Opensite explorer results and old links
-
Hello,
Within a week after the penguin update (Apr. 24), I removed all site wide footer links pointing to my site. However, if I run a opensite explorer on this site I still see these links pointing to my site. And I'm sure I deleted them!
How long will it take that these links disappear from the opensite explorer results?
Do you think Google's algorithm has the same results to check my website on? Or does the algorithm have another "tool"?
Thank you.
Regards,
Thomas

If you visit http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ there is a link which says "View update calendar". If you view that link you will notice the OSE data was updated on May 31st and the next update is scheduled for June 27th.
If you are seeing links which you are sure have been removed, it is likely the links were removed during the crawl cycle which was published on May 31st. It takes roughly a month for SEOmoz to crawl the web, process the data then publish it. In summary, the data is 30-60 days behind.
As sophisticated as the SEOmoz crawler is, Google's is a lot better. Google's crawler is the best in the world and obtains more data, faster, then anyone else. Even so, when you remove a footer link, it usually applies to every page on the site and it generally takes Google several weeks to crawl every page of a decent site.
The last Penguin update was around May 25. I would expect the next update around June 26th. To be clear, I have absolutely no insider information on this topic. It is a complete guess based on the prior updates being released a month apart (April 24th & May 25th respectively).

Link juice on sub domains
We have got all our clients linking to our website blackpen.tv Based on a user's location they will be redirected to a sub domain. So for example someone in France clicking on a link blackpen.tv would be redirected to paris.blackpen.tv or blackpen.tv/paris Would this affect the amount of link juice passed down?

example.com and example.nl. In the head of both websites the hreflang tags have been added to tell Search Engines which site is targeted at which country. That's good 🙂 However, the hreflang links are pointing to the homepages of both websites from every page on the websites. Isn't example.nl/blog/ not supposed to link the hreflang tag to example.com/blog/?0 -
Will website with tag hreflang pass link juice to other country/language version of website?
For example, I have a website XXX.com and I made hreflang tags to other country/language versions of website: ru.XXX.com (for Russia/Russian) XXX.com.ua (for Ukraine/Russian) ua.XXX.com (for Ukraine/Ukraine) Then I will acquire links to XXX.com. The question is: will XXX.com pass link juice to websites ru.XXX.com, XXX.com.ua and ua.XXX.com. Will these websites rank in their countries if I will acquire links ONLY to XXX.com? I looked at https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en, but haven't found what google think about that. Thank you in advance. I will appreciate your help.

3 month old site lost almost complete traffic overnight
Hi All, I started a Indian coupon and deal site http://www.couponspy.in/ around 3 month ago and traffic increased almost daily. But yesterday my site lost almost all of its traffic. Keywords which ranked 1-5 lost around 4-15 places and keywords which ranked 6-20 lost ca. 20-50 places. The Moz Crawl Diagnostics doesn't indicate any mayor issues. Has there been a Google Panda update in India? Reasons why my site has been affected? Please help!!!! 😉 I have seen the same traffic decrease on other coupon start ups, eg https://www.cuponation.in/ and https://www.cuponation.in/ Did we all make the same mistake? Any guesses?

Footer Links
Ok I have a plan for the footer links on our site which interlink and point to our international sites, let me run it by you guys and let me know your thoughts. First part is that due to these being sitewide links I am going to nofollow all of them apart from the links in the footer of the home page which ill keep as follow. Second is to use branded terms for these country flags so company name and location instead of being our main keyword... Is there anything else that I should consider here?

How do you see Google results specific to location?
We run a Canadian website and are interested in seeing what SERPs look like from specific postal codes. Is there any way to manipulate Google to think our IP address comes from another location? Thanks!

Link Building in russian speaking countries
Hello, We are an international company, based mostly in Romania and Hungary, but we also launched some websites in Ukraine. The interesting thing in Ukraine that we are facing heavily, is how they are doing link building. Basically the only link building that they do is buying links through a platform: sape.ru (http://www.mainlinkads.com/ this is English version). Local SEO consultants also advice to buy links. It wasn't so much a problem, but when you have a good site with good content, but have competitors that are buying links and then overcome our good keyword positions, we started to questions whether to start buying links ourselves. What is your opinion on this? Is it possible that Google will penalize a big bunch of sites, now in sape.ru there are: 487 069 sites? Can we adopt the same strategy as our competitors as long as it is working? Thanks, Irina
