Does domain registrar location (still?) play a role in SEO
-
I was wondering if the location of our domain registrar still play a role in SEO. The thing is that one of our domains are registered with a registrar in another country. It is a national TLD (.no). Could this have any influence on our rankings?
The reason for asking is that i came across this article at Search Engine Journal:
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-rankings-influenced-by-server-domain-registrar-and-geographic-location/5963/ saying: "
Hosting is not the only variable Google may look at when determining search relevance for a site, here is a look at hosting, domain registrar information and geographic location."I was wondering if what is said here, still is valid (article is from 2007).
Hope you guys can help me out.

If you're worried, switch it to a local registrar. It won't take too long to propagate. I would go for it, if it's not a high trafficed site.

Thank you for your reply Gianluca.
Actually, the domain is hosted in Norway (server located in Norway), but the registrar is outside of Norway. That is why it think this was a difficult question So when referring to te article from SEJ, I was wondering if the location of the registrar itself (not where the domain was hosted) was an issue
But it actually did help me Thanks!!

To have the domain name hosted in another country than the targeted one is still a factor, even though - IMO - is a minor one.
It is a factor because it reinforce the geo targeting of a website and its local nature.
On the other hand, being you domain termination a cTld (.no), you know that Google automatically focus it for the Google.no index, no matter where the domain name has been actually registered.
Finally, as Richard Baxter made noticed in a comment to a Rand's WBF about International SEO, exist other method (Proxy) to avoid this location issue: http://seogadget.co.uk/proxy-caching-for-seo/
Hope this helps you
Cheers

Badges & SEO
Hello, Moz Community! We're working on creating an affiliate badge for events that make our best-of list and we're wondering: if every event website embedded the badge (could be as many as 70), would having the same image hosting URL for each one raise concerns with Google? Thanks!

Blogging on multiple domains
We have three different domains for geotargeting (za,uk and .com). Each site at at the moment has the same content with only country specific details changed like currency etc. What is the best way to get maximum SEO benefit when posting new content. When we post new content should we repost to all three domains (the same content) or will Google only index the url on the domain which is crawled first. Thanks in advance

301 redirect domain to page on another domain
Hi, If I wanted to do a 301 permanent redirect on a domain to a page on another domain will this cause any problems? Lets say I have 4 domains (all indexed with content), I decide to create a new domain with 4 pages, one for each domain. I copy the content from the old domains to the relevant page on the new domain and set it live. At the same time as setting the new site live I do a 301 permanent redirect on the 4 domains to the relevant pages on the new domain. What happens if Google indexes the new site before visiting the redirected domains, could this cause a duplicate content penalty? Cheers

Wordpress SEO Errors - Any advice?
Hi all! My site is on the WP platform and I'm having a crawl error. Wondering if you guys could possibly help me figure out what's going on? I have a good number of 404 errors where the links seems to be appended and I can't figure out why. I've scoured my individual posts and cannot seem to find the broken link? The crawl error looks a bit like this: http://preciousthingsphotography.com/2007/12/10/chicago-family-photographer-welcome/http:%2F%2Fpreciousthingsphotography.com%2F2007%2F12%2F10%2Fchicago-family-photographer-welcome%2F You can see that my original link is somehow being doubled with the slashes being replaced? This is happening on all of my posts. Any ideas as to what could be going on? Thanks so much!
