Site dropped after article submissions
-
I have a site about back pain. The name is lower back pain relief. It has a lot of content on how to treat back pain with natural remedies.
I paid for botw.org and yahoo directories as well as submissions from submit edge. My site was doing well within a few months. I was floating around at the bottom of page two for "lower back pain relief" and lower back pain.
I found out about Unique article wizard. I started using that to write and submit articles. Now, my website is not ranking anywhere.
I submitted a request for reconsideration to Google. They said no manual action had been taken.
The question:
How long does this penalty last?
Is that website toast now?
I think it was penalized for using the anchor text too much or adding too many links at once. It has been penalized for about 6 weeks now.

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/another-step-to-reward-high-quality.html was a good share thx I laughed at the spun content. Pay day loan links with work out content... ROFL ...

Have you seen this WBF? In it, Rand does not recommend article marketing (i.e. ezine articles) at all:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/article-marketing-mostly-a-scam-whiteboard-friday
IHMO, most links that you can create completely on your own, are not going to be terribly helpful. The reason why links help a site is because the search engines treat them as a vote for your site. But, if you create links by yourself, it really isn't a vote, is it?

OK. So you are saying my site will come back? I have hesitated to spend any more time on it since it might be dead.
I have learned my lesson. I think that a year ago, it would have been ok.
Do you recommend ezine articles? I also plan to do a lot of guest blogging.. I'm so afraid to do any link building at all now. I have sites on a variety of health issues and am afraid to build links now!
I have my blog guest and blogger link up as the main sites where you can submit your articles for links. Do you recommend naked links like:
I think that looks most natural, as that is how I link to other sites.
Thanks.

Google introduced an update about a month ago for overdoing anchor text links. We have had a few web sites that were penalized exactly for the same reason. They've recently introduced another update that is really hitting spinned articles tactics: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/another-step-to-reward-high-quality.html
Your web site is down in the rankings and it will recover. You just have to compensate the number of links that you have lost with other sources of links like - links from normal article directories, blog posts, etc. Make your next strategy look more natural and difersify the anchor text portfolio by including your "domain name", "visit domainname.com", "click here", "www.Domainname.com", etc. etc. I know it is not an easy thing to replicate those links in terms of volume but I guess you have to deal with it.

Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or postively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please?
Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or positively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please? For example at the bottom of this blog post https://www.poppyandperle.com/post/face-painting-a-global-language the hashtags are linked, but they don't go to a page, they go to search results of all other blogs using that hashtag. Seems a bit of a strange approach to me.

Launch of improved site
Hi, Just want to ask you guys if i have missed something in my planning. We have done a migration from Ithemes Exchange to woocommerce. The complete migration are done on our dev server. It has an exakt setup as our live one. My plan is to change our live version with a backup from our migrated and finished site from our dev site. All of our product links will be intact with accept from some that we have combined in to new ones, the ones that are changed has been redirected with a 301. Will this way of launching our site effect our ranking/seo in some way? Thankful for any thoughts about this one! // Jonas

Sitemap submission for site migration?
Hi mozzers, We're about to migrate 4 domains into 1. Is there a particular way I should generate and submit the sitemap or should I just follow the same protocol as for one domain? Should I even worry submitting a sitemap when the site has this drupal module? I have access to the webmaster tools of all domains, should I do something specific on the accounts that are migrating besides submitting a sitemap? Thanks for letting me know!

Dev Site Was Indexed By Google
Two of our dev sites(subdomains) were indexed by Google. They have since been made private once we found the problem. Should we take another step to remove the subdomain through robots.txt or just let it ride out? From what I understand, to remove the subdomain from Google we would verify the subdomain on GWT, then give the subdomain it's own robots.txt and disallow everything. Any advice is welcome, I just wanted to discuss this before making a decision.

Partial Site Move -- Tell Google Entire Site Moved?
OK this one's a little confusing, please try to follow along. We recently went through a rebranding where we brought a new domain online for one of our brands (we'll call this domain 'B' -- it's also not the site linked to in my profile, not to confuse things). This brand accounted for 90% of the pages and 90% of the e-comm on the existing domain (we'll call the existing domain 'A') . 'A' was also redesigned and it's URL structure has changed. We have 301s in place on A that redirect to B for those 90% of pages and we also have internal 301s on A for the remaining 10% of pages whose URL has changed as a result of the A redesign What I'm wondering is if I should tell Google through webmaster tools that 'A' is now 'B' through the 'Change of Address' form. If I do this, will the existing products that remain on A suffer? I suppose I could just 301 the 10% of URLs on B back to A but I'm wondering if Google would see that as a loop since I just got done telling it that A is now B. I realize there probably isn't a perfect answer here but I'm looking for the "least worst" solution. I also realize that it's not optimal that we moved 90% of the pages from A to B, but it's the situation we're in.

PageRank Dropped?
The Symptoms About a year ago, our site EZWatch-Security-Cameras.com had a PageRank of 5. Several months ago it sunk to a 4 and we were a little worried, but it wasn't anything to really sweat over. At the end of january we noticed it had dropped again to a PR3, again we were a little more worried. When the farmer update hit we suddenly dropped to a PR1 but our traffic wasn't seriously affected, and in march most of the pages regained their PageRank. I noticed this morning that our homepage rank has once again dropped to a PR1. I am waiting to see if there has been any significant drop in traffic, but I haven't spotted anything that stands out significant, aside from an increase in the average cost for our paid search account of about 5%. The Problems We've Spotted Keep in mind that our current website is fairly old (2005) and we are ready to launch a new one. Our current website is running on X-Cart, and we have a few modules added on. Problem 1 - One such module handles a custom kit builder, this area has not been restricted by crawlers and it could be generating a large amount of needless page crawls. Problem 2 - Another module allows "SEO friendly URL's" according to the developer, but what actually happens is a visitor could type in any-url-they-like-for-product-id**-p-11111.html**, where the underlined section is any character string (or lack of), followed by either a product or category indicator and the id for said item. This causes a massive amount of virtual page duplications, and the module is encrypted so we aren't able to modify it to include rel="canonical" tags. Obviously this causes massive amounts of seemingly duplicate content. Problem 3 - In addition to the regular URL duplication, we also recently acquired the domain EZWatch.com (our brand name, easier to remember). That domain name responds with the content from our regular website, and it will be the primary domain name when we change shopping carts. With the second domain name the content could also be considered a duplication. The Solutions We're Working On The website we use was designed in 2005, and we believe that it's reached the end of its useful life. Over the past several months we have been working on an entirely new shopping cart platform, designed from the ground up to be more efficient operationally-speaking, and to provide more SEO control. The new site will be ready to launch within days, and we will start using the new Domain name at the same time. We are planning on doing page-to-page301 redirects for all pages with at least 1 visit within the past 180+ days, according to our Google Analytics reports. We are also including rel="canonical" on all pages. We will also be restricting dynamic sections of our website via the robots.txt file. So What More Can We Do? With your collective SEO experience, what other factors could also be contributing to this decline?
