (the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium & Spain). The navigation is a little bit different for these countries, depending on how popular certain product categories are in certain countries. So, for example: Netherlands --> Category A and B are in the top navigation

Germany --> Category B is a subcategory of product A. We want to implement the Hreflang tag, would it be a problem that the navigation/site structure (and therefore the URL structure for certain categories) are a bit different? So: The url for category B in the Netherlands is: https://www.website.com/nl/category-B/
The url for category B in Germany is: https://www.website.com/de/category-A/category-B/ Thanks in advance! Best!0 -
Duplicate Content Errors new website. How do you know which page to put the rel canonical tag on?
I am having problems with duplicate content. This is a new website and all the pages have the same page and domain rank, the following is an example of the homepage. How do you know which page to use the canonical tag on? http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php http://medresourcesupply.com/ Would this be the correct way to use this? Here is another example where Moz says these are duplicates. I can't figure out why because they have different url's and content. http://medresourcesupply.com/clutching_at_the_throat http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=detailed_specfications &category=Main

Href lang and multilingual question
Greetings Moz-Hive mind! I'm hoping you can help me on the internationalisation conundrum below; We currently have a website with three distinct 'locales' US, SEA and UK we automatically redirect customers using IP recognition to a locale which matches, we also determine their currency based on IP. The issue we currently have is a lot of duplicate content and no use of href lang or rel=canonical tags etc... My proposed structure would be to create a locale based directory for the three locales we offer. / - being US and most other Worldwide /uk - being UK /as - being Hong Kong and other Asian territories. How would you suggest we set up the href lang tags for these? Because technically there are going to be multiple language possibilities within. Our main customers are English only if this helps. Also as a secondary question, how should I set up the Google Search Console settings for each of these directories? Many thanks in advance.

Pagination and matching title tags - does it matter when using rel="prev" and "next" attributes?
I'm looking at a site with the rel="prev" and "next" HTML attributes in place, to deal with pagination. However, the pages in each paginated category have identical page titles - is this an issue? Rand gives an example of how he'd vary page titles here, to prevent problems, though I'm not entirely sure whether this advice applies to sites with the rel="prev" and "next" HTML attributes in place: https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/pagination-best-practices-for-seo-user-experience Any advice would be welcome - many thanks, Luke

Does alt tag optimization benefit search rankings (not image search) at all?
The benefits of alt tag optimization for traditional SEO has always been a "yo yo" subject for me. Way back in the day (2004 to 2007) I believed there was some benefit to alt tag SEO. However as time went on I saw evidence that the major search engines were no longer considering alt tag SEO as a ranking signal. However I later had the pleasure to work on a joint project with a high end SEO firm in 2011/2012. My colleagues fully believed that alt tag optimization was still a very important strategy for traditional SEO at that time. Is there any evidence available that alt tags still help with traditional SEO nowadays? I'm fully aware of the benefits of optimized alt tags and image search. However could optimized alt tags be one of those ranking factors that Google removed due to abuse and later quietly resurrected?

Title tags with >70 characters but most important words at start. Is this really a problem?
Is there in fact any kind of negative impact having title tags longer than 70 characters, as long as I place the most important keywords at the start and make sure that title still is compelling when cut somewhere around 70 characters? Are the additional words after the 70 characters limit just ignored? May additional words dillute the strength of the first words or may they even be helpful ? Any experience or any studies you know about impact of longer title tags? Or any statement from google about it?

Rankings tanked after sitewide title tag changes
Hi Guys, One of our clients are a big brand but their brand is a keyword domain. After signing up to seo moz and utilising the recommended changes to the on page seo, something drastic happened. Every page of my clients site appended the site name at the end of the title tag. Example: <title>keyword | keyword 2 | domain name keyword</title> I felt, and also with seomoz reports, that having the main keyword appended to the end of every title tag was far too spammy and as seo moz suggested could possibly have different pages fighting for ranks on that phrase. We decide to remove the domain from the end on all page titles, and since google re cached the site, the rankings have tanked big time. The site is still indexed so thats good but when you consider a single lead is worth over £1000 to my client and with 20-30 leads per month, he isnt too happy. Has anyone experienced this before? My guess is google is re evaluating the rankings to reflect the new title tags, and thus put my clients site out until it's finished updating the rankings etc? Any help? Thanks
