Passing SEO value from a subdomain
-
Hi Everybody,
I have built a website (http://rugby.europcar.ie) which has gone viral and getting huge amounts of traffic world wide. The problem is, all the Facebook shares, tweets and other social traffic is all referencing the subdomain, and now www.europcar.ie where I want to build rankings.
What are my best options for referring this ranking power to my main domain?
Thanks in advance
Ronan

Martijn is 100% correct so please listen to him.
Thumbs up.

I don't think your share, tweet count would get passed on or redirected.
Why don't you leave the subdomain and the main site just the way it is and offer a call to action to the main website from the rugby site?
I don't think it is going to pass that much link juice through redirection..

Hello Ronan,
Unfortunately your share counts will go back to zero and you have to start over again. This is caused because none of the social networks follow/ read the redirects of your "old" urls. The guys at HubSpot wrote last August also about this which could be read here.
A couple of months ago we 301'ed on of our own blogs to a new domain name and also lost hundreds of share counts on Twitter and Facebook for our posts. You'll have to take the pain, but if you want to build rankings on your main domain this is probably the best way.
Hopefully this answers your question.

Would facebook / twitter etc take account for the 301 redirect, or would my share count etc go back to zero?
Thanks for the quick response btw

Get rid of the Sub-Domain and create europcar.ie/rugby instead.
301 rugby.europcar.ie to the new europcar.ie/rugby.

SEO for sub domains
I've recently started to work on a website that has been previously targeting sub domain pages on its site for its SEO and has some ok rankings. To better explain, let me give an example...A site is called domainname.com. And has subdomains that they are targeted for seo (i.e. pageone.domainname.com, pagetwo.domainname.com, pagethree.domianname.com). The site is going through a site re-development and can reorganise its pages to another URL. What would be best way to approach this situation for SEO? Ideally, I'm tempted to recommend that new targeted pages be created - domainname.com/pageone, domainname.com/pagetwo, domainname.com/pagethree, etc - and to perform a 301 redirect from the old pages. Does a subdomain page structure (e.g. pageone.domainname.com) have any negative effects on SEO? Also, is there a good way to track rankings? I find that a lot of rank checkers don't pick up subdomains. Any tips on the best approach to take here would be appreciated. Hope I've made sense!

Monthly SEO contract or dedicated employee?
Have one more question. There are people offering monthly SEO contracts like this http://www.link-building-strategies.com/monthly-link-building.html My question is that is it worth it for $199 a month? Though its reviews are good on freelancing sites but I can also hire a full time employee for that cost. Is there anything a dedicated employee cannot do that these guys are offering? Only drawback I see is I dont know the links where these guys are submitting but I am ready to spend much more time (my employees time) to get the things done. Please suggest. Your valued opinions welcome 🙂 Following is the detailed offering 1. 300 links submissions = 180 Guaranteed One Way Theme Links - The links are built by manually publishing 3 Original Articles on 75 different article sites, each published article will have 2 back links to your site. 70% of our Article Sites have PR 2 to 6; all with different C classes IPs.

How to recover from duplicate subdomain penalty?
Two and half a weeks ago, my site was slapped with a penalty -- 60% of organic traffic disappeared over 2-3 days. After investigating we discovered that our site was serving the same content for all subdomains, and Google somehow had two additional subdomains it was crawling and indexing. We solved the issue with 301 redirects to our main site (www) a couple of days after the drop -- about two weeks ago. Our rankings have not recovered, and the subdomains are still indexed per Webmaster Tools. Yesterday we submitted a Reconsideration Request. Will that help? Is there any other way to speed up the process of lifting the penalty? This is the site: http://goo.gl/3DCbl Thank you!

Subdomains
Hi, I have recently started working in-house for a company and one site development was started and completed just as I joined. A new area of the site has been developed, but the developers have developed this new section in php, which cannot be hosted on the windows server the site is running on (they tell me, is this correct?) They want to add the new section as a subdomain - http://newarea.example.co.uk/ whereas I would have preferred the section added as a new subfolder. I plan to ensure that future developments to not have this problem, but is the best solution to work with the subdomain (in this instance it may not be too bad as it is a niche area of the site), or can I redirect the pages hosted on the sub-domain to a subfolder, and is this recommended? Thanks for your time.

SEO-Friendly FAQ Software
Hi, We use Kayako Supportsuite (help desk and FAQ software) installed on our site and it's causing about 80% of all our SEO errors/issues. I've googled a lot and I can't seem to find a FAQ software (we need the ability to maintain and constantly update a large # of questions) that doesn't have duplication (print version, pdf version of each question, etc.), terrible URL structure and an overall very cheesy look. We don't need the helpdesk part, just FAQ functionality. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!
