Customizing Search Engine Searches
-
In the article, "Long List of Link Searches", Rand recommends:
"At Google and others, it often helps to show 100 results per page and have the maximum "grouping" of results from the same site. That way, you can find all of the most relevant pages on a particular domain with ease."
Can someone please share with me just how to customize the various search engine views this way?

There are a couple ways you can do this, Ahmad, but they both require that you have turned off "Instant Results" in your search preferences.
Click on the small gear icon on the top right of the search results and on the dropdown select Search Settings.
In the second section under Google Instant Predictions, select Never show instant results.
Right below that you will now see an active slider that lets you select up to 100 results per page instead of the default 10.
Once you're done, hit Save at the bottom of the page.
A few tips:
- if you are logged into your Google account when you make these changes, they will "stick" until you go back in and change them.
- if you aren't logged into your Google account, the changes will apply until you close the browser. The next time you open the browser to search, you'll default back to the regular settings.
- if you just want 100 results very occasionally - as long as you have Google Instant turned off, you can leave the number of results per page set at 10 as normal. Then when you want 100 results for a particular search, just add &num=100 to the end of the URL that shows in the address bar after you run the initial search. (you'll need to re-add that manually for each additional search)
Make sense?

How is it possible that our page outperforms our competitors by all factors yet we are #5 on google search and they are #1, #2 and #3?
I've just carried out "Compare Link Metrics" analysis where I have compared our company page for a specific keyword with our competitors and it appears that our page outperforms our competitors by all factors provided by MOZ.com, yet our page is displayed as #5 in google search results and our competitor is taking #1, #2 and #3 for the specific keyword: "gāzes baloni". Attached are screenshots. Any ideas why this might be the case and what tactics should I adopt in order to change the situation? Here is the link to our website page for this keyword: http://www.intergaz.lv/lv/gazes-baloni And here are the links to our competitor website: http://www.lpg.lv/lv/gazes-baloni/ipasie-piedavajumi/ipasie-piedavajumi.html , http://www.lpg.lv/lv/gazes-baloni/gazes-balonu-specifikacija/ , http://www.lpg.lv/lv/gazes-baloni/gazes-balonu-iegades-vietas/ . Thank you very much in advance. ZoYSJ Zaq1C

Is there any BAD SEO implications to acquiring backlinks from customers?
What would be the negative aspects to sending customer's requests for a backlink in conjunction with asking how their experience with us was? Backlinks are one of the toughest for our niche industry to acquire and this seems like one of the best angles to cover, since we have .edu , .mil , .gov , and many bigname companies making purchases from us. Would if be wrong to offer a small 5% discount during their next purchase if they create a backlink with us? Or if we added a " Customer's we've served " section including their logo or text link? Thank you! I hope you're all having an awesome day / week / month!

Does having '?search' in a URL affect the page quality?
In our Costume Themes category on our website, http://www.costumedirect.com.au/themes/, the links direct to search pages with URLs containing the term '?search'. For example, the 'Edward Scissorhands' link directs to http://www.costumedirect.com.au/search.php?search_query=edward. Will the question mark and 'search' in our URL affect the page quality and rankings? Thank you.

Finding links online that already exist as link juice based on search results
I'm curious about this, I can't find anything on the net that talks about it. I wrote an article about it on squidoo and have had no responses so I am thinking this is very rare subject. The question is I have done some backlink research with my competitors with linkdetective.com and found many links (even follow ones) related to sites that provide search results. Here are a link about what I am talking about as an example, I have found many more besides this one. http://search.lphant.com/es/webResults.html?q=free%20scrabble%20dictionary&hl=en&page=1&src=hmp_es&ref=1 My site appears in those results. When looking at the source there is no "nofollow". I found this page because linkdetective.com had this link listed pointing to my competitor. Are these valid backlinks? What I have been doing is adding these links to http://www.google.com/addurl so that Google knows about them. Is there something I am missing or are these valid?

Link Spamming or Not? Block Internal Search Results From Indexing?
We are looking at providing our customers with the best experience when performing a site search for a product. Would it be bad SEO practice to have our internal search results show results for all 4 Brands linking to different domains? This would mean multiple outgoing links to other owned sites from the same IP. Is it a best practice to block internal search results using robots.txt?

Same IP for sites & linkbuilding - negative signal for search engines?
Let's say you have 40 websites which share the same IP and you place links to them on a bunch of sites (directories, blogs), albeit on different pages on these sites. Will search engines (google) see that they use the same IP and start having the links not-pass link juice based on that same IP?

SEO Tool to search mass URLs (for link qualification)
Hi, I have been using OSE and have a compiled list of backlinks to my competitor's sites. The next step would be to go through and qualify all of these links for a link opportunities for my client's site. To save me a lot of time, I require a tool that will search all of these pages (say 1000) for specific keywords in tags or body content. A search query might be - site:(URL list) intitle:directory site:(URL list) "add site" etc Any ideas would be great. Thanks.
