Dedicated IP Address on my forum site www.astigtayo.com?
-
Hello and Good Day,
Does having a dedicated IP Address to my site affect my search engine ranking?
-
Highland,
I read this and went to do a bit of research regarding whether or not Google would ban an entire IP address.... Well I found nothing, either way. Typical Google. But, I think you are right and that I may have spread an urban myth or at least something that became an urban myth.
So, I agree, I do not think the entire IP address would be banned to begin with. Thanks for making me think.Best

Nijzing is correct re that links from the same IP address have less value would be one effect on your site. The other in the case of a non dedicated server is if the other sites hosted on the host gator server you are on should have a spam site within the group, it can cause the search engines to ignore the entire IP address.
So you are on same server as SpammyJoe.com and he gets busted by Google, they will not list anything on that server. So, if you are not sure of the issues that could hurt you.

Some people have issued the warning of "Make sure you're not on a banned IP" but, so far, I've never seen an example where a person jumps onto an IP and finds out that Google banned that IP. Google bans sites, not IPs, and in every example I've seen, the sites banned on an IP all had some common problem (i.e. the server got hacked and malware was installed).
There has never been any advantage shown to having a dedicated IP vs being on a virtual host. What Nijzing means in his post is that some people like to build their sites to link to each other and use dedicated IPs to achieve that. As someone who virtual hosts, I can say that it really doesn't matter that much. I link my sites together (where it makes sense) and have had no real problems. Then again, I don't rely on those links wholly for my backlinks either. I think the whole "links your sites together by using different IPs" mess is a ton of work for no real gain.

Hello Mark,
some say that IP adress is a factor for ranking but mainly in the sence that linking from the same ip adres to other websites with the same adres doesn't do much. Having a own server with a own ip adres is better (linkbuilding wise).
others say that ip adresses are only used to determine the country your websites is located and nothing more.
I don't think you can say for sure that it does affect your results but as long as you make sure that links come from other ip adresses i don't think it will harm your website

GSC Performance completely dropped off, but Google Analytics is steady. Why can't GSC track my site anymore?
Hey everyone! I'm having a weird issue that I've never experienced before. For one of my clients, GSC has a complete drop-off in the Performance section. All of the data shows that everything fell flat, or almost completely flat. But in Google Analytics, we have steady results. No huge drop-off in traffic, etc. Do any of you know why GSC would all of a sudden be unable to crawl our site? Or track this data? Let me know what you think!

Do we need to Disallow profiles from discussions or forums?
Hi, We have a forum where users create different threads like any other community...ex..Moz. Thousands of pages are getting created. New threads and comments are Okay as they have relevant content. We are planning to "Disallow" all profile pages as they do not help with content relevancy and may dilute the link juice with thousands of such profile pages. Is this right way to proceed? Thanks

Will Google penalize 2 sites for targeting "like" keyword phrases?
I own (2) different websites, one an HTML site that has been live for 20 years and a ecommerce site that has been live for 7 years. We sell custom printed (branded) tents for use at trade shows and other indoor and outdoor events. While our ecomm site targets "trade show" tents our HTML site targets "event" tents. I believe that the keyword phrases are dissimilar enough that targeting "trade show tents" on one site and "event tents" on the other should not cause Google to penalize one or the other or both sites for having similar content. The content is different on both sites. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with, or opinions on, my thoughts... either way. Thanks,

Bounce rate seems to decrease as site climbs the SERP but SERP ranking always drops down after a few days - WHY ?
Like quite a few sites recently we've seen some large fluctuations for our domain the SERPs over the past 6 or so weeks. One thing ive noticed, is that when the site seems to rank higher in the SERPs we get a lower bounce rate. If the sites average across all of its main keywords in #5 the bounce rate is c. 40% (this site is a creative portfolio site, so i guess the niche has a slightly higher bounce rate than normal as you will get some people who click through an notice straight away that the style of the portfolio isnt what they where looking for) But when the sites ranking averages #2-3 the bounce rate tends to be about 25%. (The thing is that we tend to always drop back down after a fews days or so) Has any one else noticed this ?

Seperate Blog vs Blog in Site
Hello, When is it useful to have a blog as an external entity, versus a blog embedded in an ecommerce site. My thoughts lean towards making it part of the site to build new content, but I'm open to suggestions.

Duplicate Content & www.3quarksdaily.com, why no penalty?
Does anyone have a theory as to why this site does not get hit with a DC penalty? The site is great, and the information is good but I just cannot understand the reason that this site does not get hit with a duplicate content penalty as all articles are posted elsewhere. Any theories would be greatly appreciated!

Google said that low-quality pages on your site may affect rankings on other parts
One of my sites got hit pretty hard during the latest Google update. It lost about 30-40% of its US traffic and the future does not look bright considering that Google plans a worldwide roll-out. Problem is, my site is a six year old heavy linked, popular Wordpress blog. I do not know why the article believes that it is low quality. The only reason I came up with is the statement that low-quality pages on a site may affect other pages (think it was in the Wired article). If that is so, would you recommend blocking and de-indexing of Wordpress tag, archive and category pages from the Google index? Or would you suggest to wait a bit more before doing something that drastically. Or do you have another idea what I could to do? I invite you to take a look at the site www.ghacks.net
