Is un-searched content worth writing?
-
Hi,
Is every post you write on your site is SERPs worthy?
I'll give an example -
We often cover industry related news items. It is written very well with personal opinions, comments and detailed explanations. Our readers find it interesting, "like" and "plus" it. However, these items will never appear in the SERPs simply because they won't be searched.Needless to say that these are not ever green pieces. If by chance it lands a subject that may be searched in the future, usually it won't appear because it means that the item was also covered by major sites like CNN, Forbes, Bloomberg etc.
Is it worth out time to keep "investing" in these types of articles?
Thanks

If there is a need to write these from a customer's point of view, no matter how they are going to find the content, then the posts should be written. You don't need to cultivate everything on your site for search - there should be a reason behind why you create and publish content, however, and EGOL is right that a content plan is an important start if you feel that you're writing / publishing "in the dark" with no structure.
Short updates might be very useful for your current readership, or for historical purposes, so that future readers can go back and research what constituted a "record price" in 2014. They may never arrive at that content through a search engine, but it's useful to them and they find it regardless.

Thank you all for the answers!
I like the dramatic approach EGOL presented.
It is true that when I'm writing these articles I'm not doing other things.
However, these articles "land" on my lap since it is constantly happening, it is news worthy, it is related and readers like it.If we are talking about the jewelry industry, an example would be covering auctions at Christie's and Sotheby's where they constantly sell special items at record prices. This however won't be searched (I also know this from experience).
True that articles such as "hot to guides" and educational material are probably better - but it is not instead of those.
It does however take great effort (time and money) to do those and the question is if it is worth it... -
In my opinion you should write for the person going to your site rather than the search engines, they will be the ones using your products and services. You can tailor a lot of "inner pages" towards key phrase in your niche.

Write for the user, not for ranking. If the users like, and share, and spend time navigating through your content, search engines will take notice.
Easiest way? Look at what is one the site, look at what the competition is writing, and how they rank. Look back at yours and compare.
"Is every post you write on your site is SERPs worthy?"
This is only something you and your traffic can answer. Reading through what you have, does it address all aspects of the point you are trying to make, or give all information on a topic you are trying to cover? What is it that makes people like or share what you have written?
"You need a content development plan."
-
STOP.
You need a content development plan.
You are under attack and you have limited ammunition and only moments before you are overrun. Don't waste your precious ammunition and time shooting into the air or into the ground. Be sure that you are hitting the enemy!
Content that is never searched can be important, but only when it serves a purpose for someone who is important to your business and you guide them to it on obvious paths.
-
In my opinion most definitely. I think I remember reading that up to 80% of searched per month have never been recorded before. This means that there's nothing to say your content won't be searched for in future. I'd also say that by creating this content you are building an authoritative presence that can help in with your internal link structure to enhance rankings for other pages that may contain more popular search term and aslo link juice to any other sites you may own.
-
If visitors are engaged with your content, they will come back. That's a good reason to write it.
How do you know that they never will be searched? Much of the content I generated focus on "extremely" niche topics (long tail kw's) and we do receive visitors for these topics. Also, generating original content adds credibility to your brand and site. As you know, it's not all about competitive keywords.

Duplicate Content
Let's say a blog is publishing original content. Now let's say a second blog steals that original content via bot and publishes it as it's own. Now further assume the original blog doesn't notice this for several years. How much damage could this do to blog A for Google results? Any opinions?

Questions about duplicate photo content?
I know that Google is a mystery, so I am not sure if there are answers to these questions, but I'm going to ask anyway! I recently realized that Google is not happy with duplicate photo content. I'm a photographer and have sold many photos in the past (but retained the rights for) that I am now using on my site. My recent revelations means that I'm now taking down all of these photos. So I've been reverse image searching all of my photos to see if I let anyone else use it first, and in the course of this I found out that there are many of my photos being used by other sites on the web. So my questions are: With photos that I used first and others have stolen, If I edit these photos (to add copyright info) and then re-upload them, will the sites that are using these images then get credit for using the original image first? If I have a photo on another one of my own sites and I take it down, can I safely use that photo on my main site, or will Google retain the knowledge that it's been used somewhere else first? If I sold a photo and it's being used on another site, can I safely use a different photo from the same series that is almost exactly the same? I am unclear what data from the photo Google is matching, and if they can tell the difference between photos that were taken a few seconds apart.

Do Local Search Efforts (Citations, NAP, Reviews) have an impact on traditional organic search listings (without the A, B, C mapping icons), but rather the traditional listings?
Are citations, NAP, Reviews, and other local search efforts impact traditional SEO listings? Can one elaborate?

Copy content from news about your own company
I´ve a client who uses news articles about his company in newspaper and other magazines in his blog. It´s fair because he wants to show how how big and important he is when someone check his website but in otherwise he is just copying content from others sites. ( there is lot of original content also) Should I use noindex on these pages or use a rel=canonical? We already ask permission and show the font with the link in these cases.

2 URLS pointing to the same content
Hi, We currently have 2 URL's pointing to the same website (long story why we have it) - A & B. A is our main website but we set up B as a rewrite URL to use for our Pay Per Click campaign. Now because its the same site, but B is just a URL rewrite, Google Webmaster Tools is seeing that we have thousands of links coming in from site B to site A. I want to tell Google to ignore site B url but worried it might affect site A. I can't add a no follow link on site B as its the same content so will also be applicable on Site A. I'm also worried about using Google Disavow as it might impact on site A! Can anyone make any suggestions on what to do, as I would like to hear from anyone with experience with this or can recommend a safe option. Thanks for your time!

404 for duplicate content?
Sorry, I think this is my third question today... But I have a lot of duplicated content on my site. I use joomla so theres a lot of unintentional duplication. For example, www.mysite.com/index.php exists, etc. Up till now, I thought I had to 301 redirect or rel=canonical these "duplicated pages." However, can I just 404 it? Is there anything wrong with this rpactice in regards to SEO?

Content linking ?
If you have links on the left hand side of the website on the Navigation and content at the bottom of the page and link to the same page with different anchor text or the same would it help the page (as it is surrounded by similar text) or is the first one counted and this is it?

Pages with Little Content
I have a website that lists events in Dublin, Ireland. I want to provide a comprehensive number of listings but there are not enough hours in the day to provide a detailed (or even short) unique description for every event. At the moment I have some pages with little detail other than the event title and venue. Should I try and prevent Google from crawling/indexing these pages for fear of reducing the overall ranking of the site? At the moment I only link to these pages via the RSS feed. I could remove the pages entirely from my feed, but then that mean I remove information that might be useful to people following the events feed. Here is an example page with very little content
