Pointing a sub-domain to a sub-folder in htaccess
-
I have a client who currently uses shopify for there blog. I want to set them up with a separate blog away from the shopify system and host it in Australia.
I know the best option is using a subfolder but as the shopify system is an unmoveable CMS can I somehow point my subdomain to a subfolder and get the benefits of the domain name?
I could do this by using the rewrite rule in the htaccess file.
If I was to do this would it end up cloaking the URL's of the articles?

Well, in that case, I don't think you will be able to set it up as domain/blog. Using a subdomain is likely your only option, blog.domain.
But, I wouldn't worry too much about it since Google doesn't really treat the two situations much differently. Matt Cutts recently commented on this exact situation:

So, I'd go ahead and set up your blog at your secondary host, and point your subdomain to it.

Yes. the blog would be set up on am Aussie host.
It is a custom domain

Are you saying that:
1. Your client has an ecommerce site that uses shopify.
2. You want to set up a blog for their site, on a separate host.
3. But you'd like it to appear as if it were a subfolder of the main site (e.g. mysite.com/blog), rather than a subdomain (blog.mysite.com)?
Is that correct?
And, is the domain a custom domain that points to shopify?

Are .clinic domains effective?
We acquired a .clinic domain for a client, they are right now running under a .ca and I was just wondering if there were any cons to making the switch. On the flip side are there any pros? I've tried to search for the answer but couldn't seem to come across anything, thank you if you have any knowledge or could point me to a resource.

Are domain variations hurting our rank?
Hi, I have a client who registered many different variations of their domain name, that are pointing to the website. Now I see that many high value links are not linking to the main domain, but a hyphen variation. So when the main domain is something like www.brandservicename.com The links go to www.brand-service-name.com I suppose they should change all those links (if possible), but does it really make a difference? Thank you!

Htaccess code to 301 redirect a folder change
Hi, I need some help to redirect all my site as there was a folder change. eg, the old structure was www.mysite.com/stuff-1/bags.html and I need it to go to the same structure without the "-1" eg: /stuff/bags.html

The "bags.html" will be lots of different products, so this would be a wildcard? What would the htaccess code need to be? Thanks0 -

Tutorial For Moving Blogger Blog From Sub-Domain to Sub-Directory
Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial for moving a blogger.com (blogspot) blog that's currently hosted on a subdomain (i.e. blog.mysite.com) to a subdirectory (i.e. mysite.com/blog) with the current version of blogger? I'm working on transferring my blogger blogs over to wordpress, and to do so without losing link juice or traffic, this is one of the steps I have to take. There's plenty of tutorials that address moving from blogspot.mysite.com to wordpress and I've even found a few that address moving from blog.mysite.com (hosted on blogger) to a root domain mysite.com. However, I need to move from blog.mysite.com (blogger) to mysite.com/blog/ - subdirectory (wordpress). Anyone who knows how to do this or can point me in the right direction?? Thanks.

Two domains One hosting account
I have two separate domains set up on one hosting account through godaddy. Will this affect the SEO negatively? They are completely different sites with their own unique domains but on my local files the second domain is set up as a subfolder for the original hosted domain. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

New Sub-domains or New Directories for 10+ Year Domain?
We've got a one-page, 10+ year old domain that has a 65/100 domain authority that gets about 10k page views a day (I'm happy to share the URL but didn't know if that's permitted). The content changes daily (it's a daily bible verse) so most of this question is focused on domain authority, not the content. We're getting ready to provide translations of that daily content in 4 languages. Would it be better to create sub-domains for those translations (same content, different language) or sub-folders? Example: http://cn.example.com

http://es.example.com
http://ru.example.com or http://example.com/cn
http://example.com/es
http://example.com/ru We're able to do either but want to pick the one that would give the translated version the most authority both now and moving forward. (We definitely don't want to penalize the root domain.) Thanks in advance for your input.0 -
