Doubt between sub-directory and sub-domain for develop Blog for my business website
-
Hi,
I am much aware with SEO. But still there is a confusion in my mind. I am in the process of making blog for my Business website. I am confused between whether my blog should be with sub-directory(www.metaoption.com/ blog) or with sub-domain(blog. metaoption.com). There are many articles on this topic but they have created much confusions.
Please suggest me the best option and also give me reason behind it if you can.
Thanks

Thanks @Federico Einhorn and @Marcus Miller
I am already aware of these things. But you can find other articles those have huge contradictions. I know it will give much befits. But still I wanted to strengthen my point.
Thanks a lot

This is totally right. Search the Q&A and find many, many instances of this question.
Likewise, there is a solid post here going into the reasons:
http://moz.com/blog/understanding-root-domains-subdomains-vs-subfolders-microsites
I also like the common sense approach. Is your blog part of your site? Yes? Then have it as part of your site. Are you going to write around the topic of your products and services? Yep, Great. Then have it as part of your site so you can link them when natural to do so.
As it happens, blogs are what can earn links and shares and commercial pages rarely do this so consider it a tool to drive traffic and potentially inflate the sites popularity through links and shares and all that jazz.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I would definitely go with the sub-folder. It's a blog about your Website, then why having it outside your domain? Subdomains are considered different domains, therefore any link juice you get to your blog is going to help your main business site (yes if you have links to it, but with every step search engines go to reach your site, value of the link is diluted).
This question has been asked over and over at Moz Q&A and there's always the same response. A blog related to your business should be in the main business domain.
Hope that helps!

Using Sub Domains For Back Linking
Hey Guys! I'm building links for my page and happened upon the "Hoth" link building page. I tried it out and it built some no follow links and some links on several sub domains. I know that, when back linking via guest posting, no follow links do not juice my site. My question is, does building links on a subdomain from another company juice my site? If it's not helpful, could you explain why? Does it juice my site in any way? If you could link sources, I would really appreciate it. Also, do any of you have input on Hoth or platforms like it? Are they worth it? Thank you!

Country Specific Domain
Guyz, we are new startups and have one very simple question regarding domain name. Should we use example.com or example.com.au ? Our Goal initially would be to target customer from Australia and gradually go global. So if we opt for .com.au we may have an edge in terms of local SEO in the beginning but lose out in the long run. What is the best way to tackle this? Thanks

Correct linking to the /index of a site and subfolders: what's the best practice? link to: domain.com/ or domain.com/index.html ?
Dear all, starting with my .htaccess file: RewriteEngine On
Technical SEO | | inlinear
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.inlinear.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://inlinear.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.html
RewriteRule ^(.)index.html$ http://inlinear.com/ [R=301,L] 1. I redirect all URL-requests with www. to the non www-version...
2. all requests with "index.html" will be redirected to "domain.com/" My questions are: A) When linking from a page to my frontpage (home) the best practice is?: "http://domain.com/" the best and NOT: "http://domain.com/index.php" B) When linking to the index of a subfolder "http://domain.com/products/index.php" I should link also to: "http://domain.com/products/" and not put also the index.php..., right? C) When I define the canonical ULR, should I also define it just: "http://domain.com/products/" or in this case I should link to the definite file: "http://domain.com/products**/index.php**" Is A) B) the best practice? and C) ? Thanks for all replies! 🙂

Multilingual Website - Sub-domain VS Sub-directory
Hi Folks - Need your advice on the pros and cons of going with a sub-domain vs a sub-directory approach for a multi lingual website. The best would be a ccTLD but that is not possible now, so I would be more interested in knowing your take on these 2 options. Though, I have gone through http://www.stateofsearch.com/international-multilingual-sites-criteria-to-establish-seo-friendly-structure/ and this somewhat vouches for a sub-directory, but what would you say'?

Redirecting Parked Domain
I just recently switched hosting. We have 3 domains and 1 being the main domain. Right now they are set up as parked domains. Can I redirect the parked domains under my main websites .htaccess file ? I am just worried that good we will get hit for duplicate content, even though technically the content is only on our main domain. right now if I type in my parked domains in Google, they appear in search. The site is all hand coded and not using a CMS.

Need specifics about mod_proxy for blog domain and 301s
I am getting the IT staff to move our blog from "blog." to "/blog" using mod_proxy for apache, but I had a couple of questions about this I was hoping someone here might be able to help with. Is it correct that just setting up mod_proxy will make the blog available at both URLs? the "blog." subdomain and the "/blog" folder? If so, what is the best way to 301 redirect all traffic from "blog." to "/blog"? I assume this could be handled with a blanket 301 style rewrite, but I wanted to get some other opinions before getting with my IT guys to do it. I am technical enough to talk about this, but not do it myself, so experienced opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Linking to related business?
If your working with a local business, is it a good idea to reach out to similar businesses in other states and ask for a link? Example: I own a paint shop in Minnesota, and I reach out to a paint shop in California to see if we want to link to each others site to help our SEO. Because we aren’t in competition with each other wouldn’t this help us both?

Our Development team is planning to make our website nearly 100% AJAX and JavaScript. My concern is crawlability or lack thereof. Their contention is that Google can read the pages using the new #! URL string. What do you recommend?
Discussion around AJAX implementations and if anybody has achieved high rankings with a full AJAX website or even a partial AJAX website.
