Nav / Sitemap Question. Using a "services" page vs just linking directly to individual service page?
-
Okay, so our company offers video production, web design, and web marketing services. While we do offer these services individually, our goal is to get our clients to integrate these services together.
Our nav is currently like so :
home - about - video - web design - web marketing - blog - contact
Now I've seen businesses and agencies also use a nav with a "services" button instead of listing out their service offerings (if they have more than 1, like us). The services button usually links to a category page or has a drop down with links to the company's individual services.
I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a main services page like this and linking to the individual pages off of it (video ,web design, marketing, etc).
Or if we should just keep it the way we have it now (since we've already got some page authority on the individual service pages).
I know this may not be the most important aspect of our site and we may be over-thinking it but any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

It depends how many services you offer. Right now you're listing 3 and that fits fine in your navigation, but at some point you may want to add more services.
I think what you're doing now works, but I'd create a services menu if you have other services.
We can only give you opinions on this forum, so you should test both and see what works better.

I think you are probably over-thinking this one. Adding another all-in-one services page isn't likely to move the needle. Instead of thinking about making another page I would focus on the ideas Doug is suggesting in creating link-worthy content ideas that show use cases for your products/services. For example if you do a case study featuring one of your customers and how you helped them you could probably get it picked up on a few relevant industry blogs and also get your customer to share it socially and maybe even link back to it from their blog. I would focus on giving people reasons to link to your content!
Hope this helps!

Hi, I'd take a step back and think about what your customers are looking for.
You've got to find a way to joining the dots between the problems your customers are trying to solve (their goals) and the services you offer.
If they're looking for something that's going to "get them more business" then they won't necessarily jump to the conclusion that they need video, from you!
This is where you need to have additional pages that connect the things that you can do with the goals of your customer.
So as well as creating individual services pages (which explain the things that you do, and the benefits of your services) you also need to create offerings or solutions pages.
Here you can explain your value proposition, the benefits of your approach and how you can utilise the various services that you offer to deliver the goals that your customers are seeking
Do you target specific niches? for example, web marketing for dentists - You can optimise these offering pages for these niches (both keywords and conversion. You can have a much more relevant conversation with the prospect and show that you understand the particular problems/issues that exist in their niche/industry.
Individual service pages are great for targeting those customers who already know what they want - but you're really talking to people further down the conversion funnel...
If you met your customers in person - how would you sell your offerings....
Does that help at all? Probably not!

Hello,
Web Design | | SharonEKG
i cant seem to figure out how to approach this matter. we have a website and a domain setup in one place and we wanted to setup a blog for that website on a different hosting, what do i have to do to link between the two to make it so when a user type domain com /blog he will get to our blog that is hosted on a different hosting plan? with the blog hosting plan we received a temporary domain that does not expire but i have been told that if i redirect to that temporary domain it wont work correctly also, if we do manage to go through that process will accessing the blog will the URL show domain com/blog or will still show the temporary given domain? is my only option is buying a new domain and just link between the two? Does an age verification home page hurt SEO?
There's a microbrewery in our area that just launched its first website. It has the "verify your age" homepage (which is not really their homepage, but I don't know what it's called) before you can enter. It looks like this: http://angrychairbrewing.com/ Anyway, does this hurt them at all from a rankings standpoint? Also, assuming bots/spiders/ROGER can crawl sites like this, (which I think they would have to be able to do) how do they get around this verification? Thanks, Ruben

Above the Fold Content - Use of large images
Hi All, Our designers have come to the SEO team to ask if have a large image across the top of the page taking up a large majority of the above the fold real estate will impact our SEO. Our initial thoughts are no as long as we have an optimised H1 visibal to the user landing there which informs them what the page is about. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

404 page in Windows IIS. HELP!
I run a real estate website.
Web Design | | Jeepster
My webmaster needs to create a 404 page for listings when they get deleted.
So far all he's come up with is 302-redirect to a standard "error template" page.
Can anyone suggest a 404 how-to guide I can show him?
Thanks0 -
Are there any studies, statistics or measurable impact of using mixed fonts on landing pages?
Are there any studies, statistics or measurable impact of using mixed fonts on landing pages? One of our landing pages is using five variations of the Arial font where size, strength (bold, italics) and color all vary. One camp internally believes that this okay, whereas another camp wants to standardize the presentation where there's less variance (such as a heading as one and the body copy as another). Have you been through a similar trial or test in the past? I've seen some instances of a Marketing Sherpa study on the topic, but no real numbers to support one thing or another. I've attached an example image of our current LP. I have a lot of strong opinions on a number of items - but we're looking to have an immediate internal discussion on the font issue first. Thanks! Flag page elements to not be loaded by Instapaper and co.
Does anybody know if there is a way to mark certain elements (especially navigation menus) so that instapaper and co don't pull them? I'm looking for a quick solution (best would be if it was CSS based) nothing fancy like parsing the user-agent. That would be plan B. I've added role="navigation" id="navigation" and class="navigation" to the nav elements in hope that it would work. Seems like it does not; sometimes the elements are present in the page generated by instapaper, sometimes not. Thank you for any replies and have a great day! Jan

What is the optimal URL Structure for Internal Pages
Is it more SEO friendly to have an internal page URL structure that reads like www.smithlawfirm.com/personal-injury/car-accidents or www.smithlawfirm.com/personal-injury-car-accidents? The former structure has the benefit of showing Google all the sub-categories under personal injury; the later the benefit of a flatter structure. Thanks
