MozCast metrics: Big movement yesterday - what happened?
-
Hi,
As the title says, looked at MozCast metrics and it's showing some pretty big movement for yesterday.
Anyone see any SERP movement? Or have an idea what happened?
-
I'm happy to hear you've found it useful. We're definitely working on next steps to make it more powerful - should be some cool data coming out on the site and blog over the next few months.
-
Thanks, all sounds good.
The mozcast tool is defiantly something im using more and telling others to look at, it's a nice tool.
So thanks.

I'm not seeing strong evidence of an algorithm update, but it's far from a perfect science. There's flux every day (a lot of it). We're testing an expanded data set that will let us drill down by 20 industry categories and 10+ data centers, but we have to collect enough data to tell what's normal. It could be that 65 degrees is a "hot" day in consumer electronics but a cool day in real estate. It can get subjective fast.
Definitely working on tools to answer those questions, but I don't have much solid information for you about yesterday. Best we know, the moderately high temps we original observed (and they weren't even all that high) were a fluke of changing our data collection method.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the update,
So nothing major to report then? I have been seeing some pretty heavy flux in SERP's and Webmaster World has a few thread about results fluxing quite heavily, I assume this is connected to the individual websites rather then an update or tweaks to the algo.

Mark beat me to the punch Sorry, yeah that was a code change necessitated by some DOM changes Google made around early December. Unfortunately, they were subtle, and we didn't detect them initially.
I'm happy to answer any specific questions/concerns in this thread.
-
uh nice cheers Mark.

Apparently this is reflective of code change made to the system and not algo updates here - see Dr. Pete's tweet here - https://twitter.com/dr_pete/status/288665186951380994 - stay tuned for his blog post

What happens if we remove all the links to internal pages from our homepage?
Hi Moz community, We wanna give a try by removing all the links from homepage to internal pages and keep just a free trial button. Will this impact our SEO anyway? We have nearly 15 important internal pages at 2nd and 3rd hierarchy level. They may drop in rankings but we want to risk for few days to understand how it works. Your opinion please! Thanks

What happens when a de-indexed subdomain is redirected to another de-indexed subdomain? What happens to the link juice?
Hi all, We are planning to de-index and redirect a sub domain A to sub domain B. Consequently we now need to d-index sub domain B also. What happens now to the link juice or page rank they gained from hundreds and thousands of backlinks? Will there be any ranking impact on main domain? Backlinks of these sub domains are not much relevant to main domain content. Thanks

Big ranking drop after 12/Jan/2017
Hello, moz users. Has anyone confirmed that keyword ranking dropped since last few days? I've tracked several keyword ranking by Moz and SEMrush and the ranking dropped big time on both tools today. one of the keywords dropped its ranking from 10 to out of SERP. Mozcast has shown high temperature so I assume there is or has been algo update but I would like to know someone encountered the same issue. Thanks.

What is your hypothesis why Panda/Penguin recoveries happen over months after an algorithm update rather than over night?
We have experienced many scenarios were ranking recoveries from clear Panda and Penguin penalties on our sites don't necessarily happen with the launch of a Panda/Penguin update but instead trickle back in over weeks and months after a confirmed algo update. A good example is shown in the image which shows a panda recovery for a high volume keyword. What is your theory why these ranking recoveries happen over weeks vs instantly? qCWliLF

Anyone seeing big drops in Bing this month?
Seems like our Google rankings are improving on most sites, but BING took a big hit this month for many of the sites we working on. I have never seen them drop like this before. Anyone else seeing the same thing? I am wondering if it is because we are building a lot of brand links vs. keyword links and Bing still wants to see the keyword links. What have you seen?

I have put a big effort into an SEO upgrade on my site and I'm interested in what impact I can expect when the next big update comes. Assuming I have fixed the issues that had been causing my traffic drop.

SERPS Issue. Why is this happening?
All of our pages have been indexed by Google and we are ranking very well thus far. Here is an example of a search where, based on my searches, we rank well. Search for "Indiana ERISA Bond". You can search for any state name followed by "ERISA Bond" and we rank really well (Top of page 1). The pages that should show up for you are here: 1. https://www.suretegrity.com/surety-bonds/indiana/erisa-bond 2. https://www.suretegrity.com/surety-bonds/indiana/erisa My issue is with a different product we offer. Search for "Georgia Mortgage Lender Bond". The pages I would hope to come up, in order of priority, are: 1. https://www.suretegrity.com/surety-bonds/georgia/mortgage-lender 2. https://www.suretegrity.com/surety-bonds/georgia/mortgage-broker-banker-lender When I do my searches I show up at the bottom of page 2 and the URL that is being found is #2 above and not #1. I have spent a LOT of time thinking about this and am in need of some direction. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Alex

Which is better for SEO. 1 big site or a number of smaller sites.
Hello , I am about to create a website with product reviews for a certain niche. What i want to know: Is it better for me to have a site with all reviews , like nicheproductsreviews.com and then have nicheproductsreviews.com/product-one-review.html and nicheproductsreviews.com/product-two-review.html or buy multiple domains to have product name in the domain name, like product-one-review.com and product-two-review.com As far as I understand, first approach consolidates all pages on the same site , consolidating all the link juice to it. However, second approach lets me have the product name in the main domain URL. Which way is better for SEO and why?
