How to Best Manage Multiple Domains?
-
Hi,
I am new here and this is my first question.
(so please excuse if my etiquette slightly off)I have just taken over the SEO work for a website in South Africa (.co.za) it is for an Attorney of immigration law, and naturally I would love to make it into a star on google.
I have about 15 extra keyword domains at my disposal, 5 of them are parked and the rest are not doing anything at the moment. so my question is: what should I do with them to get the best SEO results for their keyword names?
I was thinking to make a WordPress Multi Site, un-park the domains and create a separate site for each domain. Create a visually similar front page, but all the links head back over to the main site. Then work on optimising the SEO for each domain. (lengthy work but it's not too hard to rank in google.co.za)
what do you think?
I also heard that parking domains is a bad Idea, because google sees it as duplicate content; is that so?
website:
www.migrationlawyers.co.zaParked domains:
MigrationLawyers.co.za
MigrationLawyer.co.za
MigrationLawyers.de
ImmigrationLaw.co.za
EmigrationLaw.co.zaKeyword domains: Migration-Attorney.com
Migration-Lawyers.com
MigrationCounsel.co.za
ApplyForPermanentResidencesSouthAfrica.com
AvoidDeportationSouthAfrica.co.za
AvoidDeportationSouthAfrica.com
RetirementVisaSouthAfrica.com
SouthAfricanCitizenship.co.za
SouthAfricanPermits.co.za
StudyPermitSouthAfrica.co.zaThanks a lot,

When your ranking 1, 2 or 3 for your main keywords, depending on how competitive your keywords are. when you don't think your efforts will get you much further. Example don't waste your time trying to beat wikipedia

What do you think is a good "TOP" ? do you think there is a good time to say, hmm that is enough, i can start building the other sites?
Thanks

James is correct, is a lot of effort that you could be putting into your primary site.
If some o ne them have good exact match keywords in the domain, them it may be worth the time.
I have a few sites, selling the same product, but I did this because I already have my primary site performing at its optimum, so them putting time into a second site to crowd the results makes sense, but I would be trying to get the first site to the top first.

Fair enough, and good point!
I wasn't planing to concentrate too much on all the 15 sites.
I think maybe I should heed to your suggestion and make 2-3 sites. So what should I do with the other domains. (my customer told me he has quite a few more, and is waiting for the login details to come through and he will hand them over to me) what is the best way to utilise them?
thank you very much.

To be honest I would focus my efforts into making one or two really good websites rather than making 15 different websites.
Using exact match domains on a larger scale is a lot different in today's market in comparison to say 2 years ago where you could make a 5 pages site and get the EMD ranking.
If you do go with a 15 site strategy, you need to make 15 x sites, 15 x content pieces to make sure its unique, 15x splitting up hosting I would not even use any tracking that can link up the sites imo.

If domain mapping subfolders to TLD's is it perceived as a fully separate entity/site therafter ?
Hi I take it once you have domain mapped a country specific subfolder to a country specific TLD (for better local region targeting reasons) Google perceives it as a completely separate entity and it no longer shares any of the parent sites domain benefits (such as domain authority etc) so from that point on requires its own dedicated link building etc ? Shabaka domain - Impact on SEO
Hi All, I heard about shabaka domain names recently and am not sure if getting a shabaka top-level domain with arabic content help from a SEO stand-point? Currently my Arabic website is on this domain: http://www.tcf-me.ae/ Do you think it is a good idea to get a shabaka domain to target the GCC countries on our Arabic website? Or does it not matter? Thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

IP Address Geolocation SEO - Multiple A records, implications?
Hi, We operate an ecom site, with a .com TLD. The IP address of the hosting is based in France and indeed we seem to see quite a lot of traffic from France. How relevant is the A record of the domain for SEO? Is it still an important signal to help Google geolocate? And, if that is the case, is there a case for having multiple A records for the domain? Like an IP Address in France, an IP address in Italy, etc... that way the domain would have multiple A records... Thank you

E-Commerce - Country Domains versus 1 Domain?
Hi, Just wanted to get some feedback and opinions re the idea of segmenting our ecommerce site languages under various domains, like .jp for japanese, .it for italian etc... I do understand the geolocation benefits that this could bring us, but on the flipside, it would mean that we would need to grow our domain authority, link buiding per country domain, which is quite a bit of work. Has anyone ever considered or implemented this and any thoughts? Thanks!

Working with country specific domain names vs. staying with .com
I've recently inherited a client that has a country specific domain for Canada (.ca) but there is also a US branch for the company at the .com address. They have a direct competitor that operates also in the U.S. and Canada that has decided to operate entirely under the .com address and re-direct all .ca traffic to their .com address. When I compare the link analysis data for both the .ca, .com, and competitors site, I'm finding there is a huge difference between the .ca site and the competitors site, but not a huge difference between the .com site and the competitors site. For example, the domain authorities are as follows: myclient.ca (Canadian branch) - 22 myclient.com (US branch) - 46 competitor.com - 53 When I do a brand search for my client in Canada, the Canadian branch website shows up first, but the American one is second. At this point, would it be better for my client to consolidate the two branches into the .com address and focus on increasing external followed links to the .com website? Or, is there merit in continuing to create a separate inbound link strategy for the .ca site? Thanks.

Best practice for multi-language site?
Recently our company is going to expand our site from just english to multi-language, including english, french, german, japanese, and chinese. I deeply understand a solid and feasible plan is pretty important, so I want to ask you mozzers for help before we taking action! Our site is a business site which sells eBook software, for the product pages, the ranks are taken by famous software download sites like cnet, softonic, etc. So the main source of our organic traffic is the guide post, long-tail keywords. We are going to manually translate the product pages and guide post pages which targeting on important keywords into other languages. Not the entire english site. So my primary question is: should I use the sub-domain or sub-category to build the non-english pages? "www.example.com/fr/" or "fr.example.com"? The second question: As we are going to manually translate the entire pages into other languages, should I use the "rel=alternate hreflang=x" tags? Because Google's official guideline says if we only translate the navigations or just part of the content, we should use this tag. And what's your tips for building a multi-language site? Please let me know them as much as possible Thanks!
