Open site explorer does not work

Hello, we are trying to work with http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ but it does not work both in chrome and IE, what seem to be the problem? thanks, Sam.

Hey Sam,
Sorry that you are having some issues connecting to OSE. The issue with Chrome is a known issue and can usually be fixed by clearing your cache and cookies and restarting your browser. I would recommend clearing your cookies for all time. That should help.
As for IE, we aren't really optimized for use in IE so that may be causing the issue. Did you try to diagnose the connection issue? That might help us to know what would be causing the connection issue with that browser.
I would also recommend that you make sure that third-party cookies are activated in your browser (I know it seems basic, but it really does help). This is how you do this inChrome: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95647
If that still doesn't work, please let us know.

This is what we are getting on Chrome
This webpage has a redirect loop
The webpage at http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Here are some suggestions:
- Reload this webpage later.
- Learn more about this problem.
Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIREWe did delete the cookies but it still does the same problem.

Hi Sam,
We're sorry to hear that OSE isn't working for you. Could you go to our help hub at http://www.seomoz.org/help and use the red Contact our Help Team button? Open a ticket, and let us know what is or is not happening. Are you getting an error about too many redirects? If you can give us a few details, we'll be able to help you figure it out and improve our software.
Thanks!

Sam,
I am working on a mac, and OSE works across all browsers including Chrome. What version of IE?
You mention "It doesn't work". What exactly do you mean by that? The website is down? The tool is pulling in wrong data? The tool is pulling in no data at all?
No one here can possibly answer your question without more specifics.

Free tool which includes a link back to my site
On one of my sites I provide a free tool to other webmasters to use that allows them to copy some code to use the free tool on their website and under the tool on it says "Powered by: mysite.co.uk" with a link to "mysite.co.uk". Now I have no real control over which sites can come and use this free tool (a tool to test how fast an internet connection is), on the whole though it is aimed at a specific niche but a range of sites do use it which means good or crap sites can pick up the free code to place into their sites. The link to mysite.co.uk is now always mysite.co.uk as the anchor text, I used to use the websites name (which is the actual name of the URL - link to site at end of post) so the links were keyword rich but only to my sites genuine name, however I now just leave it as the URL to my site. I am not aiming to do anything untowards with the linking other than to get the acknowledgement that it was provided for free by my site, however I'm wondering if google etc will be able to tell they are natural and not dodgy? My site is: http://bit.ly/MsNQwS (n.b. a new improved test is being created before anyone says it's not accurate). 🙂

Mutiple domains pointing on the same web site issues
We have in out company lots off different domains pointing to the same web site (On for most major countries actually...) . Unfortunately this was done by having all the DNS names to point to the same IP address to the target web site, and not by using a redirect as should have been done. As most of the pages on the web site are linked internally (All the pages of the site links at least to the front page), this resulted to have all the different domains linking one to each other causing artificial external backlinks to our main .com web site. I just wonder if google is giving us a penallity for this backlinks ? Also this causes the same content to be shared among different domains, resulting probably to self competition for keywords. Should we now remove all other domains resulting to a loss of these "artificial backlinks" ?

How do directories that pull listings from DMOZ work?
I've listed an example below. I see these all the time, where a directory pulls it's listings from DMOZ. So you would naturally assume that if you're in DMOZ, you would get these links, but that's not the case. This particular link was picked up by OSE so I'm wondering what the quality of these links really are and if they're legit? Also, if you go to the main subdomain the page just says "Buy shirts". What is the deal with these types of so-called "directories"? http://www.searches.org/go/search/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Furniture/ Another example: http://www.westcairn.com/furniture.htm

One client, one b2b site and one b2c site - linking relationship
I have a client that has 2 websites in a particular industry. The first website concentrates on advertising services and products to other organisations/companies but does not sell anything online. The second website is an ecommerce site with many products from the same industry and is more a b2c operation. Would it be considered ok to add maybe 5 footer links from one to the other and vice versa? considering that they are footer links and will ultimately increase total links pointing to both site exponentially. Both sites are hosted in the same location.

Any good content sites with good quality links?
I have some content which is still relevant and interesting but not really suitable for my current websites. I have been thinking of using this on an article site to generate some links back to my sites, but I am wary about this due to Google's targeting of content sites. I currently have good PR's on Squidoo and Hubpages which link back and work quite well. Can anyone suggest any others or any ideas how to use this content for SEO purposes? Is using it for article submissions to get links short sited?
