Does onsite content updates have an effect on SERPs?
-
Hi,
Some might see this as a very (VERY) basic question but wanted to drill down into it anyway.
Onsite content: Lets say you have a service website and attached to it is a blog, the blog gets updated every other day with 500 words of relevant content, containing anchor text links back to a relevant page on the main website.
Forget about social signals and natural links being built from the quality content, will adding the content with anchor text links be more beneficial then using that content to generate links through guest blogging?
10 relevant articles onsite with anchor links, or 10 guest posts on other websites?
I guess some might say 5 onsite and 5 guest posts.

What I like to do is occasionally research, work on, and perfect a solution to a problem.
Then I will have plenty of material for both internal and external content. You can first write a blog post or article on your site. And edit it a bit and have it looking good.
Then show it as the example to other webmasters and podcast hosts.
They get an idea of how you feel, know if they want your content on the matter on their site and then there is a natural page to link to for any story they do on you.
It seems like a good way to go and this then has otehr strong pages with links to you that are ontopic, relevant, and different content than the first article.
The second, third, or fourth article get easier and easier to write. And doing a podcast is a walk in the park after all the research and reporting.

Thanks nakul,
I do use guest blogging as my main way of building SERPs as ive had some great success with it in the past and current.
But I think it's time to start mixing it up with social signals, directory subs etc, I dont expect this kind of link building to do much it might just open my link profile up a bit and fingers crossed the diversity alone helps the SERPs.

Depending upon your link profile and how you currently rank in the SERPS, your best best is to do both. YOu are right thinking about it...both internal links as well as external links are important and some strong guest posts from niche blogs would certainly help. I would also not overdo just the guest posts kinds of links. Do other kinds of link building as well. For example, provide a link to this article code on your blog, which might invoke readers and other webmasters possibly linking to you from their blogs or discussing your article on a niche forum.
I hope that helps.

Content Help for Dealers
What type of content would anyone recommend writing for power sports dealers (ATV dealers, Motorcycle Dealers, Jet Ski Dealers, etc) or outdoor power equipment dealers (tractors, lawn mowers, etc) when they're website consists mainly of inventory pages? These dealers are trying to improve brand awareness, but creating content that answers searchers' questions/intent is tough and I want to make sure I am on the right track. I'm trying to create unique content. I am optimizing existing pages and then so far I've been writing brand pages, describing the brands, advertising that they carry this brand, creating links and call-to-actions to the inventory pages, etc. I want to first create authority and crawlable content for this brand. From there, I have been trying to create product category pages, describing the top products under that brand and working to creating product comparison content instead of simply describing it. Why Buy type of stuff, but that gets tricky to make unique. Any suggestions on unique content or better strategies versus just brand descriptions, product descriptions/comparisons, etc? I also want to make sure that creating multiple pages focused on one brand and an overall category isn't cannibalization of a topic. Obviously each page is slightly different and gradually going into more detail, but I want to make sure. Any recommendations on types of content or different strategies would be helpful! Also - I should mention that I am limited by the platform. I cannot create/utilize a blog page or anything like that. Thanks!

Content Below the Fold
Hi I wondered what the view is on content below the fold? We have the H1, product listings & then some written content under the products - will Google just ignore this? I can't hide it under a tab or put a lot of content above products - so I'm not sure what the other option is? Thank you

What are your thoughts on Content Automation?
Hi, I want to ask forum members’ opinion on content automation. And before I raise the eyebrows of many of you with this question, I’d like to state I am creating content and doing SEO for my own website so I’m not looking to cut corners with spammy tactics that could hurt my website from an organic search perspective. The goal is to automate pages in the areas of headings, Meta Titles, Meta Descriptions, and perhaps a paragraph of content. More importantly, I’d like these pages to add value to the users experience so the question is…. How do I go about automating the pages, and more specifically, how is meta title, meta descriptions etc. automated? I’d also like to hear from people that recommend steering clear of any form of content automation. I hope my question isn’t too bit vague and I look forward to hearing from other Mozzers. Regards, Russell in South Africa

But some strange things are going with our site for example Traffic for some pages has been dropped(over 100 position) overnight and recover. (graph is attached for a page). We have dropped(over 100 position) on all keywords for a page except a single keyword (staying on first or 2n position). Our home page is not ranking in top 100 position for title keywords. Is our website under any type of filter or penalized by Google?. What is your opinion about our internal link structure and content? URL http://bit.ly/rvxzDm and graph for this page is attached for sample data. looking for your opinion and suggestions. Thanks IXT0m.png

Need help identifying why my content rich site was hurt by the Panda Update.
Hi - I run a hobby related niche new / article / resource site (http://tinyurl.com/4eavaj4) which has been heavily impacted by the Panda update. Honestly I have no idea why my Google rankings dropped off. I've hired 2 different SEO experts to look into it and no one has been able to figure it out. My link profile is totally white hat and stronger then the majority of my competitors, I have 4000+ or so pages of unique, high quality content, am a Google News source, and publish about 5 new unique articles every day. I ended up deleting a 100 or so thin video pages on my site, did some url reorganization (using 301s), and fixed all the broken links. That appeared to be helping as my traffic was returning to normal. Then the bottom dropped out again. Since Saturday my daily traffic has dropped by 50%. I am really baffled at this point as to what to do so any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Mike [email protected]
