Regarding Flat site structure and how much flat ?

Is it nice to place all commercial landing pages ( product pages) just below the root domain though their number would be around 50k ?
Many eCommerce sites does this so that the root domain link juice flow directly to the product page. What's your say on this ?
-
If you're saying you'd put some (not all), of your most profitable product pages directly below the root domain (in the first folder) then I can see how that would work. But if you're talking about putting all 50,000 product pages directly below the root, no. That would distribute your link juice too broadly and confuse visitors and search engines.
Seems to me (and I could certainly be wrong), only big, established and recognized brands go the route you're suggesting.

Thanks Mr.Patrick and Ms.Donna for your suggestions which are very true with respect to SEO perspective.
But, Please understand my situation.
Let say I have 10 folders below root domain. So, all folders with get 10% of root domain rank juice. In case all my profitable pages (50k) are in 1st folder, all those pages will get 10/50k juice value.
If I put those pages directly below root domain, I will get 100/50k+x juice value from the root domain. ( x=9 other folders)
That means I am going to get 10 times more juice value to all my profitable pages in second case. That's what my competitors are doing. In case I don't, I will loose that opportunity.

If you were writing a will and had an estate worth $50,000, would you rather leave $1 to each of your closest friends and relatives or a much larger sum to a select few? The first scenario is basically what you're doing with your SEO equity now.
i agree with Patrick. Try to find a logical and meaningful categorization of your products that will make it easier for Google and visitors to navigate your site and understand your priorities.

Hi there
Ideally, you should have your products categorized in a logical hierarchy so that crawlers can better understand your site.
I recommend you take a look at these resources:
Information Architecture for SEO
Internal Links
Site Architecture & Search Engine Success FactorsIt really comes down to understanding your users and providing a clean navigation that's easy to follow and understand, and not too deep. You want the products to be as close to the homepage (click wise) as possible, but you also want it to be categorized logically and relevantly.
Do you think out of those 50,000 products that you could find a logical category structure? Or do multiple products fall into multiple categories?
Let me know - hope this helps! Good luck!

Duplicate content on job sites
Hi, I have a question regarding job boards. Many job advertisers will upload the same job description to multiple websites e.g. monster, gumtree, etc. This would therefore be viewed as duplicate content. What is the best way to handle this if we want to ensure our particular site ranks well? Thanks in advance for the help. H

Domain Structure - without www.
I'm working on a new project and we would prefer to not use the www. - for name/branding reasons. Are there any SEO ramifications from setting the domain without the www and using 301 redirects for all home page extensions to forward to -> domain.com(without the www)? Furthermore, we will be hosting many profiles on this site and would like to structure them for optimal SEO. Would there be an issue with using sub domains - user.domain.com, or would sub directories be more optimal? Thank you in advance!

Deindexed site - is it best to start over?
A potential client's website has been deindexed from Google. We'd be completely redesigning his site with all new content. Would it be best to purchase a new url and redirect the old deindexed site to the new one, or try stick with the old domain?

Google not visiting my site
Hi my site www.in2town.co.uk which is a lifestyle magazine has gone under a major refit. I am still working on it but it should be ready by the end of this week or sooner but one problem i have is, google is not visiting the site. I took a huge gamble to redo the site, even though before the refit i was getting a few thousand visitors a day, i wanted to make the site better as i was getting google webmaster errors. But now it seems google is not visiting the site. for example i am using sh404sef and i have put friendly url in the site and on the home page it has its name and meta tag but when you look at google it is not giving the site a name. Also it has not visited the site since october 13th Can anyone advise how to encourage google to visit the site please.

Canonical on ecommerce site
I have read tons of guides about canonical implementaiton but still am confused about how I should best use it. On my site with tens of thousands of urls and thousands of afiiliates and shopping networks sending traffic, is it smart to simply add the tag to every page and redirect to the same url. In doing this would that solve the problem of a single page having many different entrances with different tracking codes? Is there a better way to handle this? Also is there any potential problems with rolling out the tag to all pages if they are simply refrencing themselves in the tag? Thanks in advance.
