Any issues with having a seperate shop section?

Ive had a bit of a dilemma whether to go for a full ecommerce site or having a seperate shop section. My main goal is to push our installation services so Ive decided to go with the latter option. The main categories will be focused solely on Installation services and then Ill have a seperate category which will take the customer to mydomain.com/shop where well have our products for them to buy and fit themselves. The only issue I see is that Im going to have two pages competing against each other. Theyll both have different content but one will be focusing on us installing a particular product and the other will focus on the customer buying it to fit themselves. Will it make things more difficult to rank or wont it make a difference?

It shouldn't make a difference. After all, you'll be optimising the Shop version for 'product name', and the main site version for 'installing product name', and the content will be different - so the two pages should really be complimenting (and linking to) each other for a mutual benefit.
Duplicate content doesn't stop your best page ranking by the way. It's better to think about it as a filter - if you had two identical pages, only one will ever be found, and the other might as well not exist...

Complicated Title Tag Issues. Experts, Please Help!
Hey there Moz community! This is the first time I ask a question here so please forgive me if I miss any forum etiquette. I am managing SEO for an educational site which is built in React Js, and so far much of the job has been keyword research and site optimization. The site still has slow PageSpeed though. The Issues - 4 weeks ago we published 20 or so content pieces, I had pre-prepared title tags and meta descriptions. But when we released the content there was a programming error that made all of the pages show another title tag for all 20 pages instead of the pre-prepared individual title tags. I noticed this after 3 days and the issue was fixed within 6 days, but by then Google had crawled and indexed the pages. And now I can't get Google to change to the pre-prepared tags no matter what I do! I've tried changing the content, changing the URL of one of the pages, and I've sent Google spiders to re-crawl the pages multiple times. The super weird thing is that the correct title tag shows in the 'navigation bar/tabs bar' on google chrome: But NOT when I view the source code for the page: Yesterday I was taking a walk in the park and I just couldn't stop thinking about it (it is really starting to get to me by now since nothing works), so I ran back home and looked closely at one of these pages in the Google search console. And I noticed something I hadn't seen before… BOTH of the title tags can be found in the HTML: Pre-prepared title tag: <title></strong>UK Seat Belt & Car Seat Laws: The Definitive Guide<strong></title> The other title tag (in src section): title=Ace%20The%20DMV%20Permit%20Test%20%26%20Get%20Your%20License Could this be the problem or what do you think? I've understood that Google has automated title tags and that they can choose their own if they think it fits better, but the title tags aren't even close to describing the topic as it is now so it doesn’t make any sense. All answers are greatly appreciated! Your advice is life-saving for a learner like me. P.S. I love SEO but it can be very frustrating sometimes! Thank you very much, Leo

Including FAQ as Invividual Blog Posts Without Duplicate Issues
My website's FAQ section has a lot of detailed answers, of which I want to upload most on an individual basis to my blog. Example: I may have 30 FAQ and I want to upload 28 of these FAQ as individual blog posts, as it could be good additional search traffic. Question: how do I deal with duplicate content issues? Do I Include canonical? The FAQ are all on the same URL - not separate URL's - which means each blog post would only represent a small % of the entire FAQ section, though each blog would be a 100% copy of an FAQ.

Https Homepage Redirect & Issue with Googlebot Access

My homepage is set up as a 301 redirect to a https version of the homepage (some users log in so we need the SSL). Only 2 pages on the site are under SSL and the rest of the site is http. We switched to the SSL in July but have not seen any change in our rankings despite efforts increasing backlinks and out put of content. Even though Google has indexed the SSL page of the site, it appears that it is not linking up the SSL page with the rest of the site in its search and tracking. Why do we think this is the case? The Diagnosis: 1) When we do a Google Fetch on our http homepage, it appears that Google is only reading the 301 redirect instructions (as shown below) and is not finding its way over to the SSL page which has all the correct Page Title and meta information. <code>HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Date: Fri, 08 Nov 2013 17:26:24 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) Location: https://mysite.com/ Vary: Accept-Encoding Content-Encoding: gzip Content-Length: 242 Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 <title>301 Moved Permanently</title> # Moved Permanently The document has moved [here](https://mysite.com/). * * * <address>Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) Server at mysite.com</address></code> 2) When we view a list of external backlinks to our homepage, it appears that the backlinks that have been built after we switched to the SSL homepage have been separated from the backlinks built before the SSL. Even on Open Site, we are only seeing the backlinks that were achieved before we switched to the SSL and not getting to track any backlinks that have been added after the SSL switch. This leads up to believe that the new links are not adding any value to our search rankings. 3) When viewing Google Webmaster, we are receiving no information about our homepage, only all the non-https pages. I added a https account to Google Webmaster and in that version we ONLY receive the information about our homepage (and the other ssl page on the site) What Is The Problem? My concern is that we need to do something specific with our sitemap or with the 301 redirect itself in order for Google to read the whole site as one entity and receive the reporting/backlinks as one site. Again, google is indexing all of our pages but it seems to be doing so in a disjointed way that is breaking down link juice and value being built up by our SSL homepage. Can anybody help? Duplicate content issue - online retail site.
Hello Mozzers, just looked at a website and just about every product page (there are hundreds - yikes!) is duplicated like this at end of each url (see below). Surely this is a serious case of duplicate content? Any idea why a web developer would do this? Thanks in advance! Luke prod=company-081

Menu & Sub menu structure - section specific sub menu?
Hi, At present I have a set of regions across the nav bar with drop downs for towns within these regions. This totals about 60 links. This set up is pretty much site wide and the site ranks well for many of these towns. However, this is quite a lot of links per page (without the page specific/content links) and I am wondering about having just a horizontal sub menu of towns appear below the nav bar only specific to the selected region. Do you think cutting down the number of menu links will be beneficial to the content page's ranking. Sorry if that isn't very clear, can't think of a better way of putting it. TIA,

Page Authority Issue
My home page http://www.musicliveuk.com has a domain authority of 42 and page authority of 52. However I have set up other pages on the site to optimise for one keyword per page as I thought this was best practice. For example http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/wedding-bands targets 'wedding band' but this has a page authority of 24 way below my competitors. Having used the keyword difficulty tool on here it appears that is why I am struggling to rank highly (number 9). This is the same problem for several of my main keywords. I am building links to this and other pages in order to increase their authority and eventually rank highly but am I not better off optimising my home page that already has a good page authority and would probably out rank my competitors? Or am I missing something?
