Good Link VS Bad Bounce Rate what wins?
-
Hi all, this is only my second question on SEOmoz since becoming a member over three months ago so sorry if it’s a little bit basic.
As small part of one of our websites promotion we have been giving really good advice on good authority blogs/forums related to our product website.
One of the sites we have offered advice on is from a US website and we added a link to our guide for the problem to our UK site.
In hindsight the product solution is not branded the same in the US so our bounce rate is over 90%.
So the question is when is a link from a related site not worth the high percentage bounce rate?

John,
I applaud you for already doing as much as you have been regarding providing value when you post to forums and blogs. That alone is a big deal. So now it's just about tuning the process.

Hi Alan
Thanks for the fast response and as always the great reception I am finding from the community.
I probably thought as much as in the link was not worth the bounce rate, but in all honestly I did not realise it was a US site at the time.
I use a search to find forums/blogs relevant to our site topic and offer sound advice for the problem related to the question (sometimes with a link). As a small part of our marketing this really has got some great results especially when other people in the forum back the advice up with their own experience.
Really will take more care in the future to make sure the advice is really relevant to the user.

John,
Welcome to the Moz community! The more questions people ask, regardless of skill level, the better the quality of the work and the more everyone wins...
Generally speaking, high bounce rates due to people not finding what they expect is not worth the effort to get a link. The bigger the site the link comes from (and in turn, supposedly, the more clicks on that link), the more negative the impact of that bounce rate will be.
Not only do you send negative signals to search engines regarding relevance, you do so because it's a bad user experience.
This is why obtaining high quality links needs to factor in relevance and stickyness after click.
If it's just one link, it's not so critical usually, because it's not reflective of a larger pattern. However if you can get that link changed to point to more relevant content, that would help. Otherwise, move on and focus more on the quality of the site the content is on, combined with the page it's pointing to.

Gathering links
There are numerous "Ultimate Guides" to linkbuilding, outreach, etc., and they are all written to teach you the art of linkbuilding. The only thing these guides don't tell you is that following them takes a massive amount of time and doesn't guarantee to get good links at all. We're all in online marketing, and maybe we online marketeers are familiar with linking to other websites, posts that we like, etc. and maybe that's why we can write these guides but in other niches it really doesn't work that way 🙂 I'm wondering what techniques/tactics/strategies you guys are using in less straightforward niches to get quality links to your blogposts. To give you an idea, we launched an article a couple of weeks ago targeting a very competitive keyword. The article got shared over 100 times on LinkedIn/Twitter/etc. and already ranking pretty good, but REAL backlinks are still missing. How to get people to link to that article?

Link value from high authority domains vs low authority domains. How big is the difference?
Hi Guys. Could you send me in the direction of some quality information on link value. i.e) How much 'link juice' do you get from high authority domains vs low authority domains. Also, I understand the Moz value for DA is logarithmic, not linear. Does this also mean that a link from a site with a really high DA would be exponentially higher value than a site with a low DA. You know....like orders of magnitude better? Cheers in advance, I love you guys 😉 Isaac.

What are inbound links worth after Panda and Penguin, since a site ranks for the NATIONAL keyword "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS!?!?
ARE INBOUND LINKS TODAY ALMOST WORTHLESS??!!? After having been the KING of SEO, down to the toilet? Today I got a great sample from a fellow SEO professional showing a site, rockymountainfurniture.com rank for "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS FROM 3 DOMAINS and a domain trust of 14!!!! ON A NATIONAL, VALUABLE, HIGH QUERY VOLUME KEYWORD!! I was stunned, but is this the "NEW SEO WORLD" we live in, so we should skip spending hundreds of hours on link building? There are over 32 different types of inbound links but this is much MORE than a radical change, this is turning SEO as it was up-side-down. Any input, thoughts, ideas?

Blogroll links vs. in author's byline
So, I have the following dilemma. I have certain amount on my budget and I'm thinking where to invest it better. Would you recommend obtaining blogroll links or focus on links that put in author's byline (for instance when you write a guest post). Could you also explain why you think so? 🙂 Thanks beforehand.

Value of Inbound Links to Pages With a lot of Outbound Links
Suppose you have a resource page of the Top 50 Awesome Sites in your niche. Since there are about 50 outbound links, then I would think there will be less Page Rank being passed to internal pages from internal links on the resource page. Since you are getting less PR passed to internal pages, are there other ways the inbound links can be beneficial, such as increasing the diversity of links of your domain? Sites like SEO Optimise seem to create a lot of Top 30 Resources lists and I have read that they think it is a strong tactic.
