Planning a Link Building Campaign: Which keywords to focus on?
-
Okay, so looking at my ranking tab for my campaign. It shows the increase in traffic from my keywords, ranks, etc.
My goal is to increase traffic, thereby sales. I am trying to plan a link building campaign (aside from the onpage optimization) and get as many keywords within the top 10 as possible:
-
Do I start focusing on a certain number of keywords that are on page 2 (lets say 10) and try to build links to get them within the top 10. Then pick another 10 keywords?
-
Do I pick a variety of keywords from various pages?
What is the smartest way of trying to optimize campaign keywords as far as linkbuilding?
-
-
You also have to be fairy knowledgeable with Adwords to make it work, aside from the resources.
I have a lot of experience with SEO, but a limited amount in SEM.
-
by the way, on the serp organic, i can't say that my strategy is 100% sure, and you can't tell me yours, because my latest project, i was investing on real estate section, more than 45,000$/Monthly(switzerland) on google adwords.
Now, i have optimized the website for this keyword on natural search, maybe i have 8-12% less visitors than top#1 adwords, but i am saving 40.000$ and 5000$ monthly i invested and i am investing, on nespapers, social marketing, some directories, premium press, authors etc...
From my side, its a very good place the google adwords to start, but with time, i will optimize more inner pages for third party keywords etc.. what to do brian, i like only to share my experience and skills, and it works, your too, it's not any problem.
Thanks .

The problem with using adwords as a comparison is that Keywords on adwords are very different to those in natural search, and user behaviour post-click is more different still.
You'll get a really strong indication of potential traffic volume, but in itself it doesn't answer that many other questions. Definitely has it's uses, but limitations too.
That's what my 15 years doing this tells me anyway
-
not to try but to do, the most effective tactic is this through google adwords. i tell you from my experience more than 6years.
-
If you want to look at it in terms of what is most achievable try looking more at how hard page 1 is, rather than where you are currently at.
If you are on page 5, but page 1 is full of badly targeted or backlinked sites that term may still bring a result faster than a phrase where you are already on page 2, but the competition is tough on page 1.
To assess that you're looking at how optimised their pages are (seomoz onpage optimisation tool), how much authority the competing pages have and what their anchor text looks like. That should give you a good indication of how much of a fight you have on your hands.
-
That is a good idea. I will try that.
-
The keywords I have selected are all relevant. It is just that some are less competitive, and are on page 2 as opposed to page 5. I would like all of them to rank within the top 10. So I want to figure out the best way to plan this as far as link building.
Let's say I can build 100 one way links a month. Should I focus squarely on the ones on page2, get them to page1, and repeat?
How have you gone about prioritizing link building for keywords based on difficulty.
-
hi,
I suggest you, to start Adwords Campaign on google adwords.
1.
What do you write when you like to find the products like your on google?
Write some keywords from your head, and ask your friends too, take some keywords and make a list.
2.
Google Keyword Tool. ( on google ads )
Here you can use two different tactics:
A. Scan your Website for relevant Keywords. ( google take automatically your relevant keywords from your website ).
B. Give your main keywords for a product on the box there, and take ideas from google.
Google generate you lot of keywords idea for your niche, based on google results database,(what users are typing on google-box when they search your product).
Select the: **Exact Match Keyword. **
Take the keywords with more searches per Month and export to the list.
3.
Start some AD Campaigns.
After some days, you will see which are generating traffic and sales(conversions).
Export this keywords, take 1-3 of them, the best of all, max.3 keyword at the begining. and start doing link building.
-
I'd change the priorities a bit from "My goal is to increase traffic, thereby sales" to "My goal is to increase sales". It's a semantic change but helps you avoid one of the big SEO traps and helps keep you focused.
So, with that new goal in mind what will people who are going to buy your product search for? Those are the terms I would hit first. Forget traffic only terms, brand building, product awareness and the rest for now unless you have a big budget and focus on the terms that are going to make the till ring!
Even if those phrases are not the ones you are ranking best for those high converting phrases are gong to be your bread and butter in money terms so the sooner you start focusing on them the better.
When researching those terms be careful to think of the intent of someone using them. For instanc, if you were selling tents the obviousl choice might be "camping", but the intention of someone doing that search could be almost anything. "3 berth tents" might be a much lower volume term, but might be used by people much closer to making that till ring!
Targeted traffic terms have an important part to play. However I tend to lean towards the money terms at the outset and start justifying my fees.

Best way to link to 1000 city landing pages from index page in a way that google follows/crawls these links (without building country pages)?
Currently we have direct links to the top 100 country and city landing pages on our index page of the root domain.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
I would like to add in the index page for each country a link "more cities" which then loads dynamically (without reloading the page and without redirecting to another page) a list with links to all cities in this country.
I do not want to dillute "link juice" to my top 100 country and city landing pages on the index page.
I would still like google to be able to crawl and follow these links to cities that I load dynamically later. In this particular case typical site hiearchy of country pages with links to all cities is not an option. Any recommendations on how best to implement?0 -
Disavowing Affiliate Links - Domain or Actual Affiliate Link?
Hi everyone, Hope you're all having a great day, I have a question in regards to a site which I am about to disavow. Over the past 2 months a certain page of ours has dropped from the 2nd page, all the way to the 7th. I haven't been able to diagnose why, however, yesterday I discovered that a site has been using an Lafitte link on his sidebar, the link is a do-follow. Webmaster tools indicates that this site has linked to us over 24,000 times. I understand that this link could potentially ruin our rankings - however, in terms of disavowing, what is the best approach here? Do I disavow their domain, or do I disavow the actual affiliate link also? The link is placed within an image, once the image is clicked it redirects you to another link for a second then redirects to our money site. We have got in touch with our affiliate program and they have made the link a no-follow, however, we are pretty certain this site is causing issues for us and we want to go ahead and disavow. Thanks, Brett

Internal Linking - Can You Over Do It?
Hi, One of the sites I'm working on has a forum with thousands of pages, amongst thousands of other pages. These pages produce lots of organic search traffic... 200,000 per month. We're using a bit of custom code to link relevant words and phrases from various discussion threads to hopefully related discussion pages. This generates thousands of links and up to 8 in-context links per page. A page could have anywhere from 200 to 3000 words in one to 50+ comments. Generally, a page with 200 words would have fewer of these automatically generated links, just because there are fewer terms naturally on the page. Is there any possible problem with this, including but not limited to some kind of internal anchor text spam or anything else? We do it to knit together pages for link juice and hopefully user experience... giving them another page to go to. The pages we link to are all our pages that produce or we hope to produce organic search traffic from. Thanks! ....Darcy

Questions About Link Detox
Greetings: In April of 2014 an SEO firm ran a link removal campaign (identified spammy links and uploaded a disavow). The overall campaign was ineffective and MOZ domain rank has fallen to 24 from about 30 in the last year and traffic is 20% lower. I purchased a basic package for Link Detox and ran a report today (see enclosed) to see if toxic links could be contributing to our mediocre rankings. As a novice I have a few questions for you regarding this the use of Link Detox: -We scored a domain wide detox risk of 1,723. The site has referring root domains with 7113 links to our site. 121 links were classified as high audit priority. 56 as medium audit priority. 221 links were previously disavowed and we uploaded a spreadsheet containing the names of the previously disavowed links. We had LinkDetox include an analysis of no-follow links as they recommend this. Is our score really bad? If we remove the questionable links should we see some benefit in ranking? -Some of the links we disavowed last year are still linking to our site. Is it worthwhile to include those links again in our new disavow file? -Prior to filing a disavow we will request that Webmaster remove offending links. LinkDetox offers a package called Superhero for $469.00 that automates the process. Does this package effectively help with the entire process of writing and tracking the removal requests? Do you know of any other good alternatives? -A feature called "Boost" is included in the LinkDetox Super Hero package. It is suppose to expedite Google's processing of the disavow file. I was told by the staff at Link Detox that with Boost Google will process the disavow within a week. Do you have any idea if this claim is valid??? It would be great if it were true. -We never experienced any manual penalty from Google. Will uploading a disavow help us under the circumstances? Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it!!! What link building techniques would you recommend for a dating site?
I am working on adding more content to the site (content marketing, trying to attract natural links), and this includes a blog. On-site optimization will be done based on good keyword research, and after that I will be working on link building for the site. I will pull backlink data of competing best performing dating websites, google-wise, and try to get some links from there. What other link building strategies / techniques could be good for this? Thanks.

Outbound link to PDF vs outbound link to page
If you're trying to create a site which is an information hub, obviously linking out to authoritative sites is a good idea. However, does linking to a PDF have the same effect? e.g Linking to Google's SEO starter guide PDF, as opposed to linking to a google article on SEO. Thanks!
