What Q&A Forum Platform Does SEOmoz Use?
-
Completely custom built, or a 3rd party offering that can be customized? One of the most usable forums I've seen!
-
haha thanks!
-
Ha -- SEOmoz should offer a license/white-label of the forum technology. I'm sure there are many others (have not shopped yet) but I like this one.
-
It does make it difficult to have multiple platforms, I'll have to ask a dev though about whether we're planning on moving it all to RoR. I believe PRO is actually built on a different platform even, oy!
-
Exactly.
-
wow, really? awesome! Does it make it harder to have different platforms... or will you guys be switching the main site over to RoR someday?
Thanks Jen!
-
Q&A = the community forum we are interacting on right now, so yes.
-
Thanks! I should have clarified. I meant the community forum that we're interacting on right now -- is that all custom on Ruby too?
-
Q&A is completely custom built in Ruby. Thanks!
-
Actually the main site is built with CakePHP but Q&A is not. This is built in Ruby.
-
Yeah, it's all pretty much right. I believe the RoR token is likely for the Web App. It won't detect cakephp though, because it's a server-side framework and will therefore execute prior to the page being being returned to a browser. That said, I'm actually surprised it detected RoR.
-
Yeah, I should have clarified. I meant the community forum that we're interacting on right now.
-
Their Help Desk is on Zendesk.
If you mean this Q&A? I'm absolutely sure it's custom built with cakephp.
-
Interesting - Zendesk looks pretty powerful. I need to research more -- on the first 1 minute glance it looks more like a customer support engine vs. a forum manager, but I'm sure it can do both.
-
Hi there,
I believe it's Zendesk on an Amazon CloudFront platform, though am sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.
Regards
Simon

Just how accurate is anyone's appraisal on this forum?
When people are discussing what affects their search engine rankings on this particular forum, which has got to be one of the most read on the Internet just how much guesswork is really going on? It seems like God almighty Google works from its own criteria and the rest of us all scrap to guess! I myself in the last week of posted various topics on here and are conflicting reports by so-called experts not that I am being critical for the sake of it. If you to one website and said to all the people on this forum just exactly why is it ranking to a degree for this particular key phrase or not as the case may be would there be any truly accurate knowledgeable answers that will come through and explained the difference? If you have a top 10 of most important things that would influence your rankings that are not guesswork would that be possible to say based on knowledge and expertise? And if so spill the beans what are ? What are the movers and shakers in their particular keyword phrases doing ongoing that's getting them the great results we all want ? Or is the entire subject of how well you rank ultimately not totally understood and only the realms of guesswork based on observation. When I was young I trained as electrician which dealt in facts, it seems like this is not possible with the world of business and search engine rankings?

Seomoz legacy pages?
Hello, I am finding that I miss several of the old seomoz sections. The legacy tools in particular like the visual website comparison. Where is that now? Also, where is the ongoing list of the top 100 sites? So much was lost in the shift to MOZ, I hope some of the good old stuff is still available. Thank you, Nolan

SeoMoz keyword page grader report card
Hi Ive recently 301 redirected old pages/urls to new pages/urls due to a site redesign. The seomoz kw report card is still reporting the old urls though with a significantly reduced score for most pages (i.e. from A's to now C's, from B to now D's etc). Does this mean mozbot is following the 301's & its actually the new urls being graded as such or is it referring to the old pages ? I will be adding the new urls to report card shortly but just interested in clarifying the above since i would have thought, if it is the old pages, they would not be reporting any score for those, or its scoring the new pages ? Many Thanks Dan

What could be the reason that seomoz only shows crawl results for my homepage?
Hi there I am running three campaings for three different sites. The first site crawl is successful with a ful report. However the other two only shows results for the homepage, i.e. only a single page crawled by the mozbot. What could be the reason for this? Thanks, Gerrie

Can I combine SEOmoz Campaigns.
Basically I am in internal SEO. We subscribe to SEOmoz and we have 5 campaign spots. each with their own allocation of keywords. Ideally I only want to track our site and not 4 other's. I've currently setup the campaign a couple of times with different keywords, but it would be much better if I could choose what allocates to what. I.e. 2 campaign tokens to one site and 3 to another or just 5 to one site. Is this possible, and if not why not?

How long after 301 redirect does seomoz toolbar take to update?
I 301 redirected a page to a new URL that is better optimized for my content. However as soon as I did this upon visiting the page, my browser's seomoz toolbar "page authority measurement had fallen to "1" it was previously in the 40's... Does anyone know how long it takes for the seomoz toolbar PA rank to refresh on a 301 redirect? I see where seomoz says the redirected page will retain between 90-99% off its link juice. I'm fine with losing a little if it would mean long term gains in terms of good on-page seo. Any ideas?

Need assistance with tool development using SEOMoz & Google APIs
I don't know where the right place to ask this is, but I work for an SEO agency, and we are looking for someone to help us with development of some tools utilizing the SEOMoz API and probably the Google API as well. Does anyone know where I could find a person with some previous experience with development using these APIs? We've had poor luck just trying to use a developer without specific experience in this area or at least some SEO knowledge. If you're a developer and would like to talk with us, you can contact me directly if you prefer, rather than post your contact info publicly, but I welcome any helpful thoughts or ideas regarding development of SEO tools. Thanks,

SEOmoz API - Links and Anchor Text Calls
Hi, I'm testing out the SEOmoz API - however I'm stuggling to understand the use of the Cols parameter within the "anchor-text" method. I've looped through increasing numbers of "Cols" for a standard query and there just seems to be no logical pattern.

** - Could someone please enlighten me as to how this works?** E.g. of results for query: http://lsapi.seomoz.com/linkscape/anchor-text/www.seomoz.org/?Scope=term_to_page&Sort=domains_linking_page&Cols=1 1Array ( [0] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451138 ) [1] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451144 ) [2] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451131 ) ) 2Array ( [0] => Array ( [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atut] => seo ) ) 3Array ( [0] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451138 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451144 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451131 [atut] => seo ) ) 4Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 ) ) 5Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451138 ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451144 ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451131 ) ) 6Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [atut] => seo ) ) 7Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451138 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451144 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451131 [atut] => seo ) ) 8Array ( [0] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 ) [1] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [atuiu] => 0 ) ) 9Array ( [0] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [aturid] => 86128451138 ) [1] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [aturid] => 86128451144 ) [2] => Array ( [atuiu] => 0 [aturid] => 86128451131 ) ) 10Array ( [0] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atuiu] => 0 [atut] => seo ) ) Links API: Similar confusion here for:
"TargetCols"
"SourceCols"
"LinkCols" The description here http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/13991141/Links API - is a bit vague It appears that the links API spits out everything anyway - that one's less of an issue. So... could anyone explain how the Anchor-text API parameter Cols works?? Cheers!0
