Hello Folks, I'm curious why my landing page is ranking at #1 on www.google.com.br ( brazil ). keyword: build wizard diablo 3. My lp is above well know domain names such as: wikia.com , blizzard.com , and also above a keyworded domain name: www.wizardbuilds.com/ Is just because my website is focus in brazilian google( .com.br ) or is because my landing page are better than the others( i don't think so)? Thanks.

I understand your approach, but would advise you to consider alternative methods. It provides you no benefit to rank #1 for a term unless people type that term into the search engine. According to Google that term has no traffic at all.
If you rank #10 for a term which has 1000 monthly searches, as a result you may receive ?2% of those 1000 visitors so 20 visitors a month.
Google Analytics allows you to see how much traffic you receive and the exact source of that traffic. Your report for this particular term will be skewed because of this Q&A thread. Try a similar but different phrase. If you earn #1 ranking but after 30 days see zero traffic, your article has absolutely no value despite it's #1 ranking.

Yes, thanks for the comments,
for a entry-level in the SEO community as me, the only way to rank well is starting by long tail.
-
I'd agree that this phrase is long-tail enough to rank without difficulty. His title tag for example is the best match from all other results I can see - that would be a significant factor.
-
There are a couple factors which stand out:
-
your site is a .br ccTLD. A .com can do just as well if it targets brazil but most .com domains are targeting other countries. Your site would receive a significant boost in .br searches.
-
you are searching a very long tail keyword phrase. There are 4 words. Your page title and URL both contain all four words. A check of AdWords shows no search data at all for this phrase.
It is very easy to rank #1 for a search term with no competition. Just create a web page, optimize for a longtail phrase and you will likely be in the #1 spot for the phrase.

Thanks, Yes, that's mine.

I am seeing this page as #1: www.rpgdicas.com.br/builds/diablo-3/wizard.html

Prioritizing SEO Items for a New Website Launch
Hello, a beginner SEO question I'd love to hear your perspective on. We're launching a new site and need to prioritize our SEO work. For a news site with multiple articles published daily, using RSS feeds to push stories to Google News is our top priority. Which item should we focus on next, an XML sitemap for Google, or an article directory based on our internal taxonomy that would provide backlinks for the individual posts to rank? Are XML sitemaps still relevant? Is an article directory a must-have or nice-to-have? Appreciate any suggestions you may have!

Is this Link Black Hat SEO Cloaking or is it OK?
I am a relatively new SEO professional, Can someone please look at this link and tell me if this is white or black hat SEO cloaking practices? http://loghomeconstructionpro.com/ It has an overlay landing page over a html page. I had a partner promote this to me as a proprietary software when really it just looks like cloaking. I want to do my business above board and this doesn't feel right. However, I would like some opinion on it before i pull the plus on my partner. Thanks all for the advice and the help. GD

Do Letters With Accents Affect SEO?
Hi Guys, My company has a franchise of a foreign company that uses an accent/foreign letter in its brand name. We have to refer to this franchise with this symbol on our website to meet their standards. I've done some research on this but its not conclusive, so i was wondering whether anyone here can confirm this for me; Will using the letter with this symbol impair our rankings for this franchise name? Obviously as a UK business people search for this franchise with a regular letter and not the accented one. I would have thought that Google is clever enough to recognise the meaning of the accented letter by now and therefore it wouldn't affect rankings (much). Furthermore, do you think that it would make any difference to use the HTML element to represent the accent rather than copy and pasting the symbol onto our website? I would've thought this would help Google pick it up, but it might not make a difference anyway! Any help is appreciated. Thanks Sam

Using RewriteRule - SEO Implications
Hi There, My client has a website (www.activeadventures.com) which they relaunched in April 2013. The company sells inbound tourism trips to New Zealand, South America and the Himalayas. Previously, the websites for these destinations were on their own domains (activenewzealand.com, activehimalayas.com, activesouthamerica.com). With the launch of the new website those domains were all retired (but had 301 redirects put into place to the new site), and moved into sub directories of the activeadventures.com domain (eg: activeadventures.com/new-zealand). There has been no indication that this strategy has improved organic search results (based on analytics) and in my opinion I believe that having this structure has been detrimental to their results. My opinion is based off the following: Visitors to the websites are coming into the site with a specific destination in mind that they want to travel to. Thus... having the destination in the URL I believe provides more immediate relevancy and should result in a higher CTR. I also feel that having the sites on their own URL's will provide a more concentrated theme for the destination based search phrases. The new site is a custom Joomla build and I want to find the easiest way to keep the current Joomla set up AND move the country specific sections of the site back onto their original URL's. It seems on the face of it that the easiest way to get this done is to use the htaccess file and use "RewriteRule" to push all the relevant pages back onto their original domains. Obviously we will ensure we also cover off pointing the existing 301's from the new site and the old sites to this new structure. My question is, are their any potential negative SEO implications of using the RewriteRule in the htaccess file to achieve this? Many thanks in advance. Kind Regards

Do Abbreviations Hurt SEO Results?
We have certain products that we've abbreviated since it's a bit too long. For example, the word Fair Trade Organic is one of our categories and we abbreviate it to FTO. If I put FTO on our meta tag titles and links instead of the actual word, would that provide a weaker result?

Client with Very Very Bad Onsite SEO
So one of my clients has a really really bad website from the technical perspective. I am talking over 75k in violations and warnings. Granted, the tagging is done well but any other SEO violation you can think of is occurring. In any case, they are building a new website, and I am on a retainer for a couple hours a week to do some link building. I am feeling like I am not getting anywhere. What is your advice? Should I keep on keeping on or advice the client to put SEO on hold until the technical issues are resolved. I feel like all of this link building isn't having the value that it could have with a site like this.

Best Joomla SEO Extensions?
My website is a Joomla based website. My designer is good, but I don't think he knows that much about SEO . . . so I doubt if he added any extensions that can assist with SEO. I assume there are some good ones that can help my site. Does anyone know what/which Joomla extensions are must haves?
