% of the time you find email addresses - broken link building
-
Hello,
What percentage of the time do you find an exact email address of the person to contact when doing broken link building?
And what do you do if you can't find an email address?
Always interested in more tools if I need them, my last post here brought out several good tools.
Thank you.

I would recommend doing whatever it takes to find the contact information. Also take a look at these two articles they will help you:

So for broken link building, what's an algorithm?:
Like
-
Look for webmaster contact info
-
try whois
-
email [email protected]
-
email [email protected] and [email protected]
The above (1) - (4) are just an example. What do you recommend?

To report broken links, you will usually want to report this to a webmaster. So if you are unable to find their email address you can always try standard email address formats.
For example, if you find a broken link on brokelink.com, try emailing to [email protected] or [email protected]. You can even try to contact someone for general inquires so they can forward your email to the right person or give you the correct email address. To do this (using the example above), I would try [email protected] or [email protected]
If you are able to spot a name on the website but can't find their corresponding email address, you can use a combination of Rapportive and this custom google doc - bit.ly/name2email - to help you discover the correct email address. Here is the blog post on Distilled where this idea was derived - http://www.distilled.net/blog/miscellaneous/find-almost-anybodys-email-address/
-
You can always use who.is to find out who the site is registered to I also remember this question being asked in the past: http://www.seomoz.org/q/finding-specific-name-to-send-email-to-broken-link-building

How to build Domain Authority?
My site: https://www.fishingspots.com.au/ has started to drop Domain Authority in the past weeks, however less quality sites like http://silverstories.com.au/ are rising... I am not sure why? Is there someway I can understand why my site would suddenly start dropping authority?

Thoughts on my change of address delima?
Currently our corporate website and store website are under two domains. internationalcompany.com (DA: 51; Corporate Website) companystore.com (DA: 34; US Store Website) We were hoping to piggyback on the corporate website domain authority by moving our store to internationalcompany.com/store and when we learned that couldn't happen we opted for us.internationalcompany.com/store. The reason we are leaning towards the route of us.internationalcompany.com is because it is likely that we will be taking over the US branch of the corporate website so we thought it better that the store be a sub address of that. My main concerns... From what I have gathered it seems that I can't do a change of address to a subdomain within Webmaster Tools - I'd have to have access to internationalcompany.com which won't happen soon. So, is a 301 just as good in this case? As a subdomain, we won't actually reap the benefits of the domain authority of the parent domain will we? Are we just as well off considering a new domain and asking that regional tags be established on the current internationalcompany.com so that the content does not interfere with our SEO efforts? This is a broad explanation for a complicated issue. Please ask any question that may help clarify.

How hard would it be to take a well-linked site, completely change the subject matter & still retain link authority?
So, this would be taking a domain with a domain authority of 50 (200 root domains, 3500 total links) and, for fictitious example, going from a subject matter like "Online Deals" to "The History Of Dentistry"... just totally unrelated new subject for the old/re-purposed domain. The old content goes away entirely. The domain name itself is a super vague .com name and has no exact match to anything either way. I'm wondering, if the DNS changed to different servers, it went from 1000 pages to a blog, ownership/contacts stayed the same, the missing pages were 301'd to the homepage, how would that fare in Google for the new homepage focus and over what time frame? Assume the new terms are a reasonable match to the old domain authority and compete U.S.-wide... not local or international. Bonus points for answers from folks who have actually done this. Thanks... Broken links and Angular.js technology
I generated a report for a potential client and there were a few things wrong, including broken links (404 error). I suggested to fix them and here's what he replied: The site uses a technology called Angular.js. It outputs results using the 'item.url' in the URL. It is just a placer in a code loop that is outputted correctly by the browser to point to correct link. We use Angular.js because it allows us to have the filtering system on overview pages like the dining tables page.Angular.js is a Google technology – and they host a full explanation about how to use it at http://angularjs.orgAs backup, we also output Angular.js links in a standard form (which appears further down the page when looking at the source code). As it's a relatively new technology (since 2009), it is also evolving. If there's a better way of delivering SEO using angular.js it'd be great to hear about it.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, I am not going to lie, that I haven't heard about Angular.js, so I'm not sure how to answer this. Please adviseWarmly,Dominica

Do links to PDF's on my site pass "link juice"?
Hi, I have recently started a project on one of my sites, working with a branch of the U.S. government, where I will be hosting and publishing some of their PDF documents for free for people to use. The great SEO side of this is that they link to my site. The thing is, they are linking directly to the PDF files themselves, not the page with the link to the PDF files. So my question is, does that give me any SEO benefit? While the PDF is hosted on my site, there are no links in it that would allow a spider to start from the PDF and crawl the rest of my site. So do I get any benefit from these great links? If not, does anybody have any suggestions on how I could get credit for them. Keep in mind that editing the PDF's are not allowed by the government. Thanks.

How to minimalise links in your footer
Hi guys, I'm working on the website to improve the internal linking structure. We have thousand of pages, and on every single page we have the same footer with the same links. For this reason I would like to change the footer in only relevant links for the user, but also for the robots. So for the user I leave in the general main links Home / Contact / Promotions and customise a part of the links to specific links about the section they are looking at. Now my idea was to add to the General Main links a Nofollow, so I direct the robots in a better structure about how to read the website. I have been reading a lot about internal linkbuilding- like http://www.seomoz.org/blog/smarter-internal-linking-whiteboard-friday and http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/internal-link http://www.searchenginejournal.com/information-architecture-rocket-science-simplified/22503/ and a lot more, too much to display all. but my question would be, is it smart to internally start using NOFOLLOW's on links. because I do found also some negative comments on this approach http://www.dashboardjunkie.com/noindex-nofollow-canonical-and-disallow I hope to get some feedback from the community to make up my mind.

Do nofollow links affect link profile?
I've read that it's good to keep a natural link profile. Some naked links, some links going to our company name, some with anchor text, etc. Do nofollow links affect this link profile, or is it only followed links that are taken into account?

Too many links!
Hi, I'm running a wordpress blog (modhop.com) and am getting the "too many links" on almost all of my pages. It appears that in addition to basic site navigation I have plug-ins that create invisible links that are counted in the crawl...at least that's my guess. Is there a good way to control this in wordpress? A nofollow in the .htaccess? A plug-in that does this? (I'm sort of at novice-plus level here so the simplest solution is ideal.) Thanks!
