Why is our page will not being found by google?
-
Hi,
We have a page that went live nearly 2 months ago. https://www.invoicestudio.com/Secure/InvoiceTemplate
Why does google not notice it. Both site: URL's return nothing.
site:www.invoicestudio.com/Secure/InvoiceTemplate
site:www.invoicestudio.com/Secure
This is an important page for us and do not understand why google doesn't like it.
Hope you can help
Thanks
Andrew

Andrew,
I notice that this page is the only page in the footer links that uses the absolute path with https://www..., that has the https:// included in the rel canonical tag, and that doesn't redirect to the http://www. version.
For example, if I am on that invoice template page and I hover over the "How It Works" link in the header, or the "Contact Us" link in the footer, both end up redirecting me to the http://www. version of the page even though the links from the Invoice Template page go to https://www... Both of those pages also have rel canonical tags that use http instead of https, unlike the invoice template page.
If you truly need the page to be https that's one thing, but if not my guess is that updating the footer link (and other links to that page), as well as the rel canonical tag, and adding the redirect like you have on the other pages should result in the page being indexed.

Hi Andrew,
I saw this particular page being served over SSL. I don't see a reason that this page to be served over HTTPS. If you want Google to crawl and index it, put it outside the secured portion of your website. I have seen this issue many times in the past. It is as simple as this:
"If you want search engines to crawl and index any resource of your website, you better keep it out of the secured portion of it"
Hope this helps my friend.
BTW, Google does not index all of your pages served over SSL and ideally, the HTTPS portion of your website should be blocked from search engines otherwise, the purpose behind it is not served.
In Google search engine, you can check for HTTPS URLs in Google's index as follows:
site:invoicestudio.com inurl:https
Best regards,
Devanur Rafi.

Would You Redirect a Page if the Parent Page was Redirected?
Hi everyone! Let's use this as an example URL: https://www.example.com/marvel/avengers/hulk/ We have done a 301 redirect for the "Avengers" page to another page on the site. Sibling pages of the "Hulk" page live off "marvel" now (ex: /marvel/thor/ and /marvel/iron-man/). Is there any benefit in doing a 301 for the "Hulk" page to live at /marvel/hulk/ like it's sibling pages? Is there any harm long-term in leaving the "Hulk" page under a permanently redirected page? Thank you! Matt

Will Reduced Bounce Rate, Increased Pages/Session, Increased Session Duration-RESULT IN BETTER RANKING?
Our relaunched website has a much lower bounce rate (66% before, now 58%) increased pages per session (1.89 before, now 3.47) and increased session duration (1:33 before, now 3:47). The relaunch was December 20th. Should these improvements result in an improvement in Google rank? How about in MOZ authority? We have not significantly changed the content of the site but the UX has been greatly improved. Thanks, Alan

Landing pages, are my pages competing?
If I have identified a keyword which generates income and when searched in google my homepage comes up ranked second, should I still create a landing page based on that keyword or will it compete with my homepage and cause it to rank lower?

Does putting a Google custom search box on make Google think my users are bouncing?
I added a Google custom search box to my pages, that's doing an advanced Google search. A lot of people are using it. So users are coming to my site from a Google search, and then often performing another Google search on my site. Should I be worried that Google may interpret the resultant user behavior as a bounce or pogo-stick? Or will the fact that the second search occurred on my site, using custom search, and with advanced parameters signal to Google that this is not a dissatisfied user returning to Google? Thanks

Are links to on-page content crawled / have any effect on page rank?
Lets say I have a really long article that begins with links to <a name="something">anchors on the same page.</a> <a name="something"></a> <a name="something">E.g.,</a> Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc, allowing the user to scroll down to different content. There are also other links on this page that link to other pages. A few questions: Googlebot arrives on the page. Does it crawl links that point to anchors on the same page? When link juice is divided among all the links on the page, do these links count and page rank is then lost? Thanks!

Alexa site title shows as "302 Found" on search result pages
If you search for the site "ixl.com" in Alexa, for some reason, it's showing the site as "302 Found" instead of showing the website name, IXL. If you drill into that, it shows the site as ixl.com, but underneath that, it says "302 Found" again. Every other site I search for seems to show the site's name properly. I have no idea where it's getting this "302 Found" from. Does anyone know how to fix this? Here's a link directly to the search results page: http://www.alexa.com/search?q=ixl.com
