Good idea to point all registered domains to main site?
-
We have close to 60 domains that we are considering pointing to our main site. Is this type of a redirect a good idea? We have a number of domains that are industry related but do not have our brand name in the domain. Should we point these sites to our homepage as well?
Pros/Cons?
Examples:
<colgroup><col width="201"></colgroup>

SEO benefit? Nah, nothing.
But redirecting the .com and .co.uk sites is probably better for the customer. I'm speaking as someone who used to hate when typing in twitter.co.uk sent me to a crappy MFA page (but somehow never remembered that I wanted the .com).
If you've already got the domains what else are you going to do with them?

might as well if you are not going to develop them, unless you want to sell them.

Not one of these sites have been developed and therefore do not have link equity. You think we'd get benefit from pointing all the TLDs to the main IP? I can't imagine someone typing mysite.ws. There's been internal discussion about pointing all of these to the main site, but I don't see the benefit of this besides some of the misspellings (which aren't listed here).

Defintely point the variations on your domain at your site. So point mysite.nl at mysite.com. Why point the none branded ones at your site? Do they have link equity that you want? Or did you buy them in case they became useful?

Domain Authority
Hi I wanted to find out if anyone knew how to discover why DA may have dropped? Ours has gone from 26 to 25 - I know it's not much, but I wanted to find the reason. One thing which happened was our developer company wiped redirects, which did impact rankings - would this also have affected domain authority or do I need to review our backlinks again? Thank you

Redirecting Pages from site A to site B
Hi, I have a client who have a solid, high ranking content based site (site A). They have now created an ecommerce site in addition (site B). To give site B a boost in terms of search engine visibility upon launch, they now wish to redirect approx 90% of site As pages to site B. What would be the implications of this? Apart from customers being automatically redirected from the page they thought they where landing on, how would google now view site A? What are your thoughts to thier idea. I am trying to talk them out of it as I think its a poor one.

Changing Domain
We have an old domain that we have had registered for many years(pinpoint;asersystems.com) and redirected to our regular domain (which is a short version of our name (pinlaser.com). Management wants to switch and use the longer version as the primary domain for branding purposes. I have cautioned against this for many reasons: Need to do 100's of redirects Potential loss of back links Most links will now be 301 redirects and not look natural to search engines. I would appreciate feedback on any and all risks associated with this potential move. Thanks.

Domains merging
Hi everyone, The company I work for has two domains, one for the english version of the website and another one for the french version. Example: www.digitalmusic.com (in english) www.musiquedigitale.com (in french) (these are examples***) I would like to know if on SEO standpoint it would be better to only have one domain so all of the links link to the same domain. Would it increase the domain authority and our rankings ? We will then have: www.digitalmusic.com/fr/page1 for pages in french www.digitalmusic.com/en/page1 for pages in english with all the 301 redirects required... Thank you in advance for your answers.

The system shows duplicate content for the same page (main domain and index.html). Is this an error of SEOMOZ?
Should I be worried that this will affect SEO? Most sites redirect to the index.html page, right? [edited by staff to remove toolbar data]

If we add noindex to a subdomain, will the traffic to that subdomain still generate domain authority for the primary domain?
We are trying to decide whether a password protected site, that we will noindex, should be set up as a subdomain or if it should be its own domain. The determining factor here is whether or not having that noindexed subdomain will increase domain authority since its noindexed. Any ideas???
