Crawl test tool from SEOmoz - which URLs does it actually crawl?
-
I am using for the first time the crawl test tool from SEOmoz and I do not really understand which URLs the tool is going to crawl.
First, it says "enter any subdomain" --> why can´t I do the crawl for the root domain?
Second it says "we'll crawl up to 3,000 linked-to pages" --> does that mean that the tool crawls all internal links that it can find on the given domain?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Elke,
An initial Pro campaign will take up to 7 days to complete and will crawl up to a maximum 10,000 URLs for the root domain or sub domain that you choose to set it up for.
The Crawl Test tool is intended to provide a "quick start " option, which will report against the same diagnostic information, but for a limited number of URLs (3,000 & max of 2 domains per day). This allows you to get started on tidying up site issues while waiting for the full crawl to complete.
Since the Crawl Test tool allows you to run the quick crawl for any subdomain, it can also be useful for taking a look at the health of established sites you may be quoting on etc.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Alan, thank you for the answer. I am a Pro Member (trial version). But the only crawl diagnostics that I can find inside my campaign is a short Crawl Diagnostics summary which doesn´t include all the information that the crawl test tool gave me... I have just set up a campaign for the root domain, let´s see if the crawl diagnostics give me more information for that one.

When you become a pro meneber you can set up compaigns, then you can set up by root domain and crawl all sub domains.
the free version will crawl only one sudomain, such as

Solving URL Too Long Issues
Moz.com is reporting that many URL's are to long, these particularly affect Product URL's where the URL is typically https://www.domainname.com/collections/category-name/products/product-name, (You guessed it we're using Shopify). However, we use Canonicals that ignore all most of the URL and are just structured https://www.domainname.com/product-name, so Google should be reading the Canonical and not the long-winded version. However, Moz cannot seem to spot this... does anyone else have this problem and how to solve so that we can satisfy the Moz.com crawl engine?

Duplicate title on Crawl
Ok, this should hopefully be a simple one. Not sure if this is a Moz crawl issue of redirect issue. Moz is reporting duplicate title for www.site.co.uk , site.co.uk and www.site.co.uk/home.aspx is this a canonical change or a moz setting I need to get this number lower.

Seomoz crawl: 4XX (Client Error) How to find were the error are?
I got eight 404 errors with the Seomoz crawl, but the report does not says where the 404 page is linked from (like it does for dup content), or I'm I missing something? Thanks

Why is my domain not being crawled anymore?
I just noticed that right around 12/1/2012, SEOMoz stopped crawling all but two pages out of the 400 or so on my website at www.TrustworthyCare.com . I speculate that this is probably due to some dumb mistake I made at that time, but I can't for the life of me figure out what that mistake was. Before that, the weekly crawls included all 400 or so pages. I wonder whether it's something that changed in our .htaccess file. Here's how that file looks now; can anyone see what is wrong there, or perhaps offer other suggestions if it doesn't look like anything is wrong in it? Thanks! PPS - I found and read this page, but I've pretty much tried the things described there (I think): Getting relevant keywords from URL with Google KW Tool.
Hi, When I first start researching a site, I like to see what Google "thinks" it is relevant to. I use the Google KW Tool and enter the website URL only. I sort the results by relevance. I can then show the prospective client what Google thinks his site is optimized for and use that info to show him what opportunities exist to rank for terms more relevant to his business. I show him keyword, volume and I also get current SERP rank for his site. For larger sites, I do this for the top pages based Domain Authority. I want to automate this process using excel and APIs but Google refused my API token request. I told them I wanted to use the "Google AdWords API Extension for Excel" from http://seogadget.co.uk/google-adwords-plugin-excel. The Google API token team replied: Please note, after reviewing your application in detail, we are sorry to let you know that we won't be able to approve your token. We understand that you are planning to use the AdWords API mainly for Targeting Idea Service (TIS) and Traffic Estimation Service (TES) such as 'keyword research'. Please note that as per the Required Minimum Functionality (RMF) outlined in the API Terms & Conditions, using the AdWords API exclusively for TIS and TES type of services is not allowed. Q1: What does the KW Tool relevancy data mean, anyway? Q2: is there another way to get it or is there another way to do this? Q3: Is there a better approach I should take with the Google API team? Q4: Are there other APIs and Excel plugins that can do this, including the SEOMoz APIs? Thanks,

How long should the weekly crawl take
Mine started yesterday afternoon and it's now almost 11pm on Sunday. 30+ hours and still not finished (and no progress indicator). 438 pages quoted as being crawled. That's not normal - right? I have made a bunch of changes based on last weeks crawl so I have been eagerly waiting for this to finish But 30 hours?.... Thanks. Mark

Dismiss crawl diagnostics error
Hello everyone, Is there a way to dismiss some errors in the Crawl Diagnostics tool so they don't appear again? It happens so that some of the errors are never going to be fixed because of their nature. For example, 'Title too long' errors that point to some of the threads on my forum - it doesn't make sense to change the title of a thread posted by user just for the sake of the error disappearing from the 'Crawl Diagnostics' tool. 🙂 Otherwise the CD interface gets a little bit cluttered with errors which I will never fix anyway. I wonder how others deal with this problem. Thanks.
