How do you determine the level of an SEO
-
I wanted to know how others classify an individual in the industry. i.e. What makes an SEO beginner, intermediate or advanced? What skill set separates a pro from a newbie?
-
Hi definitely agree with the point you made about marketing. I have always believed that a top notch SEO should have some insight into the workings of marketing in general to better assist a business in making use of the internet to generate sales. I also believe this to be true for PPC managers by the way but more so for SEOs
-
people know what link building is, but have they ever done it - and has it ever actually helped them? I think there a lot of factors that go into it.
-How influential are you on your industry?
-What kind of SEO do you do?
-Do you do SEO for yourself, or for your clients?- A Gazzilion more things to consider
So many different angles at SEO, hard one to pinpoint, but people that have been there and done that. An expert would definitely be someone that is making money for themselves off of their own SEO expertise. Beginners and Intermediates fall short of that.

As Andrea mentioned, there will be different responses to this question but for me, I would depend on experience and results. I know many SEO's who can talk the talk but when it comes to doing things and delivering, then it's a different story. A newbie can read thousands of blog posts on SEO, but end of the day, is still a newbie.
-
I would ask them to tell you about some link building campaigns they have done, then find out how successful it was.
-
Yes agree... if you are just focusing on the on-site SEO you are still a beginner... SEO is moving more towards marketing as well so you need people that can think outside the box as it is getting harder and harder to get a good link profile these days!
-
I think link building can straddle between beginner and intermediate, depending on your site/content and how you need to go about getting links.
Given that Google, for example, is constantly making changes to its algo and how much weight it wants to give some traditional SEO things, like anchor text, links, KW density, that it's a sign of a more capable person if they are reading up on the changes and being fluid with how to adapt said changes to benefit their site.
(And I agree that anyone who is stuck on page-only optimization shouldn't be qualified to be an SEO, however there's still a lot of people who don't know much about the field who treat that narrow focus as if it's all there is to know. )
-
Thanks for your response, would you say that knowledge in link building is already an indicator of an intermediate SEO or would that still be the basics? I personally believe that you cannot even be considered an SEO if all you do is on-page seo but I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this.
-
There's going to be a ton of possible answers to this, but my two cents: depth of technical skill set and global knowledge really set experiences pros apart. So many newbies are so focused on the basics - on page optimization and basic HTML coding - that when you come across those who can identify and diagnose true technical issues and work across sites at a global level, you can tell the difference in skill set.
I mean, look at some of the questions that get asked in these forums - great indicators of how complex this can all become.

SEO Guidelines for Partner Links
We decided to follow an aggressive strategy with cross linking. We have cross linked all all the 6 different brands just above the header of a News Portal. You could see what i mean here www.in.gr
Industry News | | DOLdatacenter
Do you think that i should enable the nofollow so as not to get penalized by Google. We tend to use the same cross network linking scheme (in the header) for all branded sites. Google’s guidance on link schemes doesn’t specifically address these types of partner links, which don’t really fit the mold for “excessive link exchanging.” Thoughts appreciated.0 -
How to Find A SEO Guru?
How to find a SEO Guru I am a looking for a SEO to take over our SEO needs for our website.I am not interested in learning SEO and would rather leave it to the pro's.We already have great traffic 800K+ monthly but we need to take it to the next level and beyond. I have searched through SEOMOZ and read articles everywhere and done all that, I think I am more confused now than when I started on how to find a great SEO. While their are plenty of great SEO guys out their a lot of them I don't feel comfortable putting our business in their hands.Their are some smaller SEO's and some shady SEO's that won't work for us.Then some just don't have the credentials or background for us to hand over our hard earned money and have the future of our businesses in their hands. We want someone who has worked on big projects and had great success and is a industry leader but is willing to work with me and be hands on just not send me reports and suggestions. I am Trying to find SEO guru who knows his stuff and knows it well.I know i will pay good money for this but would like to find some up and comers so I don't have to sell unborn children to afford their services. What would be a good way to a great seo maybe even a guru? Finding the right SEO has become a daunting task.

PR Releases? Do they help your SEO?
Do PR releases help? Do links from PRweb.com carry no value? Was Matt Cutts being specific to the user's website in the Google Webmaster discussion, when Matt said "I wouldn't expect links from press release web sites to benefit your rankings, however." https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/webmasters/O178PwARnZw/discussion

Seo is dead?
Hi there, I see a lot of conversations about the term "seo is dead" because some people speak that seo are dead because of google plus and facebook. Is it true? What do you think? What do you think that is the future of our business? We will stay uneployed or we still continue to work? Me personally I hate facebook. Is just so much stupid (like most of people, I guess thats why is so popular) but what about google plus? Is a serious and worthy social profile. This will kill us? I read in SEL or SEW ,I dont remember which of them that this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farhad_Manjoo said that seo is dead and some are even supporting him. Also he said that "Google just broke its search engine" with the creation of Google plus. Me I think search msrketing, seo will live for long time yet,Me personally and my friends NEVER EVER CLICK on Facebook ads(if we do it , is just curiosity, and after we never visit again that page, this guys what I was reading their articles before they said that they see a lot of traffick from facebook.me also but the taffic from facebook dont do nothing, even in adsense they dont click on my sites, not to convert to buyers).I have 20 close friends and none of them cares what kind of content they find from facebook. Is our mentality (I am from CYprus)? Or is just a fact? That facebook ads are just some crap? Or general the acebook is a crap?Me i think that is.Is made for some people who are boaring and need something to kill time.so the traffick what you get is some boaring people who dont care about nothing, just some more things to watch and comment with their friends. So practically you have them on the site and after BAM, new hot site so bye bye.Never visit again your site. Why is so much importand?Their likes etc?The difference with google adsense is that all from our company are clicking on the ads and on the results. (much more on the results, because we think that is the best.Including me that I know that SERP can be manipulated. But we still prefer that. Why all speak about that SEO are dead? Are paid from facebook? WTF? Why I never hear somebody from SEOMOZ to say this?My result is that they are some bunch of I@@@TS and they dont know what they speak or are on the other side.I am sorry for my bad english but like this I can express my fealings. If you dont understand something please ask.

How do I "link" up with USA based SEO's
After 28 long years of wait this year I finally made it to the United States of America. I grew up on "The A Team" , "Knight Rider" and Mcdonalds cheese burgers from 2 years onwards. I am as American as a English person could possibly be. It wasn't until I arrived in Florida and spent two weeks in the great country that I understood the difference in the minds and mentality of people. People were nicer ! People on the whole had a can do mentaily. If your a success people congratulate you for it . Unlike the UK.... Plus people were not scared to make a fool of themselves... (People jumping up and down at traffic lights with advertising boards) Now to my question - I loved it so much I want to go back and I figured me and my wife and 3 year old may have a extended break next time where I can work on vacation maybe over a month or so. I would love to get to know as many SEO's and people based in the USA as possible please and introduce myself etc. Hey who knows maybe SEO Moz can change my future (fingers crossed) Thanks to all the people that get in touch !
