Embed youtube / vimeo pro videos and noframes tag
-
Dear All,
I read somewhere that the use of the
<noframes>tag when embending videos using iframes could be seen as cloacking, because you are delivering something to the people, and something "different" to the search engines.</noframes>
For compatibility with IOs devices, iframe is the way to go with youtube videos, also with vimeo, but so far, any of my videos has been indexed by google.
So, in your experience, what advice would you give to embed videos using those services (youtube, vimeo pro)? Would google index them if you place the old embed code between the <iframe></iframe>tags, without using
<noframes>? Would you say that, without the use of noframes, one is doing cloacking?</noframes>
I want to get my videos indexed, but I do not want to be penalized by google. Technically the use of noframes could be taken as cloacking, but if the content of both videos is the same, then it is not. What do you think?
Thanks for your help,
Daniel

It's unlikely to be harmful since you're not doing anything malicious or misleading.

Takeshi,
Do you think I could hurt my site if I embed the old code between the <iframe>tags?</p> <p>So,</p> <p><iframe codetothevideo>oldembedcode</iframe>
Thanks again,
Daniel

Vimeo Pro can work. Here are some good resources to make sure you are embedding the videos properly:

Hi Takeshi,
Thanks again today for your answer.
This rule that google will not show video rich snippets for youtube/vimeo also applies for videos hosted in a vimeo pro account with community pass deactivated?
Best Regards,
Daniel

What do you mean by getting your video indexed? If you mean showing up as a rich snippet, generally YouTube & Vimeo videos will not show up as rich snippets for your site, you need to host them on your own server. Occasionally, Google will display a video snippet even if the video is from YouTube, but this works with iframed videos as well.

Hreflang Tag great for Google, what about Bing or others?
I've read that the Hreflang Tag is all the rave for International solutions on a per page basis. I haven't read much about what International agencies are using for non-Google search engines such as Bing. Is the common language meta tags the only solution? would love to see an article that addresses this

How to test a geo tagged homepage?
The e-commerance system we have has a geo tagged hompage system so you can set up different homepages based on the user country IP. But I want to test what the default homepage is, if the system can not get the user IP, does anyone know of a way to do this? Also does googles bot, not give an IP for this, or is it always an American IP (even if your site is set to a different country)? Thanks

YouTube & Google + Pages
Hello, Has anyone had luck associating their Google + business page with their YouTube channel? Our YouTube page is associated with our Google + profile (and we would like it to be associated with the Google + business page.) There are numerous articles out there that Google is working on an update to allow the Channel/Google+ business page association but I am wondering if there is news we might have missed. Or if there is a way to get around it? We want to implement video on some site pages and would rather use YouTube code as opposed to customizing a solution. Do most folks think Google will have an easy solution once it at arrives? Meaning if you upload videos to your channel that is currently associated with the profile page, do you think there will be a way to convert everything over to a Google + business page once they unveil an update. Thank you!

Slide show showing up as video in serp
Saw an interesting SERP today that made me wonder how this is working - A search for alaska train tours reveals the Flash slideshow from this page http://www.alaskatours.com/alaska_railroad_packages/alaska_family_tour.htm showing up on the second/third pages. I'm guessing this is the work of a video sitemap perhaps? Unsure how they pulled this off exactly, but I am very interested to see what people think as I could probably use this for a few different sites.

Duplicate Video Onsite - How do you treat this in Sitemap?
How would you handle multiple pages using the same video content? As sometimes it does not make sense to have new videos for every product so you re purpose. Will you still get the effects in search results if the thumbs and video location is duplicated for some product urls?

Multiple Region/Language Solutions
So I understand that this is a fairly broad question but I am trying to work through this on a bunch of different levels with a bunch of different sites that have multiple different issues. First I am wondering if I have an e-commerce site on a .com that is used to serve to different languages and locales around the world. Instead of a Domain.com/ES/ for a site that is supposed to serve Spain and a Domain.com/DE/ for a site that is supposed to serve Germany, we do Domain.com/en_ES/ and Domain.com/es_ES/ for an English and a Spanish version for our consumers that come from Spain. My first question is this a bad way to set this up just from a structure standpoint and my second question is what do I do about duplicate content on different locales but same languages? I am afraid that if I rel=canonical this to 1 region for each language that it may not show up in SE's for other regions but the same language. (Example Brazil and Portugal for Portuguese, Belgium and Netherlands for Dutch, Canada and France for French, Spain and Mexico for Spanish, etc...) Second do the language meta tags actually do anything or not? I am finding mixed opinions on this. Third what is the IDEAL website structure for a website that will serve multiple languages and locales from the same ccTLD? I understand this is not ideal but what is the best setup with this situation? Again I know this is a broad question but I am coming across a lot of e-commerce sites wanting help and dealing with this situation. The duplicate content thing is worrisome and I want good, localized indexing. Thanks!

Canonical tag in preferred and duplicate page
Hi, I have a super spiffy (not) CMS that tends to create some pages at the root level of the site (not where I want it) i.e. www.site.com/page.htm as well as the desired location i.e. www.site.com/category/keyword/page.htm . Now obviously a canonical tag inserted into the URL at the undesired location would be the best option, however the source code is exactly the same for both pages (can’t change this) i.e. if I put the canonical tag that reads www.site.com/category/keyword/page.htm"/> it will appear in the head section of both pages, the desired URL and the non desired URL. Will a canonical tag inserted into the head section of a the preferred URL directing the search engine spiders pretty much to itself cause more grieft than the solution it offers re duplicate content ? Rel-canonical tag
Hi, I'm having some confusion with the rel-canonical tag. A few months ago we implemented the rel-canonical tag because we had many errors specifically duplicate page content come upon the SEOmoz web app (mostly because we use tracking code). I had asked what to do about this and was advised by the SEOmoz web app to implement the rel-canonical tag. However, when I'm working on the Keyword Optimizer Tool, it always checks off that I'm using the rel-canonical tag improperly, and then when I go into our sites' CMS for that page and uncheck "Use Canonical URL", the keyword optimizer tool up's my grade for that correction/that I've made an improvement. So my question is if the page I'm working on is the one I want search engines to find, should I not be using the Canonical URL tag? Should the Canonical URL tag only be used on URL's with the tracking code?
