The concept of Blogging
-
Can anyone describe the fundamentals of blogging?
Should I be aiming blog posts at "subject A vs subject B" or more on recent projects that have been worked on such as "keyword working with company A to complete subject X" ?
Also, should I allow comments on posts and filter out the spam using plugins and manual methods or should I just turn them off and forget the hassle?
Any help would be grand!

Hi Shaun,
Thanks for asking your question. What you do with your blog should be guided by what your goals are. Some industries are an easy, natural match for blogging. For example, a bakery can blog about awesome wedding cakes they've created for weddings in Los Angeles. They can post gorgeous photos, write up a description of the cake, icing, decorations, and talk about the venue to which they delivered the cake. By taking this approach, the bakery can hope to attract traffic from people searching for a wedding cake baker in LA.Some industries have to work harder to find something inviting and interesting to blog about. An attorney might be a good example of this. However, let's say he's an accident lawyer. He can potentially write about new driving laws, bicycle-friendly cities, accident avoidance, and news about local or national cases involving accidents. In such a case, his goal might be to demonstrate his involvement in his field and his expertise to readers, while also showing to search engines that his website/blog is a lively, frequently updated entity, enabling him to surpass more static competitors.
So, depending on what your business does, yes, showcasing your work with clients in some posts could be great, while other posts might focus on tactical advice about what you do for a living, or highlighting news in your industry that you feel is important. Different kinds of posts make a blog interesting.
Yes, I definitely recommend using a spam fighting plugin. I use Akismet and it blocks thousands of spam comments for me every year.
Allowing comments on your blog means that you are inviting interaction, and as this is the whole point of blogging, the decision to turn off comments would mean that you do not want people to be able to talk to you about what you write. There are some instances in which bloggers do this, but in my opinion, that takes away one of the key points of their having a blog and they might as well just be publishing a series of static articles. There could be exceptions to this, of course, but in most cases, the point of blogging is to interact with the public, so giving them a voice is an important part of that.

Blog how you want to blog and how you think it will interest the reader.
From memory I don't really think blogs with massive amounts of comments rank overly well, could be wrong though.

Updating blogs - SEO best practice
Thinking of new blog content and one option obviously is to check out historical popular blogposts via Analytics and do fresh versions of those. So my question is what is best practice: 1. Copy and paste the old blogpost copy but edit it to be slightly different while still having the old blogpost live or 2. just update the old one and re-promote I assume it's better to have a new version of the blogpost?

Starting a Blog. New Domain vs integrated in a shop domain?
Hi everybody, We are going to start a blog for posting about topics related to our online shop and its products. Our question is... what is better in terms of SEO.... Creating it in a new domain and linking to our online store when neccessary, or integrating it in our actual online shop and take advantage of our visitors? Thank you very much in advance! Best Regards

What is your take on using Google images for blogs
In your opinion, do you think it is okay to use Google images for your blog posts as long as it credits or includes a link to the site in which you located it? We tried looking at stock art for some license-free photos and had no luck in coming up with good pictures. What rules or guidelines do you follow when looking for pictures for your customers blog (or your own)? A lot of our posts have to do with "what to do in this city" or "Where to go in this city". Do you think it's okay to use Google images for these types of posts?

Removing and resubmitting an article to another blog
I received a guest post earlier from an SEO company. I have published it, and it's been indexed in Google. Now the person wants me to remove the guest post, probably because they already have a guest post with a link pointing to the same client on my blog. I don't mind removing it, but are their any negative aspects in republishing that same article on another blog? Would it be a mistake to remove that article from my blog?

Duplicate Text on Blog & Internal News Page
I have two places I post news for our company. Our blog - typically more informal posts
Content Development | | seo-hunter
mycompany.wordpress.com & Our news page - typically more newsworthy than the blog
mycompany.com/news My question is, It is okay to just copy the exact text from my wordpress blog and paste to my news area of my site and vice versa? Does this hurt ranking potential for either page?0 -
Harder and harder to get articles approved on My Blog Guest
Hi People, So I got a My Blog Guest account (paid) and have now for a while, I do back the service as its a great system and works well BUT mods are making it very hard work. I put up around 20 articles a month on this site which costs me £300+ to have produced by a professional copywriter and the standard is very high, I get feedback from bloggers commenting on how good the articles are because of the quality of the content (articles are 500 - 550 words). So all I ask in return is 1 link in the body and 1 link in the byline. I ask the copy writer to put a particular keyword somewhere in the content where it best fits, if its a top 5/top 10 article the keyword sometimes fits best in the first few paragraphs before it flows into the list. This is where the problem is: Now these articles are good, they have to be as there for a company with products in major high street retail stores so quality is not an issue. If I put the link in the first paragraph I get these kind of responses: "Linking from opening paragraph is rude to say at least" If I put the link in the second paragraph I get these kind of responses: "Please move your body link to the bottom of the article or better the byline" "The normal procedure is to Hide articles with links in the first few paragraphs like this one...Please edit to put the link in the second half of the article" "Links should be in the second half of the post" Then the articles are taken down until I do what they say! It's my article I can put the link where I want its up to the blog owner whether they want it or not, its not the content you want to administrate its the quality of the blogs, I got users private emailing me asking me to buy links, I've got users applying for articles where there using blogspot and wordpress free sites with content scrapped from the web. I think they got bigger problems then a link in the second paragraph and not the third.

Why does my lousy little blog Rank number 1 on Google?
Search "Google Places Changes." My Blog, www.salesjumpstart.net/blog is ranked first. Has been for a week. Why? Makes no sense. I have been getting many first page Google results for 3 and 4 word keyword searches. The site or Blog just isn't that strong. http://www.google.com/search?q=Google+places+hchanges&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=uFR&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&source=hp&q=Google+places+changes&pbx=1&oq=Google+places+changes&aq=f&aqi=g2g-j1g-b1&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=4293l4293l0l4628l1l1l0l0l0l0l271l271l2-1l1l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=661c0b1152c259b4&biw=1024&bih=583
