What should I do on a limited budget of $2,000/mo
-
Hello everyone
I have started a new small business which currently we do only PPC marketing. We are spending roughly $1,700 per week in this medium, and would rather invest this money into getting ourselves organic. I am trying to figure out how we can best invest what money we have without stopping the PPC campaign, as we are only a month old with a limited budget ($2,000 month to spend on SEO).
Our website right now has a fair amount of content, and we are blogging 3x a week at around 700-1000 words average per blog. We have zero backlinks at the moment, or at least from what I can see on opensiteexplorer, and of course this is expected. I have used seomoz to optimize my pages, and keyword tool to figure out which keywords we want to go after. Some of the better keywords available seem like it would be very hard to get on Google first page as most of the links are authorative .edu/.gov links.
So we dont know exactly where to invest now. All our pages are optimized well via the seomoz tool, we get an A on all our pages for certain keywords. It seems to me the next step would be back links building, but I want to make sure and hire a reputable company (going to use the SEOMOZ recommended list) so we dont have issues in the future.
Before doing so I was hoping to get some input from everyone here as to what might be the best path to take on a limited budget. What are my priorities lets say if we could rank them? I should probably mention we are on facebook with 50 likes and about 50 shares via the blogs.
We are ranking on some of our keywords (only one first page on bing/yahoo, none on google), but I take this as a good sign for only having this website up for about 10 days. We have another website at first put up really quickly by a friend, then went to our new site.
Thanks for the help

If the website you are looking at is the one in your profile, then I'd look at improving your content so that it is easy to digest. Right now you have really long articles that aren't broken down with different headers. So, I can't quickly scan it to see if I even want to read it.
Anyway, a blog alone isn't going to succeed. You need to create a social media presence to gain attention for your blogs, and make them super easy to share/like/tweet/+1. That way they can potentially go viral.

First of all Congrats on the new website!
I am glad that you are serious about your marketing investment as most small businesses are more focused towards conversions no matter where they are getting from... off course PPC offer quick returns but investing heavily on PPC and ignoring organic is a worst business strategy I could ever imagine.
Anyways, in my personal opinion the budget is fair enough to start a comprehensive SEO campaign that offer REAL results and greater ROI. All you need to do is to invest it smartly!
1. Invest on Local 1st
If you are a local business (even if you are not but have a physical location) try to heir someone for local SEO submissions only!
Submitting a website to local maps, yellow pages websites and business data aggregators is a onetime game so the charges won’t be too much! If you have time you can even do it yourself by reading a blogs about how to go with local SEO.
2. On-Page SEO Audit and Implementation
With Local SEO try and find a SEO consultant who is ready to audit your website from the on-page point of view and fix the problems within the website accordingly. This will be on technical as well as on the content and design side.
**Target to achieve Local and On-Page optimization for the 1st month.
3. Social Media
This is a powerful ranking factor and can really help you lift your rankings in search engines but for a start I would advise you to start with using social media by your own and do not give it to the third party!
The major reason behind this is not only to save money but social Media is a platform where you can set your brand image in the online world so try to start by yourself as you know your business best! Later you can give your consultant to handle and manage your social media entities.
4. Link building
Now your Local and On-page is perfectly fit and you are done with your first month now hire a smart link builder to start with link building and management! I believe 2k a month for quality link building is a fine budget!
Over all your work to look in to different aspect will increase but as a result you will be able to get quality SEO services within your budget. Once you see some results started to appear in the SERPs and website started to give quality conversions... this is the time to increase your SEO budget and start with advance inbound tactics to grow audience around your brand and get 1st page rankings from the desired key phrases.
Hope this helps!

Yep, that's understood completely. I just don't want to wait around for 3 months to find out what we are doing is not enough and our rankings stink. Then after that period hire someone to help us which will take another 3 months. I want to do this correctly from today, we just don't have unlimited funds so I am trying to figure out what is the most important next step for us.
If it helps, we are a service business that does all our sales over the phone, no internet sales.

I do need to do more research on making our PPC better. Right now I do it myself and do not have much experience other than a few weeks of optimizing. I feel like all of our competitors are doing the same thing and hardly any are organic, and isn't something like 94% of all clicks organic? So there's a lot of clicks to be hard vs continuing only using PPC

Launching a new website and creating content is a lot like farming. You plant the seeds, water and wait. But then the harvest will come. Also from a consumer point of view the internet is instant gratification. Buy -> Ship -> Consume. But on the flip side...its a waiting game. Congrats on the new website!

Getting any site off the ground is hard. You gotta pound the internet pavement (so to speak). What I would do is find where your potential customers or users are, and get them to engage with your site. This could mean forums, social networks (Facebook, Twitter, G+, Quora, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc), or possibly PPC. If you're not selling something, getting a good return on ad spending can be hard.
Do you guys have experience managing PPC? There's a lot you can do with display advertising these days (retargeting, custom lists in Google Analytics, similar users, managed placements, demographics, audiences, topics, and so on). You might consider tuning your budget down and only keep the highest ROI campaigns enabled, and devote the rest of your budget to other efforts.

2 Facebook Company Pages - Best way to merge
Hi I am about to set up a Facebook company page under our current brand name Key - however in March we'll be re-branding to Manutan UK. I didn't want to wait until March to start using Facebook (we're so behind!) but when we re-brand what are the best steps to take. Here are my options - I'd love some help! 1. Set up a Key company to actively use now & a separate Manutan page just to secure the page - only using Key until March then merge the business pages (I did read however Facebook won't allow it if the names are different?) 2. Set up a Key page now & in March request a name change of the page & vanity URL We obviously don't want to lose any likes/followers we've gained between now & March Does anyone have any advice or experience with this? Thank you

G+ places/local - Company Categories and Pages question
I have two questions about google places/local and Personal/Company Pages Regarding Local and the categories section. Should you be using strictly the predefined categories they have? or should you be creating your own? Also say you're a car repair shop for instance. If you should be creating your own such as 'truck repair' should the city be in there as well 'Truck Repair New York/New York Truck Repair(keyword or location first?)' When it comes to company and personal g+ places, i understand doing the rel author and its bennefits but what is the correct way about tagging this? For instance in Wordpress, Studiopress has a section in the profile for the user g+ profile that will rel author it, and Yaost SEO says 'if you have a business page, insert it here and link your personal page as a contributor to the business page' Should we be filling in both sections? or does this cause a conflict? Adding these items is very easy to do, but would rather do it right the first time then circle back and have to correct everything. Any feedback/input is appreciated. Thanks,

Google Auth and brands/individuals problem
So you can auth pages with personal google+ profiles - and its being suggested by some that this could now help rankings if that person has lots of people in their circles. So what about brand/companies content? why cant they auth the content with their Google+ profile to get the content ranking better. It doesn't seem right an individual blogger can do this but a company cannot who has written lots of guides. An example is a holiday company has written some awesome content on resorts around the World - how to use the auth for that content to rank higher? - currently only possible to link up an individual as writing the content not the brand/company itself. Any suggestions on this much appreciated. I do not want to lose any gain there might be from this new bonus given from Google.

Are links from Pinterest 'do follow'/do they have any SEO benefit?
Afternoon all, I know there is a question about Pinterest that was asked in February but I guess it was a fairly new beast then and people were still unsure about its use for marketing/SEO etc. I run an events business and on our Pinterest profile I tend to pin random stuff I find on the net, themes we are running (directly from our website) and other Pinterest users. I have received several 're-pins' and people are really starting to follow us now. What I am keen to know is whether or not having lots of followers/re-pins on Pinterest has the same effectiveness from an SEO perspective as having lots of Facebook/Twitter/Google+ followers and whether or not these re-pins are 'do follow' links or have any SEO benefit whatsoever? Many thanks Rob ps: Pinterest page is http://pinterest.com/eventa/ , if anyone has any tips on how to better utilize this then that would also be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hoping someone could take some time to give me some feedback / advice. Thanks!
Hey guys, I want to give you a bit of background to help you understand what I'm trying to do, and the motivation why. I understand that there are a variety of opinions and beliefs regarding what I'm trying to do online, and I hope this post doesn't turn into a list of everyone's views, or a place for someone to say mean / disrespectful things regarding what I'm doing. I feel like this group is a professional one, so I don't think any of what I've mentioned above will be a problem. Last year we were surprised to learn (in the delivery room) that our first child was born with Down syndrome. Not having any interaction with anyone with Down syndrome I had no idea what my new life was going to be like and set out to find some information online (videos, blogs, etc.) I was surprised to learn that there isn't much quality content out there. Much of the information is outdated, cheesy, lame, etc...In fact many of the videos that I found by searching online about Down syndrome were by people making fun of those born with Down syndrome (comedians, etc.) Very few of them gave me any sort of idea what the future over our family was going to be like. A few months went by, I met many many parents and others who personally knew someone with Down syndrome whose lives have been greatly enriched by their interaction. In addition to that I realized that our life was much more normal than I could have ever imagined. In addition I released that there have been tremendous medical advances in the last two decades and today children born with Down syndrome can attend regular classes, attend college, get married, have jobs, and live productive life's. They no longer ride "short buses", forced to stay in special needs classes, or destined to live a life in some sort of institution. I was surprised that our son (at 3 weeks old) was going to physical / occupational / speech therapy at such a young age. The idea today is that children born with Down syndrome work hard at a young age to stay ahead of the curve. I couldn't believe the things they had him doing at such a young age. (At just a few months old they had him on a treadmill so he could get a head start on learning to walk! ----> http://noahsdad.com/treadmill/) All of that to say, I decided I wanted to be an online resource to help give people an idea of what life is really like raising a child born with Down syndrome. I do a daily one minute video where I'm creating an online narrative by telling his story every day.

I have a growing Facebook page (http://facebook.com/noahsdadcom) and twitter account (http://noahsdad.com/) and our blog readership is growing everyday.
I own a lot of good domains, and am trying to figure out the best way to use them to create awareness. I've been trying to read about SEO as much as I can. I've only been going on NoahsDad.com since May and my page rank is 4. (I'm not sure if that really means anything, but just wanted to share it.) All of the SEO info can be a bit overwhelming and I'm not sure I'm doing things the best way. I was wondering if someone would mind taking a look at my site and I'll be happy to give any info you need (info from google webmaster tools / antlytics, etc…).
I think I'm doing all the 'basics." But I'm not sure what I need to be doing to really step it up. I think the tag line / title page for the home page could be changed up, and perhaps doing some different things on my home page. When I first started my idea was to have a few different categories, Noah's Minute (which is where I was going to put my daily video), resources (posts counting helpful info), Noah's Mom, MD (medical posts by my wife who is a doctor), twitter/iPhone photos (I used one of these catigories and excluded it from my home page to post random pictures form twitter).. Not that I'm 6 months into it, I've relaized that it didn't work out the way I thought at first..every post is a Noah's Minute post pretty much (and lots of twitter pictures)…and the Noah's minute posts could be broken down into sub - categories. Or…I could not have a "noah's minute" category and change my catagories to "resources" "therapy" "toys" "how-to's" etc…and break up what I used to call "Noah's Minute" into those categories..if that makes sense. The reason I didn't do that before is that I wanted someone to be able to watch every video in the order they were created to see the whole story..since I'm doing one minute every day, someone could come and watch his story unfold from birth until present day..but I guess you wouldn't really need a category for that…you could just go to the last page of the blog. The key words I'm trying to rank well for (and I know some of these wont't be possible) are: Down syndrome Down syndrome videos Down syndrome facts Down syndrome information Down syndrome Blogs (I actually own the domain downsyndromeblogs.com as well..I wanted to make a list type website where i list out a lot of the good blogs on down syndrome) Down syndrome families Down syndrome pictures Down syndrome toys (I own this domain also…thinking of doing an amazon affliate page or something..) Down syndrome physical therapy Down syndrome occupitonal thearpy Down snydrome speech thearpy Also there are some mis-spelling of these terms that I would like to try to rank for as well..and I'm not sure how to do that in a post without my post looking like I made an error. I know that is a lot of info, but I wanted to lay everything out there. I'll be happy to post any more details that anyone needs to help me out.
Thanks again and I'm looking forward to the feedback. Rick NoahsDad.com UPDATE: I thought I would include a picture for you guys to see what your dealing with...! 🙂 Warning: His cuteness is contiguous! down-syndrome-cute-boy-halloween1.jpg26 -

Why is FailBlog allowed to make 2,000 dollars a day posting OTHER PEOPLE's videos?
So if FailBlog makes about 2 grand a day in YouTube revenue for posting other people's videos, then why can't someone just make their own FailBlog? In other words, someone could simply download all of FailBlog's videos, and remove their logo, and publish the videos on youtube as their own. Afterall, FailBlog doesn't own the videos anyway. Neither YouTube nor FailBlog seems keen on vetting videos - to see the rightful owner. Yet they are happy to both profit from videos of ambiguous ownership. Or, even, unambigous ownership. e.g. its obvious failblog doesnt own this media http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNQLmHKlmiE
