Creating Content for over 50,000 Pages
-
Hi,
Our site is a football (soccer) statistics sites. We gather information on upcoming games and post results of past games. At the moment we have over 50,000 pages of results each having in-game data displayed.
The main problem I have is none of these match data pages has any text.Mostly tables of stats.
Could anyone suggest a way of creating unique content for these pages?
If I created some generic a paragraphic of text that changed based on stats and figures would this be seen as duplicate content?

You're very welcome! And yes, I just took at look through ESPN's Fantasy Football section of their website in hopes of finding some great examples. This link should be very helpful:
http://games.espn.com/ffl/leaders?
After heading over to that link (or any other page in the ESPN Fantasy Football section of the site that has players listed), go ahead and click on the individual players to see their little write-ups in both the initial "Overview" tab, as well as the "News" tab. While each has been hand-crafted, they _definitely _are "cookie cutter" and stick to only a handful of templates. (It's no wonder, since there are SO many players, and the information is changing constantly!) As a user, while I've picked up on the idea of their writing team using these templates, it hardly feels like a shortcut was taken, as the information is still useful, relevant, and custom enough.
Be sure to let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Best,

Thank you zack for responding.
Can you point me in the right direction of ESPN?
From what I see all my main competitors have NO content paragraphs. ESPN does show up a few times in the SERPS.

While setting up variables would be possible, it may not be the best experience for the end user which is also important to Google. Are you able to hire writers for this type of content that can stick to a boiler plate cookie cutter paragraph or two for each page? While users will still pick up on it being cookie cutter, they would see that much less often and likely be very understanding. (Note: As a fantasy football player, I see ESPN doing this with player and team stats pages. They all follow one of only a few formats, but are written by humans, which still feels "very much worth reading" as a site visitor.)
Hope this outside perspective helps!
Best of luck,
Zack

Duplicate Content - Deleting Pages
The Penguin update in April 2012 caused my website to lose about 70% of its traffic overnight and as a consequence, the same in volume of sales. Almost a year later I am stil trying to figure out what the problem is with my site. As with many ecommerce sites a large number of the product pages are quite similar. My first crawl with SEOMOZ identified a large number of pages that are very similar - the majority of these are in a category that doesn't sell well anyway and so to help with the problem I am thinking of removing one of my categories (about 1000 products). My question is - would removing all these links boost the overall SEO of the site since I am removing a large chunk of near-duplicate links? Also - if I do remove all these links would I have to put in place a 301 redirect for every single page and if so, what's the quickest way of doing this. My site is www.modern-canvas-art.com Robin

We have 5 postions on page 2 in a google search, but none on page 1\. How can we fix this?
For one of our most important key phrases we have 5 listings on page 2 but none on page 1. We are an ecommerce company, the key phrase we're trying for is a Top Level Category name for us, so the 5 links we have on googles second page for the key phrase (in order) are the appropriate top level category page, the sites home page and than three sub categories of that top level category. So while that all makes sense, can't we convince google to concentrate all that link power/juice into just the top level category page? Hopefully bumping it to first page rank? The 5 ranks are 11-15

Archive of content
Hi there, I have recently joined a company to look after the e-marketing side of things, anyway the company I work for have been writing articles for a website that they own for over 2 years, probably about 200 or so unique articles on that website, however over the past year or so there has been no contribution to this site and was wondering if it would be worthwhile transferring these article over to our blog?, as this is where all the attention is in terms of marketing etc Kind Regards,

Should I use a Page Name variable after the ? for a dynamic web page
I'm converting for static to dynamic web pages. It appears that the page name is used for page ranking in the search engines. Will adding a Page Name variable help to increase our SEO. For example aspecialgift.com/subcat.php?PageName=GiftPage&ProductID=ABCDE. Does the page name variable make a difference?
