Google Knowledge Graph related question
-
I have a client who is facing age discrimination in the film industry. (Big surprise there.) The problem is, when you type in his name, Google's new Knowledge Graph displays a brief bio about him to the right of the search results. This bio snippet includes his year of birth. Wikipedia is credited as the source for the bio information about him, and yet, his Wikipedia entry doesn't include his age or birth date. Neither does his iMDb bio. So the question is, How can he figure out where Google is getting that birthdate from? He wants to try and remove it, not falsify it. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Great answer, Ryan. And yes, I did a Google search on the client's name and his year of birth. After some digging, I did find a Freebase article on him that listed his year of birth, so I simply edited the date out. We'll see if that works.
Thanks so much for your fast and thorough response!

http://support.google.com/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2620861
Here are just some of the sources for this web of information:
- online resources like Wikipedia
- subject-specific resources like Weather Underground for weather information and the World Bank for economic statistics
- publicly available data from Freebase.com, a free and open database of over 24 million things, including movies, books, TV shows, celebrities, locations, companies, and more
- Google search data (used to measure the popularity of a subject and help decide what information people most want to see)
There are two other official sources of information regarding the Knowledge Graph that I am aware of:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/introducing-knowledge-graph-things-not.html
http://www.google.com/insidesearch/features/search/knowledge.html
Both are more promotional based information sources and lack any details about the mechanics or sources involved.
I presume you have tried searching google for your client's name + date of birth and similar queries?
There is a (longshot) chance the Report a Problem feature can be used by you to share the problem your client is facing and ask the information be removed. I have a difficult time thinking Google is willing to remove accurate information.

What about a No-record backlink in the eye of Google
I have an uncertainty - when I make a backlink as a piece of SEO in some site when I reviewed similar couple of days after. It hasn't filed and I checked its robots record. It appearing Client specialist: Mediapartners-Google Disallow: User-Agent: * Disallow: However, is this make any backlink uphold or only this with the end goal of not ordering in google. I make it straightforward - "Is this sort of backlink creation my site My Music Goals uphold my SEO action or Not?" In this No-record site.

Why has Google stopped indexing my content?
Mystery of the day! Back on December 28th, there was a 404 on the sitemap for my website. This lasted 2 days before I noticed and fixed. Since then, Google has not indexed my content. However, the majority of content prior to that date still shows up in the index. The website is http://www.indieshuffle.com/. Clues: Google reports no current issues in Webmaster tools Two reconsideration requests have returned "no manual action taken" When new posts are detected as "submitted" in the sitemap, they take 2-3 days to "index" Once "indexed," they cannot be found in search results unless I include url:indieshuffle.com The sitelinks that used to pop up under a basic search for "Indie Shuffle" are now gone I am using Yoast's SEO tool for Wordpress (and have been for years) Before December 28th, I was doing 90k impressions / 4.5k clicks After December 28th, I'm now doing 8k impressions / 1.3k clicks Ultimately, I'm at a loss for a possible explanation. Running an SEOMoz audit comes up with warnings about rel=canonical and a few broken links (which I've fixed in reaction to the report). I know these things often correct themselves, but two months have passed now, and it continues to get progressively worse. Thanks, Jason

How to correct a google canonical issue?
So when I initially launched my website I had an issue where I didn't properly set my canonical tags and all my pages got crawled. Now in looking at the search engine results I see a number of the pages that were meant to be canonical tagged to the correct page showing up in the results. What is the best way to correct this issue with google? Also I noticed that while initially I was ranking well for the main pages, now those results have disappeared entirely and deeper in the rankings I am finding the pages that were meant to be canonical tagged. Please Help.

Penalized by google. How to find out?
Our webpage performs very bad on some keywords relating to one product. At the SeoMoz-ranking page i can se we are number 9 but we have the highest (higher than our competitors) rating in almost every category (at least 25 of 30) on the keyword difficulty report. How do i find out why this is so, or if we have been penalized by google? On other search-engines (yahoo, bing etc) we are number one! And we have the highest pagerank among the competitors...

Robots.txt questions...
All, My site is rather complicated, but I will try to break down my question as simply as possible. I have a robots.txt document in the root level of my site to disallow robot access to /_system/, my CMS. This looks like this: # /robots.txt file for http://webcrawler.com/
Technical SEO | | Horizon
# mail [email protected] for constructive criticism **User-agent: ***
Disallow: /_system/ I have another robots.txt file in another level down, which is my holiday database - www.mysite.com/holiday-database/ - this is to disallow access to /holiday-database/ControlPanel/, my database CMS. This looks like this: **User-agent: ***
Disallow: /ControlPanel/ Am I correct in thinking that this file must also be in the root level, and not in the /holiday-database/ level? If so, should my new robots.txt file look like this: # /robots.txt file for http://webcrawler.com/
# mail [email protected] for constructive criticism **User-agent: ***
Disallow: /_system/
Disallow: /holiday-database/ControlPanel/ Or, like this: # /robots.txt file for http://webcrawler.com/
# mail [email protected] for constructive criticism **User-agent: ***
Disallow: /_system/
Disallow: /ControlPanel/ Thanks in advance. Matt0 -
