Do building sites on expired domains help?
-
Many times I have wondered whether building sites on expired domains, which are sold at popular domain auction websites like TDNAM(Godaddy),SEDO etc. Is it of any worth ? Buying domains with existing parameters such as PR,Alexa ranks etc. and already indexed pages where these expired sites rank on keywords which one is looking forth and then building sites on these domains to promote your other sites. How successful would this trick be?
-
I bought the expired domain of a competitor a year or so ago and redirected it to one of our main domains and it's done us fairly well. Unfortunately they left quite a few unhappy customers so there has been a bit of PR firefighting to do, but overall it's positive. If I were going to do it again I would have done a lot more research, I was just sloppy.
MaryAnneG is absolutely right, you need to do a lot of research before you buy one, there are plenty of people out there artifically making their domains look much better than they are.

In theory, I believe Google drops PR if the domain expires. In practice, people have been successful with this tactic in the past...
A safer bet would be to buy the domain at auction before it actually expires. Word of warning: Some sellers resort to blackhat tactics to falsify TBPR and artificially boost traffic/Alexa stats so they can "pump 'n' dump" the domain. Do your homework and make sure what you're buying is the real deal.

Should ALL of my blogposts be focussed on my main target keywords for my site?
Hi everyone. I am an interior designer and I'm looking to boost my rankings locally for my target keywords (eg: Interior designer in Cheltenham) and I'm wondering about whether my blog posts should all be planned out with this (and other similar, location based) keywords in mind. For example, should I always make my target keyword for each blog post something related to 'interior design in xxx' or should I look for other keywords just related to my field? Eg: interior design tips, furniture guides, paint colour advice etc, just because it is related? As an example, I am planning a blog post to go on my website which will be about a trip I'm taking to Copenhagen. Could my keyword therefore just be something like 'interior design', and this would be okay? Thanks for reading! Lauren

Have question about usage of similar keywords on single vs multiple pages within the same site...
I am working on a campaign with someone and have been talking back and forth about some keyword usage thoughts. More precisely multiple keywords that are similar and how to use them on the page for best results in ranking without diluting our own work to rank well. Example: Keywords:

Vehicle Wraps
Vehicle Wraps Phoenix
Phoenix Vehicle Wraps
Car Wraps
Car Wraps Phoenix
Phoenix Car Wraps One thought is that the keywords are so similar that it would best benefit us to target one page to the grouping of like keywords and long-tail keywords, and not making separate pages as to create competition for the same keyword within the site itself. Also that Google is "smart" enough to see that car wraps and vehicle wraps are like keywords, and that car wraps when linked to a site from Phoenix, will also pull as Car Wraps Phoenix. The other thought is we target one page for each separate keyword although the keywords are so similar. What are your thoughts? I wanted to ask all of your thoughts as I am sure your feedback will be enlightening. (Always helpful!!) Thank you!0 -
Why is my site ranking well on google but not on Yahoo and Bing?
For our site Boynton Law, we added it to be indexed on Yahoo and Bing but none of the keywords are showing up in the top 50 rankings. Why are our keywords not working on Yahoo and Bing, but on Google our keyword rankings for Boytnon are really strong?

New domain name, better to put the activity in the domain ?
Hello, I'm working on a new dance school website. They already have their domain name .ae but the .com is not available. I was wondering in this case how could it would be to work on a domain like name-dance-school.com instead of name.ae In thie case .ae is very good as they just work on the uae. But I think that name-dance-school will definitely help them to rank better. Has anyone ever face this situation ? Best regards.

Does adding the suffix "-ing" affect ranking for a keyword? E.g. "build" vs "building"
In other words, let's say the keyword I wanted to rank for was "building a home" but the SERP only showed sites ranking for "build a home". If I specifically optimized my page for "building a home" would that increase my chances for ranking for "building a home"?

Help with creating SEO video for my industry
Hi There, I'm currently producing some SEO videos for a friend of mine who has a video website for the driving instructor industry and I'm going to make some videos for him on basic SEO (overview of Google, finding keywords, content, google places, meta titles / descriptions, urls with domain name in etc, link building, etc etc).99.9% of people in this industry dont know much about website and SEO etc, so dont have tools such as SEOMOZ, wordtracker etc. Therefore I cant use these tools to get people finding the best keyword which are not too competitive for them. Does anyone know if there is a keyword difficulty tool equivilent out there to SEOMOZ which is free, as im having trouble finding one (Google keyword tool doesnt do this). (I will be mentioning doing the 30 day trial etc, but some people will not like giving their credit card details and then cancelling). Thanks a lot. Antony

Page Authority & Domain Authority for dummies
Can someone explain me what is this? I just ran a keyword difficulty report for my keyword "refurbished printers", we are not in the top 10, and I see a table with 4 columns: page authority, Page Linking Root Domains, Domain Authority, Root Domain Linking Root Domains I have many questions here: 1. The bigger the number the better? 2. The most green the better? What about the red in the last 2 columns? 3, How can I improve an specific page to rank there and improve these numbers? 4. What does it mean the green check next to some numbers? Thanks
