More Traffic From Lower Rankings?
-
I have access to analytics for two different sites that rank for the same keyword. Strangely, the site that ranks on page 3 gets three times as much traffic as the site that ranks on page 1 (rankings according to multiple SEO tools as well as my own browser).
How is this possible?

Obviously then have other sources of traffic than the keyword you are looking at.
Never assume that there is a single source of traffic. Dive deeper into the analytics. You will probably learn something.
Also, it is possible that the rankings that you are looking at have been composed by google "for your eyes only".

As Doug mentions I would look at local search in the first instance. If relevant check out the keyword traffic by country of origin in analytics. Rankings can change quite a lot depending on country, might be that the site on page 3 where you are looking is page one in other places. Also depending on the country/audience your first site might have a much higher percentage of 'not provided' which could be hiding the real number of visits for that keyword.

Click through in the SERPS can be affected by a number of things, but a site ranking on page 3 getting more traffic for that keyword than a page 1 site? Wow!
If you're sure the ranking are a true reflection of what everyone else is seeing for that particular keyword... (without knowing the keyword/sites then it's impossible to be specific)
What's the difference in the way the two sites are presented in the SERPS? Do they have equally compelling titles/snippets that invite searchers to take action? What about reputation/trust? Is one of the sites a known name? Does the URL or title look spammy? Is one page heavily shared so appears on people's personalised searches? What about author mark-up?
How well does the search snippet answer the "am I going to find what I'm looking for?" question?
What about searching from mobile / local search? Is one of the sites getting a lift because people searching for the keyword in relation to their known or implied location?
How complicated/niche/specific is the keyword and what is the intent? If the keyword is very specific or in a very niche market then people may be willing to dive deeper through the search results to find the answer they're looking for.
What does google webmaster tools tell you about the average position for the search term for the two sites?
Edit: Meant to ask - what traffic volume are we talking about and what's the difference between the numbers for each site?

Hi,
Is the bigger traffic organic from google results based on that keyword? Or do you mean traffic overall?

.com site referral traffic to ccTLDs
We have 7 international domains set up along with our main .com site. All of the ccTLds are showing their main referral traffic as coming from the .com site in GA, and most of those being from mobile. Each site is set up correctly with geo-targeting and hreflang tags. Has anyone experienced this before?

Universal Analytics - is it awarding traffic incorrectly ?
A few days ago deployed a new site. A funny thing happened within one day. Google Analytics commenced reporting Organic traffic as lifting by 25%. At the same time Google Analytics commenced reporting that direct traffic dropped by 25%. All other traffic sources remained at the same level. This is all being reported through GA Universal. Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice is appreciated. Also noted that with Google Webmaster is reporting, since the day of the new site deployment, a 40% drop in impressions and click. Reported referrals on this deployment day also went through the roof. All of the Google tools I am depending on are not supporting my discovery of a solution to this. If anyone has been through this on universal analytics or traditional analytics please help! Offering lots of good karma points in return. Cheers.

How can I track my rankings on Google Images?
I noticed a small amount of traffic coming from a particular very generic keyword. Being pleasantly surprised that we are ranking for this, and after some digging, I found that we are actually ranking in Google images, rather than in the web results. How can I track whether other keywords are ranking in Google images? I use Rank Checker to track keywords in the main web results, but this doesn't have a function for Google Images. Help please - thanks.

Why is my traffic dropping so hard?
Hi guys, My traffic has been dropping pretty hard from just over 3k to around 250 in the last few days. I've ran a few tests using Google webmaster tools and Open Site Explorer, as well as answering a pretty cool quiz that was created by an SEO to determine if I'm the victim of any Google updates etc, and everything is looking okay... What do you think could be causing this issue? We're only just gearing up to start on a SEO campaign. At the moment no SEO is being done other than just casual blogging. CcZoXP7.png

GA stopped tracking traffic, suddenly, why¿? :-/
2 days ago GA stopped receiving data. It only stopped for one account of all my projects. At this moment there are 5 persons navigating the site and these days there where numerous visitors as they contacted the support team thru the site. GA says that it's receiving the code, hw, I checked it twice. The tracking code is located below the footer, in the body. It was there for few years.... I also checked if there is some js conflict, negative. Is there something that could make the tracking to stop? Does anybody experienced similar problems¿? Should I be worried...¿? (and with SEOmoz server with issues not sure when will see new results.......) EDIT: In Web Master Tools I see results for indexing, with yesterday date, so I assume that the site crawling is ok and must be GA issue.

How Do You Determine The Value/Worth of A #1 Ranking?
There are many articles out there, some outdated, and I am confused as to how to determine the value/worth (in terms of estimated revenue and traffic percentage) when you achieve a #1 ranking in google. I am also looking for a way to estimate the value, say, if a lower ranked keyword jumped to a better position--what that increase might be. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Why do I get lots of traffic from a bizarre keyword?
Bit of an odd one but I've been getting a large and steady stream of traffic over the last few months from a very random keyword that according to addwords figures shows "on data". Its our second biggest referring term only beaten by our brand name. We get more traffic from this term than keywords we have invested a lot of time in that show thousands of traffic volume in addwords. When looking at behavioral data its gets odder, a bounce rate of 98.11% time on site 2 seconds and page visits 1.02. So this traffic isn't real traffic and it's not real people. So my questions are, what is it? why do we get this random traffic, has anyone els noticed things like this and is it a problem? I presume it must be something to do with some sort of spam but apart from that i'm stumped. It's just one of those things that has been bugging me so I would appreciate any help. Kind Regards Paul
