The use of subdomains to improve SEO?
-
A clients website which provide a number of trade services which have a page for each service they provide for example: carpentry or electrician or plumbing etc. currently these pages are found at domain.co.uk/bathrooms/ bathrooms.html
I am trying to optmise each page better as they are competing with other sites who for example sell bathrooms rather than bathroom installers or plumbers.
As part of the on page optimisation I plan to change the page names and directory structure.
I had an idea to split the website down into subdomains for various sections i.e for all their services
- Create a sub domain such as http://plumber.domain.co.uk
2.) upload the relevant content (in this example the plumbing page) to the sub domain location
3.) correct all the links to absolute URLs for each sub domain /
Will this help target better use of keywords in the URL in terms of SEO efforts ?
hope it makes sense
thanks
Darren

This is a technique I would only consider if your clients site is already highly authoritative (high PR, DA). Essentially, your splitting up one domain into a handful different subdomained websites.
When you have a very strong site and you split it into subdomains, you increase your chance of getting multiple spots in the SERPs. When you split a weak site into subdomains, you water down your authority and it will take extra link building to get each subdomain to rank really well.
Perhaps a better strategy would be to do a bit more keyword research and figure out what keywords to really go after with the current URL structure. Instead of going after something like 'bathroom remodeling' maybe you would be better served going after 'bristol custom bathroom remodeling' or something more specific. Sometimes you have to carve out a niche and get some links before tackling a more difficult keyword.

Yoast or Premium SEO Pack?
Which one is better Yoast or premium SEO pack excluding that one is paid & other is free. Because when we are doing SEO $39 doesn't make a huge difference as compared to the work we do right? Which one will you suggest out of the two?

SEO Monthly Strategy
Out of curiosity, do any Mozzers use a monthly spreadsheet style SEO strategy that is set on a daily basis like this: Day 1 - purchase/write 3 articles
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | fertilefrog
Day 2 - comment on 5 blogs
Day 3 - upload article 1
Day 4 - directory submissions
Day 5 - blog promotion
Day 6 - etc..... If so, do you find this to be the most effective way of working, with this rigid structure?0 -
Subdomain or subfolder for each country
Hi all I have a great .com domain but the cctlds are not available so I plan on using the .com for all the countries and languages. What is the best approach for SEO: subdomains like wikipedia does (de.greatdomain.com) or subfolders (greatdomain.com/de)? I know this question comes up frequently on other websites but I would like to hear the Moz forum.

Microsites: Subdomain vs own domains
I am working on a travel site about a specific region, which includes information about lots of different topics, such as weddings, surfing etc. I was wondering whether its a good idea to register domains for each topic since it would enable me to build backlinks. I would basically keep the design more or less the same and implement a nofollow navigation bar to each microsite. e.g.

weddingsbarcelona.com
surfingbarcelona.com or should I rather go with one domain and subfolders: barcelona.com/weddings
barcelona.com/surfing I guess the second option is how I would usually do it but I just wanted to see what are the pros/cons of both options. Many thanks!0 -
We're currently not using schemas on our website. How important is it? And are websites across the globe using it?
Schemas looks like an important thing when it comes to structuring your website and ensuring the crawl bots get all the details. I've been reading a lot of articles around the web and most of them are saying that schemas are important but very few websites are using it. Why so? Are the schemas on schema.org there to stay or am I wasting my time?
