Is this splitting my authority or link juice?
-
Hi
Using seomoz i am getting told that a 302 temporary redirect is occurring on some of my pages for instance.
http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/
Then redirects here
http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/default.phuse
is this splitting my page authority because of the temporary redirect?
I just want to make sure i have fully understood what's happening before i go to the company who designed and developed our site as i am convinced this is hurting my rankings.
Thanks
-
No, it's still a redirect. See attached image clearly stating a 302 Temporary Redirect from http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/ to http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/default.phuse
If your developer still doesn't believe you then have them verify it themselves with this web based HTTP header check tool ~> http://www.webconfs.com/http-header-check.php

Hello
This is the response i got from the web developer.
"Additionally, about the "redirects", Our developer has explained that they are not actually redirects. For example take http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/default.phuse. If you enter http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/ into a browser then it appears to redirect to http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/default.phuse because http://www.eco-environments.co.uk/solar-power/ does not exist as a page within the site. Rather, it is a folder that contains the sub pages for solar power hence why it shows the first page in the folder which is deafult.phuse. This is why it appears to redirect but we have not done any redirects. I think this is a misunderstanding so there is little we can do to help other than provide an explanation of why it behaves the way it does."
Is this me or is it still a redirect?
Thanks

Thank You for your responses.
I thought this was the case just needed it confirming. Unfortunately I have the small problem of our web design company to accept there is a problem and solve it.

The 301 redirect also tell the search engine where the NEW location address of this page is (the final page you want to have ranked) while passing all other page value from the links built to the page exist.
-
Yes, using a 302 Temporary Redirect is hurting your page authority because these types of server response codes do NOT pass any link juice. To cultivate all inbound/internal link equity you want to use a 301 Permanent Redirect instead. With a 301 redirect you retain about 90% of the link value.

It certainly will not help, but may be is not hurting too much

Hi, I really need to know what happens when a company or domain (a) acquires another company with domain (b) with its links pointing to yet another location (c). Does company a then have redirects to c?

URL Value: Menu Links vs Body Content Links
Hi All, I'm a little confused. I have read a number of articles from authority sites that give mixed signals over the importance of menu links vs body content links. It is suggested that whilst all menu links spread link juice equally, Google does not see them as favourably. Inserting a link within the body will add more link juice value to the desired page. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Mark

Wikipedia links - any value?
Hello everyone. We recently posted some of our research to Wikipedia as references in the "External Links" section. Our research is rigorous and has been referenced by a number of universities and libraries (an example: https://www.harborcompliance.com/information/company-suffixes.php). Anyway, I'm wondering if these Wikipedia links have any value beyond of course adding to the Wiki page's information. Thanks!

Link Building with a Scholarship
One of my clients is using a scholarship to build links. We have a nofollow PR campaign getting ready to start and are doing some social marketing for the scholarship page on the site. We are also trying to get backlinks from highschools and colleges that link to scholarship opportunities. So far this has been a slow process. Does anybody have any advice for speeding any of this up? Has somebody ever done a campaign like this before? Is there some kind of database with financial aid contact info for a lot of schools? I contact a lot of schools and always tend to get put on the backburner.

Site Wide Link Situation
Hi- We have clients who are using an e-commerce cart that sits on a separate domain that appears to be providing site wide links to our clients websites. Therefore, would you recommend disallowing the bots to crawl/index these via a robots.txt file, a no follow meta tag on the specific pages the shopping cart links are implemented on or implement no follow links on every shopping cart link? Thanks!

Switching to masked affiliate links
Hi there, I run a content affiliate website where I introduce products in articles and then link to merchants where the user can buy the respective product. Currently I am using regular affiliate links here with the "nofollow" attribute. With growing size of the site, I would like to switch to masked affiliate links, so instead of a link like "jdoqocy.com/click-123" I want to use "mydomain.com/recommend/123". My question here is: When switching to masked affiliate links, does it makes sense to also convert all the older unmasked affiliate links? If yes, what would be the best way to do that - Convert all old links at once or convert them over time (e.g. over a few month)? Currently about 2/3 of my site's outbound links are unmasked, external affiliate links. So I am afraid that changing this relatively large share of links from unmasked external affiliate links to masked links doenst look natural at all... Thank you for your advice!
