hi, i need work done on my site but i am not sure how to find a trusted web developer.
i know there are people out there that do this kind of work but how do you find a good one, and one that is in within budget.
if anyone can let me know how i can find someone who can upgrade my joomla site to the latest version and how i can find a trusted developer then that would be good.

SEOmoz has a recommended list at http://www.seomoz.org/article/recommended.
-
is there anywhere that i can get a recommended person who does this type of work instead of employing people that do not come recommended

You can post a job on Inbound.org for $50 for 30 days. Typically, higher caliber and quality experts will view the jobs on this site. http://www.inbound.org/jobs
You can also try Odesk or Elance but the results there can definitely vary.

Massive drop in sales - how do I find out why?
I am working with my client managing/maintaining their online store. We have been making big improvements to onsite SEO, improved URL structures (complete with re-directs) etc, we use Yoast Premium to optimise pages for search and Yoast Local. We have a bounce rate of around 20%, however, suddenly in mid August, our revenues virtually vanished overnight. Moz is reporting a search visibility drop of 51%, while visitor levels remain fairly average, certainly no drops that can be compared with the sudden loss of conversions. I am at a loss and cannot fathom why our sales have dropped. Can anyone suggest where I might look? Many thanks Bob

An expert opinion would be much appreciated.
Another story about a site that has been trashed by Penguin/Panda. My site's been around for 10 years. It's had ups and downs but right now it is WAY down. The site is in a competitive arena but I am targetting less competitive niches within and I can confirm these are much less competitive, quite specialised and only people with relevant experience can produce content of any value. (that's not saying people can't produce abundant garbage that ranks!) According to Google there are no manual spam actions but pages that once had top 5 positions are now nowhere to be found. Pages that contain links to these once popular pages are appearing in SERPS but not the pages themselves. Or at least I've not trawled below page 50..... I'm trimming away old pages and low content pages and I'm going to start cleaning up backlinks (already got rid of a few old sitewide links but things have just got worse!). It truly is as though ex-high ranking pages are having their heads held under the water but I don't know why and I can't understand why considerably lower quality pages are ranking but mine are not. I don't overoptimise and I design pages to contain helpful content and the service people receive is also good quality (I have testimonials!) What I need is just someone to take a look and help me understand why my site has been slammed and what steps I need to take. There is no doubt the site is being held back. I've read several articles on what to do to improve things and I am working on it but I would love an expert opinion. Can anybody offer some suggestions & what would you need from me...?

404 error - but I can't find any broken links on the referrer pages
Hi, My crawl has diagnosed a client's site with eight 404 errors. In my CSV download of the crawl, I have checked the source code of the 'referrer' pages, but can't find where the link to the 404 error page is. Could there be another reason for getting 404 errors? Thanks for your help. Katharine.

Redirected Subdomain Development URLs Showing In SERPs?
I develop client websites within a subdomain of another website (with noindex, nofollow so that incomplete websites on the wrong domains aren't ever seen by web users). Then, when we launch a client's site on their own domain, we redirect all of the development URLS to the appropriate page on the new live site. (meaning at site launch, all pages on http://client-site.developersite.com would be set to 301 redirect to identical pages pages on http://www.client-site.com). This system has always seemed to work fine, but today I discovered 94,700 pages indexed by Google on my root domain and found that these were mostly old URLs of sites in development that redirect to the actual client sites. Many are several years old. Any idea why Google would be indexing these pages? Thanks in advance!

How do you find bad links to your site?
My website has around 900 incoming links and I have a Google 50 penalty that is sitewide. I have been doing research and from what I can see is that the 50 penalty is usually associated with scetchy links. The penalty started last year. I had about 40 related domains to my main site and each had a simple one page site with a link to the main site. (I know I screwed up) I cleaned up all of those links by removing them. The single page site still exist, but they have no links and several of them still rank very well. I also had an outside SEO person that bought a few links. I came clean with Google and told them everything. I gave them all of my sites and that the SEO person had bought links. I gave them full disclosure and removed everything. I have one site that I can't get the link removed from. I have contacted them numerous times to remove the link and I get no response. I am curious if anyone has had a simular experience and how they corrected the situation. Another issue is that my site is "thin" because its an ecommerce affiliate site and full of affiliate links. I work in the costume market. I'm also afraid that I have other bad links pointing to my site. Dooes anyone know of a tool to identify bad links that Google may be penalizing me for at this time. Here is Google's latest denial of my reconsideration request. Dear site owner or webmaster of XXXXXXXXX.com. We received a request from a site owner to reconsider XXXXXXXX.com for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. We've reviewed your site and we believe that some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines. When such changes have been made, please visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration?hl=en and resubmit your site for reconsideration. If you have additional questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support. Sincerely, Google Search Quality
