How can I get a website to show up in local search in a major city when it is in the suburbs
-
We did a website for a local landscape company.they are in the outskirts of a major city of Dayton. Most people search landscape company Dayton area. I'm finding landscape companies coming up with lower moz trust and moz ranking.
Some of them had no keywords or page titles. I am signing up on all of the local directories. the site is www.scarffs.com

Thank You Keri,
I suggested this to him but I can show him this response.
This will help confirm. The initials might make it easier to get people to give him a testimony without their name being on the site.

Does your client have customers in Dayton that can be used for testimonials? Then you could put their name or initials along with the city name under the testimonial. That's one way to get nearby cities on the site without seeming spammy.

Hey Anthony,
When someone is searching for this particular landscsape company www.scarffs.com. They are searching Dayton landscapers. Since they are really on the outskirts of Dayton(New Carlisle, Oh). They are not showing up even though they have a better moz rank and moz trust. I am thinking he is going to have to either get an office eith Dayton address or we are going to suggest the paid ad words and listings.
-
Thanks.Yannick,
I have not really found any exceptions, If they are listed near the top it is because they are in Dayton, even if the SEO is bad. I have been thinking it is going to have to be ad words. and paid directories.
But thanks for the suggestions.

Are you talking about "google local" results with place pages? Specifically?
-
I'm guessing you're asking this in the case of let's say.. NYC and your company is in Brooklyn and you'd like to get it listed when people search: Search query + NYC ?
That would be hard... Try finding Yellow page-like sites that only list NYC companies and fill in your details there. Also, check the listings in the local rankings and see (link:www.thedomaininthelocalrankings.com) to see from what listing sites they have links.
Try to find a site that gets ranked which is in the suburbs of some city and see how they did it!

How can a page rank for keywords that it does not have on it?
I have a client that is ranking in the top 10 for several keywords on their homepage. Their site has no purposeful SEO in it, there is barely any text on the homepage at all and none of the text are the keywords it is ranking for.

Copying items from major website - bad?
Hello, I working on a new project that collect news items from websites like Bloomberg and CNN, I'm take the title and the full content of specific articles and publish them under my domain. At the same time my writers publish unique articles on the site. Sure, I'm adding "Source" for each duplicate article with the link to the source. 1. It's risky?

Website Updates
What's considered a safe number when it comes to making on-site seo changes/updates for pages of a website (refreshing copy, changing title tags, optimizing images, etc)? 1 a day? 5 a day? We need to make these changes but we don't want Google to freak out and have it have the opposite effect on our ranking.

Moz shows page has no meta description but it does
Hi We recently worked on optimising one of our product pages, we created a new meta description, new unique content and a ensured it was optimised for our keyword. Despite all of this its ranking is still significantly lower than competitors eventhough the page authority is as good as theirs. I have just noticed that Moz crawl diagnostics is showing it up as having no meta description - but it does! when you check the source you see:http-equiv="description" content="Buy the robust and reliable Canon imageRUNNER 2525 from Copyfaxes. Learn more about the Canon 2525 before you buy." /> The page is: http://copyfaxes.com/product/2552/Canon-ImageRunner-2525-Digital-Copier I would appreciate any ideas.

My website ranking recently dropping - why?
Hi all, I am a photographer and do my own website and links etc. Website is: http://www.mckayphotography.com.au I have enjoyed good google rankings for my main keyword 'wedding photography sydney' for many years, and even recovered after taking a hit from the penguin (may 2012) update. But the last month has seen a steady drop from around 2nd - 4th down to now 10th. I have analyzed my site using all the moz tools and on most counts eg moz rank and moz trust I am ahead of my competitor sites....but still rank under them on google. So I would greatly appreciate on advice people could give on getting my ranking back up again! Thanks in advance Darryn
