Google sitemap just for a part of site?
-
Hi,
I am about reorganize (content and seo-wise) a part of a larger site and I wondered if it is possible to use a Google sitemap just for some but not all pages of a site?
Does anyone know if this has any impact on pages that are not included in the sitemap?
Thanks

You can add multiple sitemaps in Google Webmaster Tools, that's not a problem. So you could, I suppose, add a sitemap of just your new pages.
In my opinion though, I think you should just generate a new one at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com and upload and resubmit it. That would work just as well as a part sitemap.
If your site is really large though, maybe the part sitemap is the right answer, but going forward you'll have to remember which bits appear in which sitemap so you don't have overlap or accidental omissions.
Hope this helps.

Hi Martin,
no it's not about excluding pages.
I am working on a part of a larger site and I'd just like to see my changes to be crawled as fast as possible, that's all. For that reason I thought about submitting a sitemap just for that part (doing it for the whole site is too time consuming at the moment).
But I just wondered if it's possible. If not I just wait until Googlebot has done crawling the new pages.

To be honest a sitemap.xml is predominantly there to inform search engines of all your site's pages and their importance in your structure.
It's helpful to keep this up to date, so that the right pages are appearing quickly in the SERPs.
However a site with the right content in robots.txt and/or robots META tags will get crawled and, if the site is well structured and the internal links are all present, then all the pages of a site will end up in the SERPS anyway.
My question back to you would be - are there pages that you don't want to appear in Google's results and if so, why? The reason I ask this is that usually it's about excluding pages from search engines rather than making sure pages are included (assuming site structure and internal links are good).

Sitemap.xml Site multilang
HI all, I have some questions about multilang sitemap.xml. So, we use the same domain subdirectories with gTLDs example.com/pt-br/

example.com/us/
example.com/es/ How should I do the sitemap.xml in this case? I thought of three alternatives: Should I do a sitemap_index.xml to each lang and make categories for these sitemaps? Examples:
http://www.example.com/pt-br/sitemap_index.xml
http://www.example.com/en/sitemap_index.xml
http://www.example.com/es/sitemap_index.xml Should I do only one sitemap_index.xml covering all categories of all languages ? Examples:
http://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml
http://www.example.com/pt-br/sitemap_categorias_1.xml
http://www.example.com/es/sitemap_categorias_1.xml
http://www.example.com/us/sitemap_categorias_1.xml Should I do a sitemap setting all multilang? <url><loc>http://www.example.com/us/</loc>
<xhtml:link <br="">rel="alternate"
hreflang="es"
href="http://www.example.com/pt-br/"
/>
<xhtml:link <br="">rel="alternate"
hreflang="us"
href="http://www.example.com/us/"
/>
<xhtml:link <br="">rel="alternate"
hreflang="pt-br"
href="http://www.example.com/pt-br/"
/></xhtml:link></xhtml:link></xhtml:link></url> Thanks for any advice.0 -
If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect?
If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect? If this scenario requires a 301 redirect no matter what, I might as well update the URL to be a little more keyword rich for the page while I'm at it. However, since these pages are ranking well I'd rather not lose any authority in the process and keep the URL just stripped of the ".html" (if that's possible). Thanks for you help! Does Google differentiate between a site with spammy link building practices from a victim of a negative SEO attack?
I've be tasked with figuring out how to recover our rankings as we are likely being hurt by an algorithmic penalty. I have no idea if this was the workings of a previously hired SEO or the result of negative SEO, **how does Google differentiate between a site with bad/spammy link building practices from a victim of a negative SEO attack? **

Google site: operator showing only 30 results for whatever website you may like, omitting the rest
site:wikipedia.org site:seomoz.org site:nytimes.com site:WHATEVER YOU PUT HERE 🙂 is currently always showing just 3 SERP pages and the well known ugly message: In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 30 already displayed.

If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included. Any idea what's going on?!!? Ongoing update?0 -
Redirect from old wordpress site to new php site? Best approach
Hi I have two websites one legacy site done in wordpress the other in php. However I would like to merge the two together and remove the wordpress site. However it has a good link profile and the pages rank well. What is the best approach to do a 301 redirect from the old site with all its pages pointing to the homepage of the new site? If so what's the best way to do this in wordpress? Many thanks

Google has not been visiting my site
Hi I am working on a site at the moment http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com and i had the site using a different template and in the search engines for the search term cheap flights gatwick we were fourth and for the term holiday magazine we were 12th in google but now we are not even in google on the first page for the search terms. But now after changing the template in joomla our rankings have gone out of the window. It took me about a day to sort out the site with the new template so i was not expecting any problems with the search engines but for some reason there is. If you put into the search engine www.cheapflightsgatwick.com then you will see that google has not visited the site for four days and also it is not showing the description and instead it is showing details about joomla. Can anyone let me know if there is anything i need to do to sort this out and why google is taking so long to visit my site
