Affiliate Banner File Names?
-
Hello,
I have this certain website. Is has an affiliate/referral system. Within this system I am adding affiliate banners for our members to use in order to promote the site. They are also getting paid for each referral of course. There is a little box where they can copy and paste the code and it contains the image and a link to the home page with their referral ID.
So my question is, should I make these file names keyword rich? I am wondering if that would have any kind of SEO impact when they are linking to my website? Does it matter about the file name and ALT tag when it is on their website, but pointing to mine? Or will that only help their website? If it will not have any effect at all then I will just use the basic 300x300 type file name for them.
Thanks in advance,

Hello Gary,
You should know that using followable affiliate links is against Google's Webmaster Guidelines, as they are viewed as paid links due to the monetary relationship between merchant and affiliate.
With that said, lots of people take the chance anyway and so long as you're aware of the risk...
I do think the alt attribute text contained within an image link (as well as the title attribute in the link) is considered by Google's algorithms. It probably would make a very small difference. However, I would not overdo it by stuffing either the file name or the alt text with lots of keywords. Your brand name, or the name of a product or service would probably be OK, but highly-targeted, non-brand alt text in banner ads that link to your site, especially since a lot of banner ads are site-wide placements (i.e. potentially thousands of pages on a single domain) are not a good idea.
If it were me I would include a nofollow tag in order to avoid any potential link-based penalties in the future, in which case you needn't worry about alt attributes or filenames beyond making them useful to the visitor.

the effect would probably be minimal

Results After a Disavow File Submission
Hi, I have a client who had a range of spammy links going to their website. The links were from exact match anchor text, from duplicate content and poor quality, irrelevant domains. They also had built a number of sites and linked to my client's site from each of the footers. All the domains they owned have been redirected to the site we're working on. We also disavowed all the spammy links going to the site. This was over a month ago and rankings haven't changed and in fact, have gone down slightly. Is there any other course of action anybody could suggest or should i wait longer in the hope the disavow is still yet to be accounted for? Any help I'd really, really appreciate! Thanks

Can affiliate links benefit or hurt my seo?
I have just signed up with a company to do affiliate marketing for my site. I am now in the process of reaching out to publishers and seeing who will publish my link on their site. Is there any benefit in terms of seo for having these links, and can there be any potential downside to these links as well?

Affiliate link building
I saw articles that said affiliate link building is not good. We are a training company that offer only some training programs. My idea is get other training company to link back to us, but only if they do not offer the same training as we do. We could reward them by giving them commission if the sale happens. But to do this we will need to track the URL where the hit came in from from our website. Is this a good idea or not?

Setting up a Affiliate Linking Program
Hello all, I work for a travel booking agency that specialises in coach and minibus hire. I am currently thinking about creating a Affiliate Linking Program to create some links for the business. So this could be a suppliers page (similar to a directory page) with details of related companies to ours. We can link to there site and they can link to ours - its win-win situation for both parties. Is there a difference between a Affiliate Program for links and a business directory on your site? Has anyone done something similar to this before? What are peoples thoughts? Thanks for your help in advance - Aqib

Best SEO practice to redirect affiliate link
Hello, I got an affiliate program on my website, that redirects the affiliate link to the main site like: site.com/ads/aff_code/ -> site.com/ (The redirect is done using a 301 status code.) On the redirect process the site stores a cookie to track the affiliate sale. Will Google and others SE follow this permanent redirect, transferring the relevance of this affiliate link to my main site? In other words, if an affiliate does something wrong (like spams), does the bad reputation will be transferred to my main site? Is there a better way to do that from a SEO standpoint? Thanks,

Google Disavow File Update
Is there any specific format to update the Disavow file? Also if I submitted the file a months ago, and need to update it now... should I leave the old 'excluded domains' or should I remove them? Lets say this is what I have: How would you update it? #explanation from to Google went here... and ended here.

Advice on buying a domain name for a valuable link
There is an expired blog which scores well for a search term I'm interested in. I'd like to know if people think it's a good idea to buy it to get a link essentially? Also, if I buy the domain and the content is wiped, does anyone have any tips on what I should do in regards to content to maintain the domains value? I don't generally look to buy domains for links but on this occasion it could be worth the effort and expense.
