Q&A alert e-mails no longer contain links back to the question referenced in the e-mail
-
How does everyone feel about no longer having direct links back to questions we may have answered or asked in the e-mails?
Until just recently when somebody commented on a question you had commented on easily you were able to click a link and see if it was maybe another question for you if you had not been clear enough the first time or if you needed to give more info whatever the need you had a link directly to The question referenced in the email.
Now all I can do is click on the person's profile which unfortunately does not get me back to Q&A to reply if needed to any questions.
I have to go through all the steps again and find it strange why you guys would remove the link going straight to the question being referenced in the email.
PS I love you and look the at new e-mails they look great. This is not anything big, but it was a nice advantage, and I will happily give up for all the great stuff you guys are giving us now. However if it would not be a burden I would love to see you back in their how does everyone else feel?
Sincerely,
Thomas Von Zickell

Hi Thomas,
If you could send a screenshot over to our help team, that'd be great. Thanks!

just so you know I don't get the go to question unless I hit review on Web in the e-mail client.

thank you Keri!

On the first screenshot, I'm thinking that maybe images aren't loading. I'll make sure that we have links back to the question that are in text and not just images in the future, but not sure exactly when that rollout will be. Thanks for letting us know!

Hi believe this shows that it is a problem maybe with my mail host? I turned off my spam filter and answer some questions and got the same though. I don't believe Peer1 Exchange mail 1 is at to blame however I will inquire with them if you guys think that is the Reason for this however I must say I've never had an issue with email like this before.
Any thoughts are more than welcome and I have tried three or four different mail clients now. It seems like the issue might be a little bit more complex. Thank you so much for any and all help

We can look at hyperlinking the question, as we'll be doing some more tweaks to the emails.
One of the feature we did add was having the question title in the subject line, so messages about different didn't get lumped together in gmail anymore.
-
On my iPhone5 (Gmail App), it shows up fine.
-
Worth checking that. I don't collect mail on any iOS device. However I do know that we deal with a hugely disproportional number of support issues regarding mail on iOS. Being polite I would say that it "isn't particularly robust".
It is publishers responsibility to test/fix that, as it is a popular enough platform. That doesn't make it any less annoying though.
Might not me that, but that's my immediate suspicion.
-
Earlier, it was the actual question that was hyperlinked. Now, as matbennett said, it's a button. The "Go to question" button.
I hope this helps.
-
Very good point, could be that it made might be my mail client. Using an iPhone five and it's also not showing up as well in sparrow a Mac mail application. It could be that thank you for telling me I'm going to try a different mail.
sincerely,
Thomas

I'm looking at some recent notification emails, and they all have the link back button for me. It is a button rather than a text link now though. I wonder if it isn't rendering correctly in your mail client or something.
Out of interest - what mail client are you using?

Site Explorer shows links as followable but they have nofollow tags
Hello, I am looking at site explorer and sites linking to my site moneyfact.co.uk. I've got thousands of links showing as 'followable' but when i check them they have rel="nofollow" tags. e.g: http://www.dianomioffers.co.uk/partner/moneyfacts.co.uk/brochures.epl?partner=93&partner_id=93&partner_variant_id=33 Why would they show as followable when the links are nofollowed? Thanks Steve

Why is the linking root domains count not increasing
For the last month I have been tracking my backlinks thru open site explorer. Over the same period I have gone on a minor link building exercise via social media, some directories as well as writing fresh new content for the site. However, my backlink count has increased in the Rank Tracker tool but my root linking domains have remain at the same level. Is there a lag or is this because some of these site are not in the open site index? To be specific - I have personally setup follow links from sites like tumblr, posterous, stumbleUpon, delicious and other like these. Would really like to understand the limitations so I can take the appropriate action. Thanks

Where is the best place to add links on my site?
If I'd like to put links to other sites in my site, is it better to have a page named "Our Helpful Links" etc. instead of just adding them to the bottom of an existing page like I've seen on some sites? I'm asking because I'm wanting to make Google as happy as possible and still add them. Just in case it helps to look at the site yourself to give advise its; http://www.allstatetransmission.net If you see anything else there that I should work on feel free to be hard on it, I value any criticism. Thanks, Jeff

Link Diagnosis and Open Site Explorer
I work at a web design firm that's starting to offer SEO to its clients. They want to keep costs down until the SEO side becomes more established, so I've been using mostly free tools to do the SEO. I've been using a website called LinkDiagnosis.com to check backlinks for clients. It says the data is provided by SEOmoz, so I thought it must be pretty reliable. However, I just signed up for the PRO trial to test out all of SEOmoz's tools (& hopefully convince my company to sign us up), and I find that the link information between the 2 tools can be vastly different! Sometimes the number of unique linking domains is very close, but other times it can be off by hundreds, even thousands, with Open Site Explorer typically providing the higher numbers. Is the Link Diagnosis tool really powered with data from SEOmoz, or does it just receive a portion of the data, since it's a free tool? I'm just trying to figure out what will be the most reliable solution for me to keep using, and the discrepancies between the two tools has caused me to question the reliability of both. Thanks, Hector

Internal links not showing in Open Site Explorer
So I'm working on a law firm site and looking at the links for pages in OSE. For practice areas, the links to each practice area are in the left hand menu on every page of the site. Can anyone help me with this question: Example: http://www.comitzlaw.com/personal-injury/car-accidents.html When I plug this URL into OSE, it only shows one linking page, www.comitzlaw.com/practice-areas.html, yet there is a link to this on every other page in the site. When I plug in a random competitors page, www.lesagelblaw.com/Personal-Injury-Overview/Car-Accidents.shtml, it does show all the internal pages linking to it. Since I'm not using a flash menu or javascript, any ideas as to why no internal links are showing up in OSE? Even when I plug in the main URL for the home page, it only shows 4 other internal pages linking to it, yet there is a link on every page. What am I doing wrong?

Keyword Rankings Question
Does the Keyword Rankings tool track all urls or just the main. Example: Say I put www.domain.com to have tracked. Will the Keyword Rankings tool also track www.domain.com/landing-page and any derivative of the main domain or would this be considered a separate campaign. Thanks

Link Count Per Page Including JavaScript Links - Should We Worry About Them?
With large ecommerce sites, we usually have more than 100 links per page and many times have more than 200 links on each page due to links and images in the header, footer, guided navigation and then the body product grid and content. When I use most on-page link counting tools like SEO x-ray and the SEO Moz Pro crawl report, I notice that every visible link on the page gets counted. This includes and javascript based links that expand the product grid to 30, 60 or view all, javascript sorting links, javascript links to view customer reviews for each product. etc. There was a QA post here http://www.seomoz.org/q/should-i-nofollow-the-main-navigation-on-certain-pages about nofollowing and page rank sculpting and it seems pretty unanimous that most don't think that page rank sculpting is very valuable. So my question is, are the javascript links on pages that don't link to another page viewed differently by search engines? If so, shouldn't there be a way to see on-page link count minus javascript call links that don't actually link to another page? To expand a bit on my question, we also use nofollow attributes on the text links in the left navigation that are meant for refining products just as the javascript links in the product grid are meant to refine the products, sort them, allow for product comparison, allow for viewing customer reviews, etc. So should it be ok to have 300 links on a page if the unimportant ones that you don't want crawled like the left navigation refinements and product grid javascript links all have rel="nofollow" applied to them? I know that would basicly be PageRank sculting, but it seems like the best options for shopping sites that have a lot of navigation links.
