I've published my first infographic and started outreach to get links. I've also submitted it to several infographic directories. Should I use a canonical URL and if so how?

Thanks guys. I feel confident that this is not something that is a must (especially as it doesn't look like my infographic has been particularly loved out there) but when i have a spare mo I think I will add the code Linda suggested to the head of the page its on.

Do infographic directories request a link from users of the infographic to the original site? If people are uploading your infographic (the .jpg/.png version) then they should be providing a link to show acknowledgement to the author.

A canonical link looks like this: and goes in the head of your page.
Some people use these to keep credit for a page that an outside party may have scraped and used as their own. I assume this is what you are worried about. A canonical won't necessarily protect you (not everyone scrapes all the content) but it can serve as an extra signal to Google that the content was originally yours. (And adding a self-referential canonical doesn't hurt.)

Effects of a bad link linking to a image
i am getting a lot of links from wallpapers sites.. One person has created 1000's of similar sites that are linking back to my images. My guess is images do not pass link value positive or negative. But I am not sure what the potential effects would be. Does anyone know who linking to images might effect SEO especially when there coming from horribly low quality auto generated sites.

Suddenly Getting more than a 100 links. Is it a problem?
Hi Everyone, My client writes articles for a very prominent news source in the area where I live. Attached to each article there is her bio, but she never asked the news source to link to her website. So far, she has written more than 100 articles. What would happen if the news source suddenly links 100 times to her site? Would this be considered spammy from google or unnatural link building? Thank you very much for your answers. Arben

Does having '?search' in a URL affect the page quality?
In our Costume Themes category on our website, http://www.costumedirect.com.au/themes/, the links direct to search pages with URLs containing the term '?search'. For example, the 'Edward Scissorhands' link directs to http://www.costumedirect.com.au/search.php?search_query=edward. Will the question mark and 'search' in our URL affect the page quality and rankings? Thank you.

Non-profit link outreach with limited resources
Our competitive metrics are good but we need to increase our linking root domains to beat our competitors and climb a few critical positions in the SERPs. We have drawn up a link-building strategy based on Moz's very helpful guide, and begun trying outreach. We're a non-profit and the content we are pushing is blog content like this, in-depth articles like this (which, incidentally, do well in search), and we're also going to start creating more infographics and other types of content to try to generate some traction that way. However, based on the success of the campaign so far, it seems unlikely we'll acquire links at the rate we need to in order to keep up with our competitors, particularly given that we only have three people who can spend time on this (at a total of around 1.5 days per week). Clearly this is something we need to persevere with and integrate into our normal content cycle, but I can't see us picking up more than a dozen or so links a year unless something unexpectedly goes viral! It seems like link outreach is so common that it's very hard even to get link targets to engage with you on social media. People just see it as spam. It would be interesting to hear what other people have done successfully to help us figure our what a realistic approach to link building looks like.

Loads of quality content but not getting links!! What should I do?
Hi I have been working hard and creating valuable content for 2 years now, we create a weekly news letter with around 10 articles and all our customers love it. But still we are unable to get links to our sites. There are no active bloggers or sites for our industry and content is highly technical and scientific. My competitors have thin content with bad links and they still rank better than us............. Please help me by answering the questions below - Should we start submissions to directories? If yes which directories should we submit to? What else can we do to build links?

Any benefit to others' links in my blog comments?
I recently started a blog for my client. So far the response has been decent but, as should probably be expected, most of the commenters want to put a link to their own site in the comment. Do I have anything to gain by allowing these comments to stay on the page?

Should a site run it's own affiliate program to get inbound links?
I've recently signed an ecommerce client who runs their affiliate program through Commission Junction. If they were to bring their program in-house and eventually get all those affiliate links pointed to their domain, would those links be counted?
